InshaAllah I will be completing my O levels after May 2014. I have 1A* and 2As currently and I hope to get 5A*/As and 1B this session. Now I have to think about my A level. I have planned for Lyceum but I need confirmation of it's requirements. According to my knowledge, the student must have atleast 4-5As in their O level for an admission. The studies, I know, are good, but are there other activities? Such as bonfires, bake sales, parties, etc.?

The other option is of Nixor. The requirements as per my knowledge are pretty low, i.e atleast 4B's. I've heard that the environment isn't good at nixor but most of my friends have planned to study A level there thats why I'm a bit inclined towards it and also its closer to my home. So I need to know, is the environment actually bad or is it just a rumour?

Last but not the least, I have Beaconhouse as an option. They are providing full scholarship on 8A/A*s which I hope to achieve InshaAllah. However, I need to know about its branches which are teaching A level in Karachi. The nearest one to me is the Defence phase 6 branch, but it's inside a building unlike normal schools, i.e there isn't any ground and then students would have to sit in the classroom during the breaks between classes.

I will apply for admission in January or February 2014 InshaAllah. I'll have my O1's CIE result and my Mid years result of O2's. I also need to know the proper procedure for the admission.

I need an equal balance between studies and fun. Btw I can study quite good if the teachers are good.

Science student, as far as I know, Lyceum has about the same no. of ECA opportunities as Nixor. The result this time around was better in Lyceum as far as sciences is concerned ( not sure about commerce. )

I was in the same position as you last year. Currently, I'm in Lyceum, but I did a lot of research on all three of the schools you've mentioned.

Beaconhouse College Campus Defence:
I have a lot of friends here. Most, if not all, of them went because of the scholarship. They got 7-9 A's, so they were given a 100% scholarship. There were even a few guys who got into Lyceum and Nixor but still decided to go for Beacon. Since it's new, it has it's fair share of problems. I guess next year's results will give us a fair idea of how good the teachers there are. The campus is just one building, equipped with classrooms, a gym, labs, a rooftop canteen and (from what I've heard) they have Gloria Jeans. ECA's are there, but I've yet to hear of something really good.

Nixor College:
This really appealed to me. They'll win you over at their Public Student Orientation. It's a big campus, so they host a lot of events with ease. There are LOTS of ECAs here, but they maintain a balance. For example, you need to maintain an A in everything if you want to take part in 2 ECAs. They have other activities as well, but you should know that they're very strict about studies too. It's not the 'tafreeh' school your friends are making it out to be. They'll call you on Saturdays, late nights and even on public holidays to study. Even if city conditions are horrible, the college is open. Some of my friends there are happy, others are miserable. Depends from person to person.

Lyceum:
A very small campus, mostly overcrowded because of narrow corridors and SOME small classes. Since it doesn't have a proper ground, all sporting activities are held in other places. Other than that, there's always something going on each day: Sometimes, the school band performs during recess, other times the culinary society will be baking some stuff and selling it fresh, you'll have seminars and meetings you can attend etc. Some teachers are amazing, others are okay. No one is bad though. The atmosphere is peaceful most of the time. Oh and English General is compulsory here unless you have English Language. Nixor, on the other hand, does not provide language, but doesn't force you to take General either.

All three institutions have tution teachers btw. Lyceum has provided better results than Nixor, which has been very close. Nothing can be said about BCCD yet since it's quite new.

At the end of the day, go where you feel you'll be happy. Honestly, that's my advice.

I have friends and cousins in both Nixor and Lyceum, and both are extremely good as far as studies are concerned. You'll have more ECAs in Nixor, as well as student societies there are more active. So yeah I would advise you to go for Nixor. Its even closer to your home and your friends are going there as well.

I'm also planning to ask my dad to admit me in to Lyceum if we don't get an extension here (which is highly unlikely hopefully inshallah :] ) .My dad is planning to admit me to St' Paul English high school but after seeing the result of A'levels in the news of school around Karachi,I really preferred Lyceum .BTW Xerolt9 ,what is English General ? Is it like General Paper ? Any idea about fees ?

Fees depends on the subjects you take. Can't quote a specific amount here.

English General is what it sounds like. I don't have details because I switched it for Language on the first day. I've heard it sucks though. All the people taking it are miserable.

I totally agree with what xerolt9 has quoted.
Lyceum should be ure first priority amongst the three. U said that BCCD has no ground. Well, neither does Lyceum. Beacon takes the students to jubilee campus for sports(cricket, football, swimming etc) . If you are free between classes u can always use the facilities (gym, library, table tennis, xbox, computers etc) Another good thing about beacon is that (I can tell as I study there) you may come whenever your class begins and leave when you are done however leaving before 12 will require you to get a gate pass . This is absolutely fine with me as I can avail other time in doing other chores. Overall BCCD is good too.

Now it depends on your choice and your grades. Btw from which school are you doing your olevels?

English General? You mean GP?
If so, I'll highly suggest keeping it. As useless a subject as it may come off as, it's quite good to increase your knowledge base plus it's an easy A.

ahsan95 bro I'm currently doing my O level from The City School Darakhshan Campus. Well I guess Lyceum would be good but most of the guys who got As and A*s in my school last year, are now studying in Nixor.

One piece of advice, if it's Lyceum.

Dont give GP in your AS, I'm the only one who did that and got an A, but I'm still being forced to attend the classes. :p

You can't cheat the system, Atleast the way I tried it.

Lyceum is at the top right now among all A level institutions which has also been reconfirmed by the fact that 15 lyceumites got into AKU, the greatest number for any school in Karachi, even surpassing KGS.

BCCD has an amazing campus I'll say, it might be small but its sexy.Other than that I really don't know much about it, a lot of my friends who studied AS from Jubilee study there but failed to produce a good result.

GP is useless but it doesn't make your life miserable. If your class and teacher are cool, you'll have fun.I honestly don't get what the hype is all about.
@Xerolt9, just a word of advise.I don't know if you're aware but only 2 people last year were able to score an A in English Language in Lyceum, almost the whole language batch switched to GP this year.

GrunT: I'm aware of how difficult language is. However, the group I'm in will be giving the AS paper in A2, so I've got 2 years to prepare. Even after that, if I feel that I can't get an A, I'll drop the subject. I'll have 3 subjects remaining, and that's good enough, right?

It may win the "best visuals" category, but that's about it. A GOTY contender needs to nail all aspects (Story, Gameplay, Visuals, etc)
