Warren Deutrom, the Cricket Ireland chief executive, has slammed the ICC's decision to trim the next World Cup to just the ten Full Members nations, describing it as "nothing short of outrageous".
The 2015 event in Australia and New Zealand will only include the ten Test-playing nations after the ICC decided against a qualification system for the tournament, which means no chance for the likes of Ireland or Netherlands to earn a place. For 2019 there is the prospect of Associates and Affiliates finding a way back in through qualification, but today's decision has effectively frozen them out of the game's showpiece event for eight years.
The decision, while tough on all the Associate nations, is particularly hard on Ireland, who proved themselves to have been a cut above the rest of the second-tier teams during the 2011 event, with a memorable victory over England in Bangalore to add to their scalping of Pakistan on their World Cup debut in 2007. Though they still finished sixth in Group B, they were more consistently competitive than either Bangladesh or Zimbabwe, the two main beneficiaries of today's ICC's decision.
"The conclusion can only be reached that the decisions made today were based purely on the protection of the existing membership entitlements for Full Members and the commercial imperative that a ten-team event delivers nine guaranteed matches for India and England," Deutrom told ESPNcricinfo. "It's nothing short of outrageous. All of the principles by which a decision should have been made in the first instance - which is what's best for the sport and what's acting in the best interests of all 105 members - have clearly been abandoned today.

Really Feeling for Ireland .IN my opinion this is the worst thing ICC could have done .

Horrible decision. I'm completely against the idea of 'awarding' a team a 'test status cap' anyway. Nothing could be more discouraging than to say 'you're just not good enough for all forms of the game'.

I like this decision actually, It'd make for a shorter and more competitive World Cup.
We saw one of the best run chases AND one of the most memorable World Cup innings from Kevin O'Brien. Not giving them Test status is one thing but that interfering with their World Cup (ODI) chances is ridiculous. Come on.

We've champions trophy for that.
Exactly. You have teams like Kenya and Zimbabwe who have been dreadful but they get a seat in every World Cup courtesy of their "Full member" status.
Competitive teams like Ireland rightly feel angry. I'd rather have them over Kenya

@Necro........Yeah, Yeah but the rest of these Associates didn't do squat, Kenya was defeated again and again, same for Canada, the Netherlands etc, The Irish side was an exception but the ICC can either shut them all out or let em all in.The Irish will just have to wait until they achieve the test status.

In 2015 instead of boring group matches like AUS V Ken where you knew who was gonna win from the start we'll actually have more competitive matches, we'll reach the QF stage earlier and It'll be alot faster.Almost every match would be exciting and worth watching.

I do agree that this is unfair but I don't care, I'm just tired of being bored to death with boring matches.

I am strongly against it. ICC has lost it's status. Ireland needs exposure. They can play cricket. But if money and greed gets in the way, there's no stopping it. :(

Kenya isnt a test playing nation. :p

I dont think its right to give Ireland and Netherlands a test playing status yet. If you remember correctly, Kenya made it to the semi-finals of the World Cup 2003. Look how low they have fallen now. If teams are putting in consistent effort for atleast a decade, then they should be allowed.

My bad. Kenya is out as well
So I was wondering who the 10th Test playing nation is because Zim's test status was revoked by the ICC in 2006. With a little research I found out that their Test status will be restored in May 2011.

True. But as Stuge mentioned before, we have the Champions Trophy for that. It has 8 teams with the top four going on to play the semis and then a final.
Adding two more teams and giving it a World Cup name seems a bit odd. A 10 team format will be fair if Cricket starts a Football style ranking system.

i think ireland should be given test status or they will lose good players to england
we have seen lot of irish players playing in english domestic and then they opted for england if they get good cause of test status , eion morgan is a prime example
i remember Pointing once said also ireland should get test status

If Ireland beat Pakistan even once in their upcoming series, they will definitely get the test status.

Quite honestly, I wont mind if Pakistan lose. I want to see Ireland progress.
