@^ brother 15k riyaal or wot? and let me tell u one thing...foreman supervisors and technicians are not engineers...they are either diploma holders or btech. there is alot of diffrence b/w B.E and Btech. and i agree that pakistan's degree don't worth enough as compared to other top universities. but if u have the brain and u can use it well then degree dosen't matter. your work matters alot more than ur degree

dude honestly I dont know much about this whole Pakistani education system anyways but according to what I have heard yes engineering has no scope in Pakistan. I havent come across a single successful engineer here most of the ones I know have shifted to business. Well but thats just me

and your school has one of the best counseling in Pakistan dude .. that ought to be helpful

oo yes I do know some telecom engineers who are doing great but i dont know if it still has any scope in Pakistan or not
for instance I have a cousin who is now in PTCL but after doing his graduation from abroad he came back struggled with 50 k jobs for the first few years then directly got offered over 10 lakhs in Dubai which he accepted after a year or so he came back and is now sitting comfortably in PTCl earning over 2.5 lakh a month

though this might be because he got his degree from abroad?

Get your engineering degree (whatever degree it is b.e btech or whatever) and you will be nothing more than foreman and technician for the first 8 - 10 years of your career i bet you.

Even IT people are better than engineers in Pakistan as well as abroad. One of my friends did his 4 years Bsc from Iqra and after 2 years of struggle he is earning 45k in a software house. Well good enough. atleast he didnt have to struggle for 5 or 10 years.

@ Rafay321 : I totally agree with you.

Dude, but if engineering is your passion and you want to do it by heart then do it. You'll be good in that. My advice is to do Software Engineering.

yaar betch and B.E are much diffrent...in simple i can say...btech is like a nurse and B.E is like a doctor. and believe me an engineer never works as a forman yaar those are diploma holders not the engineers.
its like kuch logon ko keh keh k engineer bnaa detay hain (in industry coz of there experience) aur kuch logon ko engineer na kaho phir b wo engineer ee rehtay hain (coz ov degree) :D

my class fellows whe belong to gulf told me k initial pay engineer ki KSA me is no less than 5000 riyaal. even i met an engineer during hajj and he told me he was getting 5k riyaal per month as a trainee

there is no scope of telecom engg in pakistan the field is just too much staurated now but civil, mechanical and chemical arcitectures are still in great demand. Im doing industrial engineering and my lab engineer who was a fresh grad told me she was getting 25k as initial pay here in pak and his collegues who had 1.5 to 2 years experience had the salary of about 45-50k which is sufficient i guess!

^^ dude cmon 5k riyal is bullshit! I was getting 8k AED in Emirates bank in Dubai the day i finished my ACCA. I was in UAE when my results were announced. One my engineers uncle is working on 5k riyal he is 40 and he is fed up!

My Bcom pass 26 yeard old brother in UAE has been earning 6k - 9k AED!

I am telling you. Don't choose this engineering unless you are in North America OR you are ready to live the lower middle class life.

It should be either business, accountancy or IT or medical from a good university. Pakistani doctors are very well paid in the gulf and west as well.

Slightly OT: whatever happened to studying something you have a passion for, something you genuinely enjoy doing...rather than going through with your studies just so you can earn more money.

Hmm wha-? I must've dosed off... sorry.

I'm much happier studying engineering because it's something I like, as opposed to accountancy/medical/etc. I really don't give a shit about money.

So FU, I guess.

i have heard that when an engineer or doctor gets his degree he is Jack of all trades, master of none ھر فن مولا.........so u need to be master or specialist of something to get a good job.....i dont know much abt engineering fields ...but regarding universities GIKI is the best they gave jobs to their students even if they are only graduates.....

Don't give SAT 1 and 2 if you plan on studying in Pakistan. Very few universities accept SAT scores and even then you have to pay as a foreign student i.e higher fees. Just give the uni admission tests you are interested in.
As for uni's and jobs give me a pm if you are interested in some extra info.

That answers your questions. If he had done his bachelors from at least one of the top 5 engineering universities he would have gotten a much better pay.

And i pretty much agree with arsal. Not everything is this world is about money, dont ever choose a profession just because it pays more. Choose something that gives you some sort of satisfaction, because you are going to do the same thing for the rest of your life

Whatever the field is, there's ALWAYS room at the top with a damn good salary, so if you pursue a field which interests you, then you'll likely end up excelling at it and reach the top hence more money and satisfaction too.

8-9k starting with nill experience and 13-16k with 2-3 years of experience. Goes for UAE as well. However due to ecnomic problems its easier to find job in Saudi then in Bahrain or Dubai. Saudi is actually witnessing economic boom specially in Jeddah and Riyadh. Lots of jobs there.

I'm much happier studying engineering because it's something I like, as opposed to accountancy/medical/etc. I really don't give a shit about money.

All those people studying engineering please don't get upset. I have just stated the fact and what i have seen. I have worked in dubai, bahrain and saudi which makes most of the gulf in past 3 years. You people i guess have not even left your university yet. So please don't get upset because aaj ya jkal you have to face the reality.

Its simply give and take. You guys chose a low paying field out of passion and interest. Good enough you are satisfied. Laikin jab new Audi ya BMW purchase karni hogi toh shayed passion thanda par jayega aap logon ka.

I have simply stated what i have seen. App log jab audi khareeney k qabil hoge tab apki jawani zaya ho chuki hogi.

For me its both about passion and money. My dad wanted to be to do something in medical but i chose this field on my own because i liked it and also it was high paying with lots of opportunities. I was admitted ot Shiekh Zayed Uni in UAE for MBBA. I did my A level with medical and biology. I left UAE (Lived there for 20years) and came to Pakistan to peruse my career and not to put extra burden on my dad.

At 24 i have become self sufficient. The last time i took pocket money from my dad was 7 years back. During my ACCA studies i was giving tutions to Inter and B.com and earning my own money. Now during articles im being paid 12k and i maintain my own car and daily expenses. Everything i buy from my rig to my clothes to shoes is my own money. And as my articles is about to end 50k job offers are waiting for me. This is how i wanted to see myself. I did not want to be a cripple living on my dad's money. This very field has allowed me to do so. My own cousins who are even elder than me are still doing their degrees in unis and living on packet money. I have started my next international qualification which will cost me around 1.5lac rs and i will pay it from my own pocket. the money i saved during my mid east trip. This is how i planned to live my life when i was 18. Now my the time i am 30 i see myself as manager in finance or audit department of a prestegious company. I am working hard for it by going for my next qualification and not getting seduced by job offers during my training period. Still sticking to 12k till 2011 and a big jump tp UAE after that.

The reason to tell you guys all this is to make all those people at their 18 realize the importance of hard work and planning. Making the right decision is they key to good life.

So kindly dont get upset. While being in the same age group i have seen more life and interacted with more people so i talk from experience. Good bye.

just as accounting worked out for you engineering works out for others as well, its all about opportunities. I myself am an engineer and i was getting 50k at the age of 22 (benefits apart) and some of my class fellows are earning considerable more than me. Its all like you said you just need to know how to market yourself. Every field has a potential of its own whether engineering, medical, accounting, teaching, IT etc....

but like others have said that engineering has no scope in pakistan....well it has a little scope in pakistan...if you mean no job scope, thats a bit wrong; you ll find a job one way or the other in pakistan or out of pakistan. and regarding people saying that a pakistani engineering degree doesnt count in other countries, o come one people i have friends from GIKI, UET Lahore, NUST who are doing jobs abroad. The only thing is that if you want to pursue higher studies i a foreign university then you have to pass various tests and show a suitable income source etc, but all that happens in pakistan too.

Not to say that i am biased towards engineering, i have cousins doing ACCA, CA as well and they are quite successful too. Im just saying that every field has a potential of its own, you should just know how to market yourself and grab opportunities.
