4K assets for games will only go out to Xbox One X owners, says Microsoft



Huge downloads should go only to those who need them






When it launches, only those who have the Xbox One X will download the assets optimizing games for its 4K capabilities. Those with a regular Xbox One won't, Microsoft said yesterday.


This is in contrast to the downloads for games on the PlayStation 4 Pro, whose optimization assets are pushed to everyone with the game, regular PS4 or Pro.
Steve Wright got confirmation from Microsoft about Xbox One X asset distribution yesterday. It's not a trivial issue. Forza Motorsport 7's Xbox One X version clocks in at a 100 GB download — meaning that getting an Xbox One X without also owning a 4K TV means giving over a significant chunk of the new console's 1 TB hard drive to assets that aren't used.
Microsoft also told Wright that it will provide developers with "tools to make downloads more efficient.

"We have made available a feature which will give [developers] significant flexibility when it comes to what gets installed on a user's console," the company told Wright. That includes language-specific assets, which can slim the size of a download. In any case, it will be up to developers to take advantage of these options.

thts good.. no need for older xbox owners to get the heavy data on there xboxs ..

they should start showing patches of older games aswell

including Sunset Overdrive to get the Hype Rolling.

In an interview conducted during E3 2017 but only published a couple days ago on The Guardian’s official site, Mike Ybarra, Xbox director of program management, shared an interesting comment on the kind of engagement they’re expecting with Xbox One X.
I always say to my game teams, ‘Look, if you provide Dolby Atmos spatial audio, high-dynamic range, 8-million pixels on the screen, people will lose track of time because they’ll be having so much fun. That immersion is really what we’re after. When we created this box it was really about immersion more than anything else we wanted to do. I mean, you played Forza Horizon 3 on Windows at 4K, and we saw those images, and those things are breathtaking. When we set out, we started talking about these effects and how they impacted us. That’s immersion; it is part of the magic of the entertainment industry that we’re in.
Head of Xbox Phil Spencer agreed with him and added:
I was on the EA stage talking to Patrick Söderlund about Madden, and one of the things he commented on was how the grass looks, and how it moves. He said if you had somebody circle 10 things on the screen that are different about running on Xbox One X, nobody would ever pick up on that, but subconsciously, as visuals get more lifelike your brain notices when stuff like that isn’t quite right. 4K can be just about the physics, maybe even just the way the trees move.

Microsoft will release a limited edition “Project Scorpio” version of the Xbox One X on Nov. 7, the company announced at Gamescom 2017 today. The hardware — an Xbox One X console and controller — will come emblazoned with the console’s codename printed in green.
The Xbox One X Project Scorpio Edition will also include a “sophisticated and dynamic graphic pattern across the exterior” that Microsoft says was inspired by the original Xbox. The package will also include an exclusive vertical stand.
“When we announced Project Scorpio last year, we were overwhelmed by the excitement from our fans,” Microsoft said in a release. “And although we revealed Project Scorpio as Xbox One X at E3 earlier this year, the codename will live on in the Scorpio Engine that powers the console, as well as in this limited edition console. We designed the Project Scorpio Edition for fans to celebrate both our heritage and the power and precision that we are bringing into our future.”
The Xbox One X Project Scorpio Edition will cost $499 — like the standard 1 TB Xbox One X — and will only be available via pre-order, Microsoft said.

so anybody preordered this ?
out of stock on amazon and that is the only website in USA that accepts Pakistani credit /debit cards .so no .i will probably wait for a Dubai version to hit markets here in Pakistan in December or maybe I will get Xbox one s version I am always sceptical of buying a new version here in Pakistan as if there is some hardware defect then your whole investment doob jati ha

Digital Foundry takes on Quantum Break, Titanfall 2, Gears of War 4, F1 2017, Shadow of War - and more.

The roll call of new games is impressive: Gears of War 4, Halo Wars 2, Titanfall 2, Quantum Break, Killer Instinct, Path of Exile, World of Tanks and F1 2017 are joined by Rise of the Tomb Raider - the same demo we played behind the scenes at Square-Enix earlier, looking even more impressive as it was running on a much higher quality display. We can also confirm that all software was indeed running on Xbox One X hardware - production units were on display, fully wired up with hot air pumping out of the rear vents, in contrast to the cold, empty shells seen at E3 on many titles, with demos hosted on PC hardware instead. Put simply, Gamescom 2017 is the real deal, our first chance to get a look at how the new console performs across a relatively wide cross-section of in-development titles.
As expected, the Coalition's Gears of War 4 conversion looks exceptionally impressive. The lack of capture opportunities means that a full breakdown of the enhancements isn't possible at this title, but even to the untrained eye, the upgrade is substantial. At the most basic level, you're getting a native 4K version of one of Xbox One's most technically accomplished, visually arresting titles, backed up the high-end texture assets previously exclusive to the PC version of the game. Texture filtering gets a big upgrade over the standard console too, with none of the improvements having any kind of noticeable hit to performance. Gears of War 4's campaign did a great job of sticking doggedly to its 30fps target on base hardware - in addition to the big visual boost, Xbox One X hands in the same performance level point-for-point, based on the three campaign levels available to play through.
Regardless, the fact is that both Rise of the Tomb Raider and F1 2017 are adopting native 4K rendering in situations where PS4 Pro is checkerboarding instead, and that's a comparison point we really didn't expect to see. After all, this represents is a 2x increase in the native rendering resolution between Xbox One X and PS4 Pro, from hardware with a 43 per cent increase in compute power and a 50 per cent uplift in memory bandwidth. However, checkerboarding can and does really work well in delivering a great image for 4K screens. It'll be an interesting exercise to see how well image quality on these existing Pro titles holds up side-by-side with the native output from the Microsoft hardware.
And it's that consistency in results - from the games we've seen thus far, at least - that is heartening. With every new PlayStation 4 Pro game that comes along, there's a sense of the unknown about what enhancements are actually going to manifest, and the extent to which an investment in a 4K screen actually pays off. Just like Sony, Microsoft has left the door open to developers to do what they want with the hardware, but certainly based on the titles we've seen so far, the delineation between the two models looks far more clear cut - Xbox One X is the console for your 4K screen, and anything else in addition to that (like Tomb Raider's multiple rendering modes) is a bonus. It's an impressive early showing then, and with over 100 games set for X enhancements, the chances are we're going to be kept really busy from November 7th onwards.
Looks like the power is being put to good use, and its clearly shaping up to be the console of choice which makes the best use of 4K displays.

Will be interested how the final image comparison between native 4K and CB 4K is like in Rise of TR and F1. RoTR will have added benefits on XB1 because they're pulling higher res textures from the PC though.

Lets see :p DF themselves have touted many times how CB 4K is near indistinguishable from native 4K. In this case, the only or bigger differences I see are if the XBX versions also come with higher resolution textures instead of just bumping up the screen resolution. XBX certainly has the memory bandwidth (12 GB vs 8 on Pro) for it.

I'm telling you the facts, not what DF will say about it :p They've also touted about "normal viewing distances" in the living room environment along with that. And we all know that chart is bullshit :p

But perhaps by this point, the game has more of a reputation as a technical benchmark - and in this respect, this first hands-on suggests that Xbox One X will indeed deliver the best console version of a particularly challenging third-party title.
Damn. Massive differences here. Even if you disregard the boost to PC levels settings, the simple native boost in resolution is pretty huge. 4KCB can't keep up at all.

I saw and got to touch X box one X, Xbox project scorpio edition and xbox minecraft edition..they looked and felt really nice

specially the minecraft one had laser etched design, while felt really unique to touch
