[h=2]Tekken 7's new camera feature will let both players fight on the left[/h]

The Tekken team is testing a new camera feature for the next game in the series, Tekken 7, that will introduce a seemingly small but important feature: Regardless of whether you're player one or player two, you can fight on the left-hand side of the screen. (Or the right. Your choice.)

Tekken 7 director and chief producer of the series Katsuhiro Harada showed off the new feature on Twitter today. In two-screen arcade setups for Tekken 7, players will be able to choose which side of the screen they prefer to fight on.

In most fighting games, player one defaults to the left-hand position in competitive play and in training modes. The option to choose your side could give players used to that experience a perceived advantage, or at least make them feel more comfortable fighting from the player one position.

Harada showed images of two players starting in the 1P position (and the 2P position) in a photo posted to Twitter.

Harada says the feature is being beta-tested right now — Tekken 7 has been location-tested in Japan — so it's unclear if the feature will make it into the final game. The option would obviously be limited to two-screen setups, like dual-monitor arcade machines and online matches.

Tekken 7's developer unveiled the game's latest fighter, Saudi Arabian character Shaheen, late last year. Shaheen will join newcomers Lucky Chloe, Claudio Serafino and Katarina Alves in the seventh major Tekken game. The one-on-one fighting game is being developed using Epic Games' Unreal Engine 4.

[h=2]Tekken's newest roster member is an ass-kicking grandma[/h]

The latest member of Tekken's roster is an all-new fighter — Kazumi Mishima, wife of Tekken patriarch Heihachi, seen in action above. You'll understand how this gets real complicated in a second.
Kazumi debuts in this video for the (so far) arcade-only Tekken 7 from the game's official Japanese-language channel. If Kazumi is Heihachi's wife, then she's also Kazuyo's mother (OK) and Jin Kazama's grandmother (uh, WUT). You can watch her throw down on hubby in the trailer above.

Kazumi summons a tiger when the shit goes down. Again, this is for Tekken 7, which as of now is an arcade-only release in Japan. No word if it'll ever come to North America or, if it does, to consoles, which would surely require a domestic-violence content descriptor from the ESRB.

[h=2]Tekken 7 coming to PlayStation 4 (update: with PlayStation VR support)[/h]

Tekken 7 is coming to PlayStation 4, Tekken producer Katsuhiro Harada announced at Sony's Paris Games Week press conference today. The PS4 port of the arcade fighting game will be the most content-complete version of the game, Harada said, and include content that will "please PlayStation fans."
Bandai Namco first released Tekken 7 in Japanese arcades earlier this year.

Update: Tekken 7 will include unspecified support for PlayStation VR, Sony's forthcoming virtual reality headset, on PS4, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe CEO Jim Ryan announced at today's event. Harada has some experience working with PlayStation VR; he's directing Summer Lesson, a virtual reality tech demo for PS4 in which players interact with and tutor Japanese school girls

Tekken 7's forthcoming arcade update will star Akuma from the Street Fighter series, according to a trailer that just debuted at the finals of The King of Iron Fist 2015 tournament.
Akuma is revealed as the mysterious figure whom Kazumi beseeched in an earlier trailer for the game, whose update is titled Fated Retribution. Akuma answers Kazumi's prayers and unleashes his classic move set on her husband, the series' central character Heihachi Mishima.

This is intriguing because Akuma, so far anyway, isn't on the roster for Street Fighter 5, which launches Feb. 16 on PlayStation 4 and Windows PC.
Tekken 7: Fated Retribution does not yet have a launch date but it will come to arcades, where Tekken 7 is currently only available (and only in Japan).

[h=2]Tekken 7: Fated Retribution is bringing back Nina[/h][h=3]The Irish assassin returns[/h]

Nina Williams, who's been part of the Tekken series since 1994, is returning to the ring in Tekken 7: Fated Retribution, Bandai Namco's update to the arcade fighting game. The Tekken team revealed Nina's return last night alongside the Evo 2016 tournament game lineup announcement.
Tekken 7: Fated Retribution's version of Nina sees her wearing a bloodied bride's dress and packing some serious heat in her garter. You can see Nina beating up Brian Fury in her gameplay debut trailer above.

Nina will join guest character Akuma from Capcom's Street Fighter franchise in Fated Retribution. Tekken 7 is coming to PlayStation 4 sometime this year.
Here's a closer look at Nina as she appears in Tekken 7: Fated Retribution.

[h=2]Tekken 7 coming to PS4, PC and Xbox One in 2017 (update)[/h][h=3]With an all-new story mode, too[/h]

Bandai Namco's latest entry in the Tekken series is coming to Xbox One, Microsoft confirmed at its pre-E3 media briefing today. Tekken 7 is expected to hit the platform in "early 2017." The game is also bound for PlayStation 4 and Windows PC, Bandai Namco later confirmed.
Producer Katsuhiro Harada also announced that Tekken 7 will get an all-new story mode that transitions seamlessly between cinematics and gameplay. Today's trailer for Tekken 7 shows Heihachi Mishima battling Street Fighter mainstay Akuma — who was added in the arcade version of Tekken 7: Fated Retribution.

Harada also announced that Bandai Namco will be giving Xbox One owners a free copy of Tekken Tag Tournament 2 during E3 week, which is supported through Xbox 360 backward compatibility.
Update: After the Xbox pre-E3 media briefing, Bandai Namco confirmed that Tekken 7 is also coming to PS4 and PC. This story has been updated to reflect those platforms.

[h=2]Tekken 7: Fated Retribution brings back Bob, adds Master Raven[/h][h=3]One returning fighter, one (sort of) totally new[/h]

https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=ejiwyTOGmgk

Tekken producer Katsuhiro Harada announced two additional characters for Tekken 7: Fated Retribution at Evo 2016 today: Bob and Master Raven.
Bob is a returning character, having first appeared in Tekken 6. He later appeared in the follow-up, Bloodline Retribution, as well as Tekken 3D Prime, Tekken Tag Tournament 2 and Street Fighter X Tekken.

Master Raven, below, appears to be a new character, though Tekken already has a character named simply Raven. It's not yet clear what the relationship between the two fighters is. Raven is not currently confirmed for the Tekken 7 roster.
Tekken 7 will be released in 2017 on PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One.

[h=2]Tekken 7 welcomes Lee Chaolan, young Kazuya to the fight[/h][h=3]More details on the fighting game’s story mode[/h]

Tekken 7 is adding Lee Chaolan (and his alter ego Violet) to the fighting game’s roster, Bandai Namco announced at Gamescom today.
Lee will play into Tekken 7’s story mode, as he was raised alongside young Kazuya Mishima by Heihachi. Based on new screens released today, Tekken 7’s story will also feature a very young ‘Boy Kazuya’ in training battles with his father.

Whil the main story mode will focus on the Mishima clan, Bandai Namco highlighted another central plot point: Claudio Serafino and his group of exorcists. Here’s Claudio’s synopsis:
The Archers of Sirius are a group of exorcists who have been banishing supernatural entities from the world since ancient times. A highly secretive organization, its existence is unknown to the general public. Although it is unknown how their existence was subsequently revealed, the Archers of Sirius were suddenly approached by the Mishima Zaibatsu to join their conglomerate. The Archers of Sirius naturally refused but this did not stop the persistent pressure from the Mishima Zaibatsu and eventually the news of their unrelenting harassment reached the de facto leader of the Archers of Sirius, Claudio Serafino. Determined to uncover the motives behind the Mishima Zaibatsu’s aggressive recruitment tactics, Claudio begins to investigate the powerful conglomerate.
Tekken 7 is coming to PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One in 2017. For a look at the game's new characters

[h=2]Tekken 7 producer slams ‘ill-informed’ critics[/h][h=3]Katsuhiro Harada says cultural differences ought to be respected[/h]

Tekken 7 producer and director Katsuhiro Harada has hit out at "ill-informed" criticisms of his character designs, especially those that feature scantily clad young women.
In an interview with Eurogamer, the outspoken game creator said that his critics failed to appreciate cultural differences. He said that depictions of women in swimsuits are no different to dressing up for holidays.

"The swimsuits was a good example," he said. "People who don't even play the game, they maybe just hear that there are swimsuits in it and then they say, 'Woah, you have these girls in sexy swimwear, what's wrong with you? You're such male chauvinists etc.'

"But, what they don't know is that it started off in the arcade and it's a season line, like you do for Christmas, Halloween or whatever. And it's not just the women. Robots have them, Kuma, Panda, the male characters have swimwear. It's not like we're trying to sexualize the female characters at all. But they don't go and look for that info before they criticise. So, that is pretty frustrating."
Harada faced criticism back in 2014 for the reveal of a character called Lucky Chloe, a cat girl-style J-pop fan who wears lingerie and a tutu. Following online disapproval, he threatened to restrict the character to Asian and European markets, a threat that was later explained away as "trolling" by a teammate.
More recently, Harada engaged a tweet thread in which a fan asked if swimwear characters would be appearing in the West. He joked that the fan should "ask your country's SJWs" later adding that the tweet was "not for females." The original tweet was later deleted.

Games from East Asia sometimes feature depictions of women that attract accusations of sexism. In the last few years, games like Dead or Alive Xtreme 3, Street Fighter 5, Bravely Default, Dragon's Crown and Final Fantasy 15 have been criticized for sexualized portrayals of women characters.

"One thing that's perhaps scary about some of these ill-informed criticisms is there's a character called Ganryu," added Harada. "He's a Sumo wrestler. But to someone who doesn't know Sumo, they might just say, 'there's a guy in his underwear, that's inappropriate.' But it's a very important part of Japanese culture. Without knowing that, to so easily make criticisms, is maybe a dangerous direction."
He said that changes to individual games would "depend on the country." A spokesperson for publisher Namco Bandai told Polygon today that there is "no official word" on the status of swimwear characters in the respective U.S. and Japanese console releases of the game, which has already launched in Japanese arcades.
Tekken 7 will be released on PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One next year. You can read all Polygon’s Tekken 7 coverage here.

[h=1]Watch two bears beat the crap out of each other in Tekken 7[/h]
[h=2]Kuma and Panda join the roster[/h]

Tekken 7 – Kuma & Panda Reveal Trailer | XB1, PS4, Steam - YouTube

Tekken 7 has confirmed that Kuma and his unrequited crush, Panda, will be part of the roster on Tekken 7 when it makes its console debut next year.
The announcement came at the King of Iron Fist 2016 Grand Finals in Tokyo last night. Producer Katsuhiro Harada said that the two characters will be distinct, not just a palette swap, with their own move sets and Rage Arts.
The trailer showcases what he’s talking about. Dig Kuma’s home-run derby with a giant salmon. And the bat flip! Or, well, a fish flip. Panda’s volleyball setup and spike looks like a crowd-pleaser, too.
Additionally, Harada said Tekken 7 will introduce an online tournament mode where competitors can participate in bracketed competitions, with single and double-elimination options available.

You reap what you sow. This is what happens when you take away choice from consumers. Even with 88% split going to developers, they can't recoup costs. Meanwhile, Helldivers 2 is a massive hit for Sony thanks in big part to Steam.
