Although i do know that this is not the right place to ask about all this but i'll still give it a try.

Since i gave my As-level exams this May/June and will be in my Final A-level this August (InshAllah) i'll have to decide a certian field of Engineering to opt for my University level. Now the thing i can't decide is about which SAT test to appear in as i'll be giving it in this year mid of October or so. Since i have had Engineering Subjects in my O-levels and A-levels and will be applying for an Engineering University in Pakistan and I do not plan to go abroad and study for now. Since it is quite expensive and getting a scholarship will be tough. I have asked many people about which SAT test to appear in and some of them say that if you want to apply in Engineering University's of Pakistan you must give your SAT II test. They said the SAT I test is for applying abroad and for doing BSC or BBA in Pakistan. Wether as some of them said that you must appear in both SAT I and SAT II test, which is quite difficult and scoring about 2000 above in both of them to get into a decent Engineering University.

So i need some help regarding which SAT test to appear in this year. I also need to know which Engineering field to opt for? The one's which have a higher scope for the years to come in. The one's in which students can get a decent earning job easily which i know will be quite difficult.

Please do help me out. =)

Edit: I'll be looking forward to apply in University's such as Lums, Nust, Giki, Fast etc.

I was in the same dillema as you are during the final days of my AS levels, but I finally opted for Mechanical Engineering. The thing is,it doesn't matter which engineering field you go to,Engineering does'nt have ANY scope in pakistan.Thats the sad truth my friend, and if you want to earn a decent pay in the future, you are going to have to work abroad.

Now dont get disheartened and have second thoughts about choosing engineering. It doesn't matter which field you opt for,all that matters is that you are interested in it and can do good in it.I went through a lot of options from business to accounts to civil engineering to electrical but finally I wound up on my true passion, which is mechanical engineering.

About SAT,its just an exam for earning admission in US universities.Over here,SAT is an alternative to the Uni entry exams. However keep in mind that there are limited seats for those applying on SAT basis and you have a better chance of getting in a pk university if you give the entrance examination.

And you can go abroad for bachelors if you really want,Singapore's Nanyang tech university gives subsidy to international students which makes their fees really low on the basis that they have to work in a singaporean company for 3 years once they graduate.I however, would strongly suggest you to opt for bachelors here in pk.

Anyway about the universities,it depends entirely on which field you opt for.I have been to all universities you have listed and non have failed to impress me.However each university is selective of its fields. You can only do computer and electrical engineering in LUMS,You can not do civil or aeronautical in GIKI,etc. So its up to you on what you decide.

1.dont give SATs unless you want to go to america
2.There is scope for Engg in Pakistan
3.There are many disciplines of Engg, take the ones that are most applicable, like Civil Engg, construction Engg, Electrical Engg, Chemical Engg, Mechanical
4.Chemical Engg are in great demand, especially in Textile industries and tiles
5.Civil and construction Engg are in great demand, and becuz of its specialities like geotechnical, transport and marine Engg, there is great demand for them
6.People who say theres no market in pakistan have clearly not researched enough.
7.Even if BEngg doesnt work out for ya you can always do MBA after that and get much better job than regular MBAs.

Does it have to be Engineering? Not considering Computer Science/Software Engineering?

In any case, my advice to you would be simple. Follow your passion. Do what you love doing because whatever you choose as a profession tends to be the thing you end up doing most in your life. I can't picture myself doing something I'm not passionate about for 7-9 hours a day.

Out of curiosity I'm asking, how much starting salary do you normally end up with if you've graduated in computer science from a decent uni with good credentials?

thats why i like medical profession, if you study according to the needs, medical profession can get you a job very easily. Once you have done mbbs you directly get a house job which pays you almost 18k a month.

GIKI doesn't accept SAT scores, unless you're applying as a foreigner. Just thought you should know.

As for choosing a field, just pick whatever that interests you most. If you're like me, and have no special interest in any field, then just follow your friends. Doesn't matter if you hate it, at least you'll have company. (y)

you always need to give an evaluation test in order to get admitted into a university. the evalutaion test may be
1_ the university entrance test
2_SAT (The rules about who can give SAT and available seats etc etc vary from uni to uni; do read the prospectus first)

and secondly about which engineering, choose any of your choice. what you end up doing in ur job is a totally different thing...that is an option you explore during your engineering particularly in the final year.

Yeah, and then just toil for another 10 years before you actually become a consultant :p

I really don't know why students go for ENGINEERING......the highest paid engineers i have seen is like 50k rs after 20 years of work and i can earn that much even right now at 24 years of age with 2 years of experience. I was offered 14k Saudi riyal (aka 3.25 lac PKR per month) 4-5 months back but i can't break my current training contract which stretches to 2011.

Cmon man. Engineering sucks in pak and it sucks even more abroad cuz no one recognize your degrees.

The world is watching the fake degree controversy of National assembly. Imagine what impression goes to the other countries regarding our educational system. Pak education is a failure. thooo hai!

I am in accountancy. Currently working in consultancy part of my career. An i am so damn satisfied that i chose the right path for my life. I have offers from all the top banks in Karachi. The best ones.

you know what i have seen guys at 24 or 25 dieing for 25k to 30k jobs. I mean seriously. Think big. I have even refused 50k jobs at this age.

I don't want to sound too proudy but really you need to choose the right field and must know how to market yourself.

Engineering is the last thing i would suggest to anyone.

I didnt say that they don't earn. But they start earning at a very later part of their age. It means this is a very low paying field initially. Dude i have seen all types of engineers in Saudia aka the hub of industries in middle east. i have done payroll audits of many and i know the salaries. I have audited the the biggest concrete manufacturer of middle east, 2nd largest steel company of mid east, largest fire safety manufacturer. The Managing director of the plant was being paid some 15k in all these companies. I am saying things from experience. I mean i have been inside out of 8 biggest manufacturers in the middle east. I am very keen about other professions i interacted with engineers from south africa, US, UK goras, kalas and indians as well. This was all part of my work.

Tell you something. All these people are called foreman, supervisors, technicians. The only place where engineers are truly respected and paid is North America. However you may not reach that spot with a Pakistani degree.

You reap what you sow. This is what happens when you take away choice from consumers. Even with 88% split going to developers, they can't recoup costs. Meanwhile, Helldivers 2 is a massive hit for Sony thanks in big part to Steam.
