Nah, I got it before mission 6. Did lots of side ops and got R&D and Base Dev platforms up.
Same, haven't started mission six yet and have already given the order for two expansions.

- - - Updated - - -

I have done three missions excluding prologue, I am busy doing side ops, how many missions I need to do before based expansion is available?

Well check and see if you don't already have the option for it. If not, I think you get it after mission four. After that, you'll just have to gather enough resources to order one.

I can second you on that.... It takes quite some time planning on how to go about a certain section if you need a good rank... I usually restart missions again and again just to get a better rank until right at the very last section of a mission i get detected by an enemy and i say fuck it lets just get this over with.
Yeah, some times my patience wear thin too and I just go with it. I always try or atleast plan to do a full sneak/stealth playthrough of main missions but usually get spotted in some part. Not that easy, especially in the day.
Compared to this, Peace Walker was a peace of cake. :p

- The story is pretty much non-existent for the most part. Cutscenes are very scarce, and this bothered me because I was a huge fan of the cutscenes in the previous MGS games. I love a good story, and Phantom Pain failed to deliver. Yes, I know the cassettes have a lot of story content, but it got really boring listening to the tapes after the first hour. You could argue that I can listen to the tapes while performing missions, but that's easier said than done. While I was listening to the tape, enemy chatter would break out, or Kaz would start giving me mission information or something else would just block the sound of the tape. Also, I prefer a good cutscene over audio dialogue.
Well, this is a big bummer then because just like you, I also love the cutscenes of MGS games. I hope I don't feel them being that scarce. :p

By the way, how much time did it took you to beat it?

Thankfully that's not the case in TPP. Though, disabling Reflex mode nets you an extra 10k points. If you're going for a stealth run, you're better off keeping it disabled.
Honestly Reflex barely causes a dent for S rank. What matters most if that we don't cause alert, as it causes the most damage overall.

I easily managed to get S rank in 3 missions with Reflex whereas I was struggling with B/C without Reflex and getting caught.

Talking about side ops, how many of you guys finished the "wandering motherbase staff" or something like that side op? Where you have to capture this drunk or whatever guy... that one was crazy.
He hits like a bastard. I ran up to him for CQC and he punched me so hard Snake's eyes rolled up. I actually got a prompt to open his eyes. Stealth and tranq to the head was the solution. Bodyshots didn't work for me.

to be honest the only reason why i always do come back to MGS games is because of the story and the characters that inhabit it.. :p if the plot aint there (neither is David Hayter(just sayin xD)) then this will be a really big disappointment for me.....i hope i dont find it that much lacking though...

Is Reflex that thingy that slows down time and allows you to headshot enemies? Can't believe anybody would play and enjoy the game with that feature enabled.

The game is designed to be played using it, because of how the alert system works in this game. If you are aiming for S-Rank, I consider it essential because there is almost no way to remove the alert this time around.

Of course, you can just ignore the rank and play without Reflex too, and there is nothing wrong with it. I played the first 10 missions without reflex and realized that it actually made the game harder because a single enemy somehow alerts the whole base/camp and this alert then never gets removed no matter where you hide. This potentially messes up the ranking, and by a lot.

If you are even more of a pussy, you can use the chicken hat :p. I never tried it but enemies won't detect you atleast 3 times if you have equipped the chicken hat.

I disabled Reflex Mode as soon as I started the game. It makes the game wayyyyy too easy.

You made the game hard yourself and then were crying about the end missions being too difficult :fp2:
The end missions have reflex mode disabled by default LOL
I was talking about the missions that they ask you to repeat. Those are either EXTREME or TOTAL STEALTH missions. They have both reflex and chicken hat disabled. The rest of the game was pretty easy.

I might have to YouTube the ending like you did then :p

I do know the whole story but haven't seen the cutscenes etc.

Abuse checkpoints ??? How does that work ? I thought restarting from checkpoints limits your rank to an A.
No, it won't limit the rank. If you call for support that limits the rank, or if you use the chiken hat, it also limits the rank.

Checkpoints never limit rank. CerebralTiger can also attest to it.

Just got done with the game. And by 'done', I mean I reached Mission 42, got really frustrated with the game to the point that I didn't feel motivated to play anymore, and then watched the True Ending on YouTube.

The first 20 hours of the game were immensely fun. I could understand why it was awarded a 10/10 by so many reviewers. However, as I approached the end of the game, I began to feel a little disappointed. And once I was done with the first ending, it all went downhill.

Don't get me wrong, MGS: Phantom Pain is a great game; it's just not a good Metal Gear game. I loved the gameplay, even thought it was near-perfect, loved the graphics and was blown away the first 20 hours. Unfortunately, I have a lot of problems with it:

- I hate having to see the intro and outro credits each time I go for a mission. The intro credits even reveal the cast, which can sometimes be a spoiler. For example, there was a mission that appeared normal, but apparently the Skulls, SkullFace and Sahelanthropus made an appearance. I saw this coming because the intro credits told me.
- I hate having to watch Snake get out of the chopper and then back into it for each mission. I just completed a Side Op a few hours ago, that took me literally 30 seconds (had to extract a container). So the mission itself took 30 seconds, but I still had to watch the whole chopper sequence (x2).
- What is up with having to repeat old missions on EXTREME or TOTAL STEALTH modes to unlock the ending? That's utter bullshit if you ask me. I expect such re-hashing from cheap second-rate games, not MGS. And speaking of rehashing, lots of missions/side ops took place in the same locations. I didn't even have to think while playing some of the later missions because I knew all the routes.
- Afghanistan is very dull to watch. I wish there had been a more varied palette. Sure it's large and fun, but something a little better on the eyes would've been nice.
- Quiet is way too sexualized. I didn't have a problem with what she was wearing, but the whole zooming in on her breasts and butt during every cutscene that features her is sorta weird. Also, it's kind of annoying how Snake and Quiet are the two characters I'm interested in, and Kojima decided they shouldn't talk. Nice move.
- The game's presentation isn't as good as the previous MGS games. Remember those split screen cutscenes in MGS 4? Or Heaven's Divide playing while you fought a Metal Gear? Or even climbing that ladder while Snake Eater plays in the background? There was nothing 'epic' in this game, except maybe the prologue (which was already ruined by trailers). Some individual missions come close, and you feel like a badass when you complete them, but that's something else. Doesn't really add to the presentation.

I remember having a few more problems with the game, but they aren't coming to mind right now. I'll update when they do.

I'd give this game an 8.5/10, MAYBE a 9 if I'm feeling generous - and this is JUST because of the gameplay and graphics. It's a great game, just not a good MGS game.

MGS 1 > MGS 4=MGS3 > MGS2 = MGS 5
Although I'm loving the game at the moment but I completely agree to majority of the aforementioned points......

Woah man CerebralTiger going in hot man! Thats some achievement. My worst mission was the mission where you have to take out those tanks, it all goes fine up till the point where you have to extract the Colonel and then taking out the tanks without raising alerts is a bit of a hard call. It was like 5am in the morning (IRL) and I called in a rocket launcher and from there went total rambo on those tanks to end the mission. Anyother tips to take'em out quietly?

So I have no complains with the game, its definitely not the old school MGS we are used to playing, its way more different but with the same roots. Kojima here wanted to evole the game with the current trends in gaming and he did fairly well, kodus to him for trying something new.

It's immensely fun to play there is no doubt about that, you load up a side op for a prisoner extraction find out its a C ranking fellow and you spot a few B ranked guys patrolling in the most sensitive of areas, now thats where the fun starts.

What I miss here from the old games is the response CP gets from HQ its not as aggressive as it was in the previous games, you lure one enemy and he contacts CP/HQ that hes gonna check the strange noise he just heard, CP acknowledges... He comes in you choke him out ... And no response from CP is raised to check on that soldier. Previously it wasn't like that, if the soldier didn't respond they'd send teams to check on his last position. Maybe its the way the games made, you can't really send packs of soldiers to check at every checkpost.. Nonetheless the AI is still very commendable you just can't hide from them after an alert has been raised.

My playstyle has been really really slow, I have found myself listening to songs off the iDriod scouting every soldier and radars and communication equipment which I destroy first almost in every mission I try and sabotage their comms equipment, its kinda fun to trap them without any comms.

Its has become an addiction, I am glad that theres lot more to play here.

About S Ranking missions, it think its the total time you take and yes ofcourse no alerts.

For the reflex mode, I'd say its a decent addition I mean it would get frustrating to get spotted from a corner and ruining your whole run. To be honest this goes against the game philosophy of TPP we not infiltrating someones secret base, its different alltogather from the previous entries.

I'm currently at 36, and they're throwing 'total stealth' missions :(
If you get spotted, mission over instantly and you got no reflex.

@Chandoo ....... DOes the story pick up the pace at some point? that's my biggest complaint with the game so far, the story moves way too slow, or maybe it's just that there's not that much of it there.

There isn't much of it there.
Chandoo: I got fed up with the total stealth missions, so I just used an air strike to destroy the anti air radar and then had my chopper kill everyone in sight. Queit helped too, while I just smoked my cigar and listened to Aha's "Take on Me". That was epic. No one can spot me if they're dead :)
