Hello guys!
Water at my home has developed smell and slight bitterness. I am looking to buy a water filter as currently we only boil the water.

What's your experience with filter guys? Anybody tried any domestic RO system?

Looking forward to some help!

Doesnt RO system requires specific addition of vitamins and minerals after its been treated.? Also it might be expensive for a single family to use.

I think u meant the domestic UV water filter ( the one with 3 cylindrical tanks)
Its quite old and successful technology. I have one at my home. It takes PKR: 300/month and initial investment is approx 3 to 5k
Just to make sure that it is not installed in direct sunlight.

RO is something much better technology and expensive as well
RO system complete demineralises the water. Then to enable the water for drinking purpose, minerals have to be added in specific quantities. This is somewhat very critical as minor fluctuations in minerals can be quite hazardous. Initial investment can range from 50k or more i guess

Does this 3 cylinder filter remove smell and bitter taste of water? Also, I have heard that the flow of water is extremely slow..

We have 3 cylinder filter at our home, it can remove smell and bitter taste but not completely....flow is as fast as our normal tap (10% slower may be), but it cant be called 'extremely slow' in any case
i want satisfied with it completely so i now got water service from "Nature Water"

Flow is normal. Just a bit slower than a tap water flow

Its based on 2 stages of filtration and UV light in third cylinder for killing bacteria. it doesnt remove the smell.
Now here, it depends on how bad the water is at your home? for me, this 3 cylinder thingy is working good. But for more dirty water, i dont know, How effective it would be.

The 3 stage filters have a carbon stage too, so it should remove odors I guess (not completely sure). I still have a 3 stage UV filter but its more convenient to simply buy those 20 liter bottles from the market. My family of 6 people go through four 20 liter bottles in a week or so.

The 3 stage system has 2 filters. One more fine. It also has a third activated carbon filter, to remove chemicals and smell.

Flow depends on the thickness of pipe fitting. If it is the size of the rubber pipes we use in the bathroom (shower, flush etc) then the flow will be good but if the pipes are thin then flow will be low.
