I'm not sure I have a clear picture of this. Could you elaborate?
The administration wasn't so uptight back in the day. It gradually became more and more.. dictatorial and some people were quite displeased, leading to a decrease in their activity.

I guess that's evident looking at the current state of the forums even if I haven't seen what it used to be like. But the question is, why? Taking into consideration that the basic formula of the forums hasn't changed and there isn't any direct competition (none that I'm aware of, at least), it doesn't seem to explain the lack of enthusiasm.
NaNoW makes a fair point. Gaming becoming more expensive is partly responsible for this falling-off of activity.

This explains the inactivity of older members but what about the new bunch? If we're going by the law of averages, there should've been a fresh new batch of equally motivated people to replace the older ones, no?
We're talking about the older members here. The 2nd point doesn't apply to the newer batch.

The Marketplace is also a great deal responsible for the decreasing interest in discussions. A great number of users are now attracted to PG solely for the Marketplace. That wasn't true back in the day.

Lastly, my original intention when creating this thread wasn't to mention everybody that's gone now. I had only the people in mind who added value to this place and were popular and respected. It is not only the decreasing activity that I'm concerned about. I'm more concerned about the quality of discussions.

The new batch couldn't preserve that quality. It lacks maturity and imo, is intellectually second-rate compared to what we had before. Discussions, at least in the CCC are quite rare now, and when they do take off, they are usually very disappointing. While this aspect of PG has never been its strongest feature, it was noticeably better in the past.

Perhaps newer generations are getting dumber?

The dictators and all the members with less than 10 posts selling stuff in the market place, ruined PG :p When I left, PG had close to 20,000 members and there were discussions going on everywhere, now there are 4 times that number and the forums are pretty much dead.

Though I wouldn't say the younger generation is getting dumb (I'm part of that generation :p ), I guess the focus from PC gaming has moved on.

Someone quoted me. I visit the forum every now and then, things aren't just that interesting anymore.

I remember it was fall of 2011 when I stopped being really active, and some other guys like Ali Kamran told me that they wont show up after that, and so they didn't.

Was also offered a mod position by bobby, but nah, that's not for me.

The newer generation have it a little too easy, which should make them learn a lot more at a younger age, but when it comes to PCs, well then the knowledge of that era would definitely be what they would be missing out. And it's a little more than that, these days we have USB players in our rides, but I started with cassette players, then CD's, etc. So people like me have enjoyed a lot more than what these new kids ever would, as now everything, from audio to video to data storage starts and ends with the use of flash.

Not sure how many of you guys are from ISB, but there used to be a Laser Disc shop in F-7 that closed down many years back, and this was when Margalla road used to be a single road. I've had the pleasure of watching movies on LD's, VCD's and of course DVD's.

As for the older gen, well not everyone is mature, blastwave has become a dumbass when it comes to debating anything about computers, when previously, all he did was ban people on the shoutbox as his past time. I'm just too tired and old to correct his lazy ass again and again.

YESS!!! FINALLY!!

INB4 "Blastwave is ruining PG"

In other great news, we're currently celebrating 7 months without a ban in Chit Chat Cafe or Shoutbox!

i joined pg back in 09 and at that time until about mid 12 this was a good place to hang out and have fun i even joined pg meetups in my early days even though i hardly knew many people at the time but still it turned out to be fun and now as you all have pointed out the forums are a deadbeat i think it's matter of priorities and differences amongst members that lead to this day anyways i still love pg although i might not post in forums now but i do read them from time to time :D

I think all of this is easily solvable and the forums can become much more active, if the current members decide to spread the word about PakGamers and contribute quality material and threads.

A community cant thrive if all the members are not on the same page. When I was a normal member, I used to refer PakGamers to each and every single person I met.

Now, even though, we are in an age of social media, I dont understand how we have hardly 6-8/ 6-8 likes shares on our Facebook pages. Even if you dont like an article or post, share and like and spread it for the sake of PakGamers.
We have a pretty large number of people here everyday, but we are so shy in sharing PG stuff, remember my "Beti ka rishta aya hai syndrome thread I made", about the stigma of being a gamer in Pakistan.

People like @IzHee, Asadullah khan (sorry dont know PG nick, pm me :p), yasir, minion tim, etc and a few other are usually the only names which like our posts.

We have to solve our problems, no one else will come and do it for us. Instead of complaining, which I am doing aswell, we should now look for solutions.

I feel like there are only few committed souls on PakGamers, which are trying to work for a solution but alot of people are just being lazy and content. Sorry, but that's how I feel.

Another thing is, I guess alot of old members know this and new ones might not, but no member of Team PG earns or gains anything monetary by being present here.
So its not like NaNoW, Jshak, Global mods, mods are of course doing this because they get paid in gold bars and are millionaires by now and PG is a cash cow.
It is easy to complain, but very hard to deliver.

If you feel that you can contribute from a position of power, then start contributing and I will personally make you a supervisor, team ug member or mod (as per the requirement)

I try to take the initiative so many times, but I cant do it alone.

Once our front page is completely finished (which is at 98% done), we will be publishing 1 articles at least every other day. We have even said we will pay you if you make new content, only two people have honestly taken me up on that offer.
Yasir and Callofhonor

I need people who can take Community Nights and just run with it. Organize it yourself, every week. I can personally only do it for CS or Fifa, I cant do it for Dota or LOL or BF4 or whatever. I will support you with everything I can: servers, announcements, fb posts, etc.. Find players, make threads, organize with your fellow gamers. Just Do it. @DivineTerra just pmed me himself saying, I will make the Raidcall server for ts and organize that server, so we can have our community multiplayer on difference games at all times. and every weekend we have a special community game night. I thank him for that and asked him to set it up, cause thats how I envisioned this when I thought of community nights. nafu is holding a PC benchmark competition, where is his support, pc guys..I remember we had a kickass PC MOD community, with the best and sexiest cases in town belonging to us (remember Rameex)
This kinda self initiative is what is needed.

We need to honestly spread the load and promote PakGamers ourselves, instead of being nostalgic.

One more thing : PG is improving. The traffic has been on rise since last 6 months (these are stats, not what I feel ) but its not as fast as one would hope.

I would like to ask the "Old members ", how much have the personally contributed to Pakgamers, interms of content, managing threads, competitions, discussions...and I am sure they will agree that we all used to do it much more than now.

I apologize if I sound bitter, its just because I care for the community. Please take the imitative to move pg ahead and if you cant do even that then at least promote PakGamers everwhere you can (online and offline).

I am in contact with the old members of Ex Team PG. Sigh, everyone has to grow up and move on with the movement of life. This is a life cycle, very less ppl stick to a volunteering job with dedication. Some move on with the carrer, so move on with friends.

This is how we do it :)

Still I'd say PG has taken off since NaNoW became admin. Discussions have pretty much started in every sub-forum. Sometime back the Anime section and football sections pretty much died.

This thread is very Nostalgic.

PG has seen many phases.

From the days when Chandoo was a diehard PlayStation fan (and later became a Xbox one) and people like Radd, Ateeq, Sire Ahsan, DMCD, Conscript posted all the time. That was like 2007-2009.

Then came the "intellectual'" (and controversial era) of the Chit Chat Cafe with members like Sshah, Ottoman, Crow, Shyber, Benighted and others who posted a lot of quality in the CCC and had great discussions. (2009-2011?)

Honestly, I can say that I actually learned a whole lot from some members.

After 2011-12 its all a blur. Just so many new members and marketplace traffic. Old members stated to lose activity and what not.

It's just life. It seems as you get older free time seems to be limited.

Remember when pg was experimenting with new things such as chat like Facebook etc. Me giving famous friends(members) nick names. I used to call Amaga bhai, omega bhai when we always chat in mgs4 mp and Chandoo well I used to call him postmaster but when pg got famous with thousands of members all golden age members gone silent or left. Hope I can play at least one last time with all old pg members :(
