i have bit awkward situation, my internet is working fine everything fine
i was downloading latest call of duty from ipt

i get 950kbps for like 5-10 mins then speed goes back to 1kbps

WTF is this?
anyone facing issues like that?

Override cache in utorrent settings (advanced) to 256MB or 512MB and check again.

Check the botton bar of Utorrent to see if there's something like this mentioned: "Disk Overloaded".

Your SNR Margin is shown in the next columns, separately for both downstream and upstream.

Its to be read in 0.1db i.e. 127 will be 12.7dB. Thats your actual SNR Margin.

Given the fact that you are running ADSL2+ Modulation, its very good.

So why did you lodge a complaint, again? If it was working fine ... why did you feel the need?

well its not fine at all, ever since i got the connection its been disconnecting every hour then it got worse to where when it did DC every hour the DC's would just go on for hours to the point where i couldnt do anything, then yesterday my 4mb turned into 1mb on speedtest somehow, yesterday and today, i file a complaint every single day for the past like 2 weeks and still nothings happened

From the picture you posted, look at the left side. Click "Advanced". There must be a setting there named "DSL". From there, you should tick G.DMT only, and uncheck all the others. Your connection indicates its not stable, so you should use G.DMT which will bring more stability.

Also, your upstream as shown in the picture you posted above, is less than what it should be for a 4Mbps, so thats another problem (but i believe it should be fixed with a modulation change). Let me know if it changes anything. And please ... keep posting here regularly so that we know your complaint is solved.

I currently have the Promotional 8MB package. I have a very old router, the one I got back when I first started using PTCL 4-5 years ago, so it doesn't match any of the screen shots here. The router never caused any trouble, net was working perfectly, so didn't get it changed.

So here's my problem, since the last week the net has been absolutely pathetic. I figured it was something from their end so have been lodging complains for more than a week now. When I call them they actually tell me that your internet needs some adjusting at our end but everytime they do nothing. Here's is the screen shot. Can anyone help me in understanding this? because its a lot different than the screens posted here.

Keep it at G.DMT for a day or two and monitor your Downstream SNR margin, also keep an eye on the 2nd row "Number of Synchronisations".

You're SNR margins are absolutely horrendous, you have a lot of noise in your line. You should switch to G.DMT as well and post an image of the stats again.

If you notice the screenshots posted in the Troubleshoot Guide, you'll notice that you only have to do 2 or 3 steps, and that includes clicking the "Status" and going into "ADSL Statistics". I think its enough to give a hint to people with brains :p You can improvise right?

Seeing the screenshot you have posted ...
- You are using ADSL2 Modulation. If you are on Fiber, then keep it that way. Otherwise, get it down to G.DMT. (It'll be somewhere in Advanced > DSL settings)
- Your Downstream and Upstream rates are pathetic, as well as your SNR Margin. Your Dn/Up rate shows that you are currently synced at less than 512kbps speeds. Your SNR Margin is just 5.xdB which indicates a fault in your phone line.

Kindly lodge a complaint for PSTN > Internet Problem from myPTCL portal.

Okay your problem is rather complex. If you want to get your problem solved quicker, head to your local telephone exchange (preferably, the one close to your area). Take last 2 month's phone bill with you, and meet the Broadband Manager there.

If you have a 4Mbps, show them that you are getting the bill for a 4Mbps, but not getting the speed. Show them the screenshots of your Modem's statistics page, and point out that even though your Phone Line is in perfect health, your "Line Profile or Port" is not. They'll probably reset your port from backend and your problem with be solved.

Do note that i have mentioned about your line profile also at fault here. Notice the Upstream, it should be at least 1024kbps, and Downstream should be more than 4096kbps if you want a 'healthy' 4Mbps connection. (more downstream value -- more than 4096) will make your browsing experience smoother, even when you are downloading at full speeds.

If you fail to get a proper response within one week, then you can head to your "Main Exchange" in your city ... i.e. the PTCL Headquarters, and lodge a complaint there about the staff being incooperative at your local exchange.

well I do have brains :p but the reason I didn't feel the need to post the statistics screenshot is that it is something completely different from the newer routers. Let me know what these numbers mean.... because I have no idea.

Well this is the initial impact of changing from ADSL2 to G.DMT. I will be going to the exchange tomorrow to get this sorted out.

This image above gives us a picture of your line and your DSL profile. As for exchange visit tomorrow, better bring back a lineman with you :p

I guess more then a year of no problem with the internet and having perfect connection was crossing the line. Lets hope these visits remain yearly, and NOT during call of duty season.

i had almost exactly the same problem as you. very very similar speeds it drove me crazy. In the end the solution was to move to a new optical line which required a new phone number

dude surprisingly I am doing the same thing. Actually I have done it already. I have ordered a new line and the PTCL guys have come to my place and installed the line. Although the line isn't working yet, they haven't connected it to the distribution box on the other end.

Can you tell me how long it took to actually get the line working after they had placed the wire in your home?
