My system is heavily overclocked. Then the resolution comes into the equation as well. The APEX PhysX take a huge hit on performance. Having a dedicated card would no doubt boost the performance alot.

Guy`s I`m facing an annoying problem. There`s a watermark "Physx > CPU" on the top right side of the screen the entire time. Any tips on how to remove it?
On a side note: Physx is supposed to be calculated by the GPU. Why is it showing the above mentioned text? :S

^Used to happen with me too. And strangely, it showed up on Mass Effect 2 recently. But I updated once the new drivers came out and I don't see it anymore.

Yeah it started with ME2 for me as well. I found the workaround and it isn`t displaying now.

But it should show Physx>GPU. A guy at 2k forums posted this http://forums.2kgames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=79364 but it isn`t changing from CPU to GPU for me.
I`m encountering frame rate problems Any ideas why Physx is being run through my CPU? :S

damn u nvidia!! my 5850 feels totally worthless now... any advice ppl?? will the ps3 version have physx n wat abt the graphics?? will the decrease n risk of "failing" be worth physx in this game??

well same here so i am adding 9800gt for dedicated physics - and 2 - 5750 crossfire for main gpu punch ..no idea about the performance untill the demo is released .

Nvidia guys... which driver are you people using.. ?

I have heard the 257.xx one isnt stable and can cause fan problems.. Im am using 197.45 on a gts 250.. is it fine ? or should I change it ?

Played the Demo, the game is awesome, visuals are good, excellent voice recording, excellent soundtrack, looks better than GTA4 to me...
I was getting constant 60fps @ 1440x900, everything high, AA on and Physics off...

Damn it! I'll have to do without Physx with this one. Fps drops from 50 to 20 once I activate Physx (Med):crying:
It`s a shame considering I own an Nvidia card. The requirements were true after all.

I`m starting to sound like muhammadbt but I`m facing another problem and it`s quite severe. I keep getting flickering black bands on the screen and the situation gets worse once I activate AA. Game is literally unplayable when it happens (which is all the time).
What could be the problem? And is there any authentic solution to this? I faced the exact problem in "Saboteur".

Go to the nvidia control panel and force physx to be calculated using your GPU.

Tried it.

Seems good enough. The game doesn't look as good once you get in a car. I mean, jagged edges. Also, my car had a weird jagged line on the trunk.

I'm getting 35-40 fps with everything max (APEX off) @ 1680x1050.
Anti-aliasing is on, AF = 16x.

The game has another issue where it doesn't restore your PC's default brightness once you exit it. Might scare some people :tv: A restart solves the problem. I'm sure launching and exiting the game would do it too but I haven't tried.

^^I tried that trick but it didn`t work. I had to uninstall and reinstall Physx while keeping this option selected as my GPU. It changed, yes, but all I got was a gain of 5fps or so. I`ve decided to go without Physx now. Smooth gameplay matters the most

I'm going to try and use the last physx drivers to see if it helps in performance. Not the ones that came out with the game. I'll report back here.

A few updates. Don't rely too much on the benchmark. Its non-stop heavy combat only. While the benchmark gave me average of 25fps, at the same settings throughout the demo, the gameplay was far more smoother. FRAPs benchmarking gave me avg. 45fps with APEX physX on HIGH everything else max.

Try this...
1- Uninstall PhysX from Control Panel.
2- Go to your Steam directory of the Mafia II Demo.
3- Run the PhysX file in the folder named '3rd'.
4- Restart system and then run the game.

Steam probably does not initialize physX driver properly so you may have to do the above method. I gained roughly 8-10fps by doing this. And for some reason the performance was smoother on HIGH than Medium APEX PhysX. The effects on the clothes esp look magnificent.

AA option is only available as ON or OFF. Forcing it didn't seem to make any difference.

Everything maxed out... AA/AF, Ambient Occulsion etc etc, APEX at HIGH...1680x1050, average FPS in-game is ~40-45FPS at my end.

Thanks. Will check it out. Looking at the files myself I thought about this tweak. Its basically removing cloth simulation for NPCs, and keeping it for the main character only. Neat trick.
