In addition this this question - what region of ps3 has the most readily available games here in pk? I thought the ps3 was region free - but i see different region games for sale. sorry for all the noob trivial questions.

2. All PS3 games are region free, so you can play any region game on any region PS3 without any hassle.
3. The regions come into play only when talking about Backwards Compatibility with PS1 and, if PS3 model is a fat one, PS2 games, DVD movies, Blu-ray movies and DLC (Downloadable Content)

So single layer lens can read dual layer disc such as BD of big games like GOW 3, KZ 3, FF 13. etc? I didn't find it on google that's y asking here as I guess this type of technical question haven't been asked yet @ PG.
The laser has Nothing to do with its ability to read through different layers of data. Even an 8-layer blu-ray (400gb) is compatible with ps3.
What your referring to is the DIODE in the drive.
The older(fat) PS3's have two different diodes; one reads CD/DVD media while the other specifically read BD media. This is where a lot of the DRE error codes come from as people have the symptoms of only BD media not being read properly or even recognized in the PS3 period.
The Slim PS3's use a Single Diode that carries all the functions for all disc media, but still operated in the same fashion as the dual diode assembly.

yeah got a slim...will turn on my usb powered blower on once again...stopped taking care of my ps3 a while ago
