WFC had multiple playable characters in each mission of the campaign, which in turn led to co-op. this doesn't.
I agree with what you said about the gimped MP classes and Escalation, but the omission of campaign coop can't be held against FoC. This is more of a design choice, and as such, accommodating multiple playable characters in a set-piece/scenario driven environment is all the more challenging. And if you've played through the campaign, then you know that characters like Grimlock can't be accommodated in a coop environment because of how they play.
Strictly from a single-player perspective, FoC's campaign offers greater variety, more imaginative level design, improved enemy A.I., upgradable weapons, and the craziest ride through nostalgia. Judged purely from the view of a fan of the G1 series, this is Transformers heaven. It recreates scenarios that I have longed to experience in a game since the late 80s! The extent to which High Moon Studios has gone to ensure that fan-favorite characters like
Grimlock make their way into the game is highly commendable. The game is littered with references every few minutes that would easily put a smile on any ardent G1 fan's face.
WFC's single player campaign had its moments, but it was pretty generic in places. The campaign was lengthier but it also dragged on several occasions, and as a result, felt less engaging. Plus, the single-player friendly A.I was terrible. So, if you didn't have friends to play with, your fellow Autobots or Decepticons would be practically useless. The enemy A.I wasn't worth talking about either.
It even runs worse than WFC on my PS3
Played it on PC, so I wasn't aware of this. Though, generally speaking, most UE3 games don't run as well they should on the PS3.
