Just so that people are aware, the Prohibition of Smoking and Protection of Non-Smokers Health Ordinance (http://www.emro.who.int/tfi/PDF/PakistanLegislation.pdf) was passed on 30, June 2003.

It is not only inconsiderate to smoke in public places, but it is also illegal. I appeal to all smokers to refrain from smoking in restaurants and other enclosed public places. It's not only detrimental to you health but also to people around you. Everyone else should be aware of their rights--it is illegal to smoke in public places and you are well within your rights to tell someone at another table to stop it. Too many restaurants allow smoking which is in fact illegal even in "designated" areas.

Please spread the awareness.

Restaurants are private property and they can enforce any dam rule they want.

And sadly restaurants in Karachi are opting to allow smoking indoors, which at times leads to fights to no end.

Smoking in public areas, well, unless and until the law enforcement gets its act together we can't do a dam thing.

You are wrong.

The ordinance declares auditorium buildings, health institutions, amusement centres, restaurants, public offices, court buildings, cinema halls, conference and seminar halls, eating houses, hotel lounges, other waiting lounges, libraries, bus-stations, sports stadiums, educational institutions and other places as public places.

Yes you can. You can tell the restaurant to stop it because allowing smoking is a against the law. You can file an FIR against it. Read the ordinance.

(i) section 5, 6 or 10 shall be punishable with fine which may extend to one thousand rupees
and in case of second or subsequent offence, shall be punishable with a fine which shall not be less than
one hundred thousand rupees; and

The sale of cigs should be banned completely, end of story! Until its done, idiots are going to smoke and in public as well, and be proud and even boast that they are breaking the law and no one is catching them. Come on, really? have the moral values gone so low...oh well...they already are...(non)Islamic republic(?) of Pak(?)istan zindabad!

I left after a hour, me and my friends were there via IBA and were supposed to have a separate area but sadly the one we had got taken over by charsis and we barely made it out in one piece from the crowd.Totally fail management that turned the concert into a fish market.

If you found out what you breath even widout the presence of smokers ... you'd wanna get into a biohazard suit.
Not everyone lives in Karachi. Whenever i go to Lahore and Karachi, i have to buy a mask because the pollution is just too strong. The air in Lahore and Karachi gives me headache specially in places with high traffic. But here in Islamabad, the air is clean but still i have seen people smoking in Restaurants and public places and it really disturbs me and pisses me off.

(To all smokers) Apni zindagi tabah karni ha to karo, hamari to jan choro <_<

How unfortunate that people still smoke when there is NO proven medical or social benefit of smoking. But i guess , this is what we call addiction and craving.

I have seen smokers go bonkers in Ramazan when they take a sip of water to break the fast and run outside to smoke. I can only pity them and feel sorry for their craving:cantspeak:

And having air pollution around is NO excuse for smoking

I understand that you have an aversion to smoking mate and I respect that, but you should respect the decision of smokers to indulge if they are not bothering those around em'. I am not condoning the act, nor am I saying that everyone should start doing it, all I am saying is that its a personal choice and that should be respected. I hate when people start with their condescending tones about how despicable smokers are. If the basis of your argument is health risks then I am sure you look down on obese people aswell. And yes, making it grow on you is bad but mate I've been smoking for two years and the Ramazan scenario you've described has never happened with me. It is all a matter of self contol. Everyone has the right to give their opinions but no one should approach the matter with a holier than thou attitude as you, yourself have adopted. Enjoy life bro, we already have so many problems plaguing our country to start pointing at such trivial matters,

smoking second hand smoke once a month for half and hour won't effect you dude... be rather worried about the pollution that our cars throw at our faces... inhaling ciggeratte smoke won't kill you even if you do it 24/7 for years and years... while a full long deep inhale of the black smoke that comes out of a passenger wagon or bus would certainly put you in the hospital... your lungs are as black as the smoker buddy... don't worry...
