OK so finished watching Jessica Jones, it is a serial killer show, it is not incredibly dark either or too artistic, as there are darker/grittier/better shows out there. The action is non existent and the production has a budget of a shoe string. It is NOT a superhero show, and cannot be termed as a detective show. It is about a victim trying to find some revenge and save others victims along the way. It is about the guilt a person feels when he/she is forced to do something against his/her will. There is nothing exceptional in the series other than the concept itself, it has not been done before, when it comes to superhero shows. Although, it has been done many a times in other type of shows. It is an intriguing show and unique. I am still trying to decide how much i like the show. It will not be everyone's cup of tea and it again feels like a cop out by Netflix. They make you binge watch and that helps them reduce the budget to virtually nil. The villain was strong like DD and made the series much more interesting than what jessica brought to the table. Character development was okay but not great and luke cage was not given proper screen time, and not fully developed. The show moves at a steady pace and there were not many twists or turns. The one good thing about the show was that they didn't over do stuff and especially the dark nature of it. Sometimes the nolan-like shows/movies try to be pretentious a bit and hammer in the idea that "look at me, i am so DARK, worship me, i am so mature, i will put godfather to shame"(nolan and snyder, both do it). There was no ostentation in the show and that was the biggest charm. It is dark, slow and about guilt and it would seriously make you think how being utterly helpless, would do to you. The only things, i can think of, that would have made it better, is a slightly higher budget, to show better camera work and action(whatever there was)... and that the show should have had slightly more grit, and some characters like luke cage, a bit more developed. And they broke the mystery of the villain too soon, he should have been kept in the shadows a bit more, the man with no name/face sort of a thing. Overall a solid show, and watch it like a serial killer/rape victim show, not a super hero show. Otherwise, you might be let down in a big way.
EDIT: one thing more to add... it is a good reflection on how, even a super powered person, can be broken down by rape.
