My Windows 8 Preview Experience

Drivers:
It is windows 7 friendly, so no issue with drivers. Nearly, all windows 7 drivers may easily install on it.

Compatibility: Not very good with old OS, win7 softwares works but some are not working, even i used compatibility option. Popular Internet security is not compatible like Kaspersky internet security, that i trust alot. However, They will work after final release.

Performance: Very Very Good, Using less ram, gaming, HD video playback awsome. Also window intalls in around 10 minutes.

Looks and Features:
The main addition is Metro (A tiled icons start which is replacement of start menu), Task Manager, New Copy and paste window and u may pause and resume your opertaion as well as u can examine the graph of writing speed of drive during opertaion.

Conclusion: I get the impression that the Windows 8 operating system is a native tablet OS and its being "ported" to desktops. What a completely retarded idea this is. The reason I love PCs is because of their complexity. I do not want my desktop dumbed down to the level of a damn smartphone. Windows 8 will be largely irrelevant to the users of traditional PC.

Is there any increase in games fps?

Care to elaborate what is dumbed down here?

I have been using it since day 1, 1st March, and didn't find any reason to get back to 7
Lolzzz, sorry if u r hearrt by my statement. you are using it from day one, dont u think this metro style is a good addition but replacing it from start menu is not a good idea. All the time u need to find left down corner for metro, right up corner for shutdown and other setting, and up right corner for tabs. it is totally designed for tablet users, now u alot depend on mouse and touchscreen. It is not easy to find ur programs. We want new window, new innovations, options but why dont u read articles on internet. Microsft is so keen to compete in tablet market and ignoring traditional users. Certainly, it has some improvements but atleast admit pros and cons are there too. :)

Memory usage is pretty low, which means increase in FPS

Nah, I am not hurt. Why would I?

Okay, replacing the Metro with start menu might not be a good idea but its not a bad one either. You see nothing is missing. Everything is still there. It' just been modified and the functionality is enhanced.
And you don't need to find left corner to switch between desktop and Metro, just press the windows key on keyboard :p
And for shutdown, use the power button on PC :p

I agree, it is primarily designed for touch devices, but what Microsoft has given us on desktop isn't bad at all either.
It will just make it more consistent thorough out the interface. Windows 8 for desktop and tablets and Windows Phone 8 for Mobiles

I am using windows 8 as only main Operating system, I tried games like Battlefield 3, COD MW3, DIRT 3,Deus Ex - Human Revolution and lot more. Not had a single issue with them, so happy gaming.

But still recommends dual booting with Windows 7

I just hope in the final release there's a way to turn off Metro UI. There's some neat stuff MS has done underneath especially with networking, file copying and redesigned task manager. Metro UI + no start menu however is just a disaster.

The guys who're using Windows 8 since a bit i.e. mary, mubadir etc. Can you tell me:

1) Any real time performance advantages?
2) Boot up time speed in comparison (claimed was 5 seconds?)
3) HDD space just for the OS being installed?
4) Any compatibility issues?

And apart from what's mentioned in the thread, what other good features that you think there are in it?

There are third party tools available to turn off Metro UI :wink2:

1) Any real time performance advantages?
Windows 8 vs Windows 7 - Speed Tests - WinMatrix

2) Boot up time speed in comparison (claimed was 5 seconds?)
Yes, its true (about 8 secs of boot up time). Because of hybrid sleep feature. (using hibernation feature with normal shutdown.)

3) HDD space just for the OS being installed?
Space requirement same as that of Windows 7

4) Any compatibility issues?
Not for me so far! All windows 7 softwares and drivers working fine.

First i am talking about 2K resolution 2048×1536, not 1080p i.e 1920x1080. It also means more responsive & plays fast. By the way i admit too that win8 is very responsive rather than win7. Browsers like IE10 and Chrome are too fast. Just to check I also converted couple of HD videos, win8 utilizing well the 4 core processors. But i m still missing some old features. This stupid metro is not as much responsive as start menu and finding program is not fast now. U every time need to find a left down corner and then this stupid metro appears and then u need to scroll. AHHHHHH, I hate it. I dont like it. Stupid Microsoft. :crying:

Why you people have no love for GPU Accelerated UI? I mean comon ... I would surely love to take some load OFF of my RAMs and CPU. :p ... its Another reason (after HTML5) for me to love Win8 MORE (sm1)

That said, there are bound to be some problems and issues in current release of Win8. I suggest waiting for Final. I am damn sure its going to be one helluva OS, which would be just as flexible as Win7, and 2x better performer in real life usage.

So in other words it needs a constant power source for hibernation to work. And is hibernation a permanent part of the shut down program?

HDD space just for the OS being installed?
Space requirement same as that of Windows 7
Not impressive, there goes 10 gigs.

Any compatibility issues?
Not for me so far! All windows 7 softwares and drivers working fine.
That's good to know.

Very true, making it perfect for Ivy Bridge notebooks. Later in the year, Windows 8 would come pre-installed in these newer laptops.

It should give you the option when you boot it from the bios. If still not then I guess that you're only left with formatting the C drive and installing the fresh Windows 8 copy in that drive only.

Score 1 for game pass. I wouldn't pay full price for this at retail either.

PC Gamer score of 58/100 for Hellblade 2??? Is it really worse than Gollum that was 64/100? Microsoft games can't even come close to high scores of Sony exclusives apparently.

About the Microsoft (and Sony) debate, I feel both have become too greedy and losing their minds over corporate greed. Personally, I will never buy any console next gen and switch to PC gaming where democracy reins.
