Karachi can be bad at times, but it's a great city. You have to come and experience the lifestyle here yourself then you'll know what media portrays and how it actually is!

Don't come to Karachi, we hang outsiders from the pedestrian bridges. We have so many of them here, no body uses them for the intended purpose so we hang outsiders from it instead.

O boy! An Outsider! Let me know where you're staying so I could come up sneaking with my secret gang and hang you over the Pedestrian bridge xD

On a serious note, get some place near Allah Wali Chowrangi, Bahadurabad side. 10min drive to nursery, but you'll get the residence there you're looking for. As someone else said, Automarket has ALOT of flats built there. You'll get one there easily.

  • Dont go out past 10pm, to be on a safer side.
  • If you find a hut in the middle of nowhere saying "FREE HUGS", don't go inside.
  • Don't tell anyone that you're from Islamabad.
  • If you're traveling through buses, stay attentive since the people there are trying to reach your ALL kind of goods.

try to get your own transport like bike or a small car because Rikshaw and Taxi fares are relatively high as compared to Islamabad. A single one side journey can easily cost you 200-250 Rs. so 400-500/day and again read my above point. Roads will be emptied at once if sitaution become worse.
Wait what? RICKSHAW and taxi fares are higher as compared to Islamabad? Rickshaws don't even exist in Islamabad cuz apparently they're not k3wl enough, and public buses only run on very specific routes and there are very few of them to begin with. That basically results in taxi drivers demanding Rs.200 for a hop into the next sector, whereas for that same amount you can travel across half of Karachi in a rickshaw. Feel free to hate your in-laws, but at least don't misinform and scare the new guy for no good reason. Karachi (and pretty much every other city in Pakistan), have much better/cheaper public transport services than the capital.

@DevilMind: I'd recommend PECHS block 2. It's very near to nursery plus there are a lot of small apartment blocks over there which aren't that expensive either. If you manage to get residence in that area I don't think you'll need your own car at all because you'll manage to get to your work place in a rickshaw in probably around Rs.50. Furthermore many of the huge commercial areas are practically walking distance so won't need to go far for buying stuff, recreation etc. And even if you do, Sharah-e-Faisal is right next to it so you can catch a bus going anywhere.

everyone knows Rikshaw doesnot exist in Islamabad but in its twin city Rawalpindi they exists. i am not a burger bacha (a grown up man) but still Rikshaws are dimagh ki Dahi a serious enviromental pollution vehicle. last year going from Mehmoodabad to Naval Colony in Dalmia taxi wala asking me 350 Rs on the other hand rikshaw wala was asking 200(he might have judged that i am not local so start looting me). may be this year taxi fares came down :looking:

where i said that i hate my inlaws (the karachi walay)?

no area is safe in Pakistan....

it is totally wrong that outsiders are shot it is not Quetta but get ready to be humiliated becuase there you will be treated as a Punjabi Pando even if you tell them that you are from Islamabad still they will say that you r from Punjab (serious bullshit from Karachi).

say goodbye to your refined urdu. start repeating words like Ji Boss, Beta, Ch*tia, Bh*sri Ke and Bh*rway because you will be hearing them and after sometime will be using them to. you can take it as a TOKL (Test of Karachi Language) preparation .

Make some Shalwar Qameez having pocket in Shalwar (if you wear shalwar qameez frequently) in which you will be putting your precious ''Mehnga wala' mobile and some money. buy a used nokia 1100 or any other cheap mobile so that you can give it to the Bhai jaan who is looting you.

if you r a ponder then you will be disappointed becuase most of the girls will be roamig in Abaya not like they are religious but becuase
1. it is a fashion in Karachi
2. most of these girls have nothing better to wear to go out so they take Abaya to hide their clothes.
3. if you want quality phondi then you can visit markets of DHA and clifton (very rare abayas). Sea side is a very good phondi point becuase there will be no Abayas. you will see lots of drenched curves there. (karachi walo tell some good points too)

start loving Altaf Bhai and never mess with the Chelas of him.

on the serious note it would be really better for you if you can get a flat near your working place becuase there is no surety that the day will be peaceful or not. situation can be changed at any instance. so if you get caught is such situation you can get back to your flat easily.

these experiences are from a man (unfortunately me) who has susral in Karachi so visit to Karachi every year is a must.

(Karachi walo dont get offended from my post and take it lightly)
common bro seriously , i dont see girls in abayas or scarfs in KHI , where u went to some madarsaa or some thing ,
there are many Anti MQM people here as well thing is never discuss women , religion or politics in public .

2ndly , there are tons of punjabis pathans and Siraki people living here , we find punjabi accent common it doesnt makes u paindoo in KHI unless ur visiting areas like Liaquata baad or areas which are full of urdu speaking only .

as for OP :
dude i dont know weather u will find flat of single bedroom easily and at good place , cause mostly single bedroom flats will be low class with water problems and cleanness also people living in such kind of flats are definitely not the ones to interact cause of certain IQ level and political affiliation etc .

as far transport its getting worse cause of CNG stuff , Rikshaw and taxis charge high to when CNG is shut you will get problem of Public transport at early morning cause of rush and people heading towards office but if you travel around 11 am morning then there wont be any problem , get a Bike it will be better for u .

Dont use ur expensive mobile in public , better to keep some q mobile sasta smartphone or some nokia old phone in public , and that being said mobiles are getting snatched even in Lahore now and in Pindhi .

None taken. Sadly you know nothing, like literally nothing about karachi. And girls in abayas? You are kidding, right? RIGHT?

AoA,
i'll be moving to Karachi, which area is SAFE? i have never been to Karachi before.
i'm from Islamabad will be moving to Karachi soon for work,

the place i might be working is at NURSERY. if i quite that job for any reason then i'll be working in DHA or Clifton or PECHS.
can any one Point on Google Maps that where is this "Nursery" located? because Google maps shows 16 different Nurseries in Karachi.

i want a single bedroom apartment at good price and safe location, my preference is Nursery or very close location to it. (budget for apartment less than Rs 15,000 per month)
i'll be traveling on Taxi, Rakshaw or local transport. No Bike or No Car for me in Karachi.
i have heard from many people especially who are from Karachi saying, "Outsiders in Karachi are not accepted, you will face racism and might he shot for no reason..."
2 people i knew were shot by unknown persons, 3rd my best friend's leg was fractured by MQM with steel pipe rod 4 years ago in torture cell...well they didn't killed him though.
Bro its not like that in Karachi as u stated :p its a free city bro and target killing is like apni dushmani pe log marte hain no innocent people got shot without any reason :p and u can get a flat at PECHS , SHARA-e-Faisal would be good for u and u can get a flat there easily .. Dont worry its a free city bro we travel a lot here not to worry for timings but dont travel locally its not good here .. Be safe :) tc

15,000 is sufficient for a Bachelors pad anywhere. Even Clifton/Defence, where you will find one the most easiest. Other places dont really welcome bachelors.

Karachi is safe. Those who get in trouble with parties are those who get into shit in the first place. Mess with fire, you will get burned.

1. well mostly i'll be returning 10pm or 2am from work (most of the times its 20-24hrs shift if deadline is near)
2. that i would never do in any-other city as-well.
3. i don't have Karachi urdu accent, so people can guess im not from Karachi. But i used to do funny character skit of "Abdul Pan wala from Karachi" i don't know people in Karachi will take that as serious accent or funny or offensive. Because it worked great in Lahore/Rawalpindi/Islamabad :wink2: and replacing words KIYA to KARA etc.
4. i can travel through buses and vans. no issue there.

Public transport at those wee hours is rare, esp buses and all. Taxis n Rikshas you will find.

Your actual best bet is to consult your workplace on transport issues.

Nursery/PECHS side actually has bachelor pads but not Allah Wali Chowrangi side. Also look around DHA Phase 2.

You have literally NO need for racism issues. We have so many type of people even in Karachi that there isnt one 'majority'.

Buses stop after 10pm. Bike is your only reasonable option.

As Sire suggested, look for Akhtar Colony (Opp phase 2), you can get one flat there easily. But then again. A huge distance of 30mins.

Sire tariq road me bachelor flat mil jaenge.. There are ALOT of flats there jo khaali pare hue hain.. Araam se milen ge

My friend got a place for 7k/month in Clifton (1 bedroom + 1 bath). Another friend is paying 15k for 2 bed + 2 bath in DHA Phase 5. What world do you people live in?

PECHS is probably one of the more expensive areas you'll come across, second to DHA phase 7/8.

I have nothing of value to contribute except that all your estimates are off, and Karachi is not that dangerous.
