I Love the Idea of sharing and Learning from each other. Count me it!

I am a Programmer and I day dream every day for my next Indie project (Yep! I have completed 1 small project MinesXP). offcourse I am Held back by No. of reasons like My Day Job, My Programmers Art, No 3d Assests, No Sound/Music and Learning curve of New technologies like I am learing an OpenSource Scene Engine "GLScene" and ODE Physics API these day. I can't just buy a book on these and be a master in a week. I have to learn from other ppl's Source Code and that also without many Comments. Having a community of like minded ppl will guide us in right direction and we can learn from each other.

As for Rapchicks Comment that we shd work on another FPS. I don't think so! We better just buy Gears Of War PC, UT 3 or Crysis and Start Modding in Unreal Editor3 or CryEngine2. That has much greater chance of success. BUT there ain't much in that for Programmers (even scripting in UE3 is Visual Flow Chart Based for noobs).

I am more interested in indie scene. It requires less resources and Tech Level. Just a sweet inovative idea. For example take a look at Games by BigFishGames/PopCap. I doubt any Programmer/Artist here would say "I can't make this!" Sure We can! AND WE SHOULD. There are less risks involved in doing such 6 Month Experimental projects than doing 2-3 yr projects that may be will rivial Unreal Tournament 4 "May be Han!! ". But @Rapchick ur a Pro Programmer Do help these guys Out!

So I m In, caz I wana learn from u guys! I do need Artist/Music for my Projects :frown:and I wana share my little knowledge.

Even though I'm not part of this operation you guys are going to do, I would like to say; whatever you, do not make another WW2/WWI/Kashmir/North Korean/Vietnam conflict FPS game! Make something innovative and new for goodness' sake! I'm sick of seeing recycled clones being made everywhere. No one likes clones; people like to go for the original.

So...there...my request.

I used to play indie games quite a bit about an year ago. However, I have lost faith on indie developers. Firstly most of these games are clones. There are very few original ideas. Even when there are new ideas the problem is that these games are targeted at non-gamers. The developers just coerce tons of badly developed "creative" ideas with "cool" graphics. A few times I was really left wondering whether the developers really play tested their own game even once.

Also PopCap games' status as fresh and innovative is dubious to me. They may have done a few good ideas but when they blatantly copy their games from a small Japanese developers, without any permission, and then refuse to give them any credit, its a bit sad. My suggestion to you too is that please don't copy an idea without the permission of the original developer :). Hope you can come up with truly creative and fresh ideas.

p.s. edited to shorten the post

I am No BIG Fan of PopCap Games But of their success. Its not to say most of their games r crap. Zuma n some other games r certainly lot of fun! I don't know abt them copying from other developers. But its bad if u set out to do straight Clones. But certainly little "INSPIRATION" is always a good thing. Imagine if ID Software had patents over FPS gameplay. It wouldn't be much fun han?? It all about taking a neat idea to next step. Like Halflife did to Quake or doom.

I myslef would like to make games that have lot of Physics based gameplay. OR some forgotten Arcade classics with new elements but certainly doing another Pacman,Tetris, breakout clone is waste of time and their chance of success is very slim.

Yeah I was just warning against plagiarism. Everything else I completely agree. You seem to know the boundaries between copy-pasting and refinement well so its well and good.

Physics based game play is definitely something unique to indie games. I am no expert on these matters but here is my take on this matter (could be completely wrong :p). Except in racing games, normally we see game play being implemented separately and physics engine superimposed upon the core game as a tool for visualization. Its only in some of the indie games we see being rules of physics as a vital part of the game play, or maybe, the only part -_~.

Hahaha, I played it ageees ago but I liked that dialog so much I memorized it. And it wasn't bad at all, the game was. It was actually pretty decent. I think it was called Shahzore: The Urdu Game.

Well Demion, Only cade had sent me his email (no one else) so supposedly it was a team of two (3, counting another friend of mine who is interested too). I had emailed cade but didn't receive a reply as of this day.

I am still very interested in that venture (infact I am working on it off pg, I have convinced a grahpic designer and two other developers, I am contacting more (through google), the process is going slow...)

As I said earlier, this venture is not for the impatient and those who want some dreams. It's just another idea from just an other guy who happens to be patient.

Contact info is very welcome from anyone. A journey of thousand miles starts with the first step.

Regards,
MI
