since there are a lot of fanboys arguing over the witcher 2 , skyrim , dark souls etc i though of making a separate thread so that you can tell which RPG you guys like the mos.

for me it goes like:

1- Dragon Age : Origins (amazing experience, amazing characters , lengthy game and a great story though DA2 was a disappointment after this since this was amazing)
2- Mass Effect - (similar to origins was actually more of an RPG compared to the 2nd and 3rd games).
3- The Witcher 2 - (probably one the very few games with such an advanced and intriguing story and characters , all i wished was that the game was longer and bigger.
4- TES-V SKYRIM: the largest RPG i have ever played with a great world, but like all other TES games it had a short story and not so great characters.
5- Deus EX human revolution - (more of an action rpg but this game really surprised me , it had a great storyline but this game really needed abit more time , the visuals were not that great and most of the weapons were useless except for pistols)

NOTE: i play on PC and thats why there is no dark souls or any other RPG's you might think you be there.ALSO i have started playing RPG's recently and havent played any old ones like diablo, baldurs gate etc. might give fallout and oblivion another shot.

I have yet to find a single best RPG. You see RPG game depends upon many factors. Some have better settings, some better gameplay mechanics while others have better characterization like MASS EFFECT.

It is hard for anyone to nominate one RPG as the best.

Dark Souls, the souls series in general but since Dark Souls is the latest one and all

Played many RPGs, haven't played a single one that got me this addicted. I'm still wondering why I'm creating my 1,000,000th character so far. The great challenge, the unbelievable satisfaction when you defeat an enemy/boss, the fact that this game actually rewards you when you take the time to hone your skills, all of this might be the reason why I'm still playing it.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. I played Skyrim till Level 45, now I don't even know what to do anymore. I have the daedric armor and stuff, but I just CAN'T find quests anymore.

And Amalur is a great game with a great story (haven't ended it though, but I like the way it's going), great different side quests, great character design and of course the best combat system ever! I've been waiting for a combat system like that since forever (not talking about God of War).

Haven't played Witcher 2 (I hate adult themed stuff, plus I'm not a perv :p ) and I'm waiting for Dark Souls to come on PC.

Bottomline: Amalur rules!

you must be kidding !!!! the witcher 2 barely has any adult themed stuff, its just once its optional :p.on the other hand i found waaaay better than reckoning. the good thing about reckoning was its combat otherwise i didnt really like that game i just finished the storyline and was let down ... it was one of the few rpgs with an amazing combat but everything else was really really bland.

The first thing I ever heard about witcher was that it was an "Adult-themed RPG" That was way more than enough to get me away. And it wouldn't be called 'adult-themed' for only one thing. And judging by your wording about Amalur, you read the gamespot review right? But the story is still 10x better than Skyrim.
Skyrim's story logic is simply...Dragons. Bethesda simply thought up "Let's make a game about dragons and fill the story in between with fillers". Sure, it's true; Dragons are awesome.

But what was Skyrim's story?
Spoiler: show
Dragons are coming back to life because of a legendary dragon. And a legend says that only the Dragonborn can defeat Alduin.
.

Pretty generic if you ask me. Amalur has a nice art style, and better faces and each quest is different. And the worst thing ever about Skyrim is "A MILLION BUGS". Honestly, I've never seen SO many bugs in a game. Sometimes, I even doubt they even tested the game. Sure, it's a big game, but it's nothing good programming can handle.

Even a noob who doesn't have eyes for pointing out bugs in a game, can easily spot over 100 bugs easily. Like sometimes, a guard just sees you, you go into sneaking mode. And the guard is like "Where did he go?"

And the lamest (not exactly a bug), you shoot a freakin' arrow into a dude's head and he's like "Must be my imagination." -.-

And companions are lame too, they get in the way TOO much. Unless you get one who's a long ranged one.
