dude job now a days depend on PARCHI in Pakistan neither MBA nor PHD effects on any thing . currently i am doing job in K.P.M.G which is one of big 5 auditing firm on the reference of my friends uncle in H.R . i just did my B.B.A in finance . beside you want to do job in banking sector software development M.B.A good for you but with doing job as you may read in job requirement advertise they say FRESH M.B.A with 2 or 3 year experience so its better to do M.B.A with job without job your M.B.A is nothing . but when i did my internship in H.B.L plaza there software development/maintenance staff members are neither Bachelors nor graduate even one of them dont know how to install windows properly they are deploma holder's of BE i don't get H.R logics they prefer less educated people may be because less educated = less salary . (it is my personal experience so far regarding job thing)

my dear ,

NOte that JOB does not depands on the degrees you have earned , its Purely from ALLAH's Will , first thing ,

i did matric with science , then pre engineering becuase my mind was totally turned towards engineering and programming since child hood, after inter i didnt get great percentage , altough in martic i was having 83 % and did top in many of my primary classes any how , i never get the admission in NED university and i was not having money to pay for private university so i looking for the feild switch to make good money , i heard about C.A that i will sarting salary of 30 K ( i am talking about year 1998 -2000 ) so i attempted CA foundation course , i tried for 3 years but i failed to PASS CA INTER :) during that time i DID my BCOm and then again switched to another field of computer science ... i asked my father to give me last chance he gave me ...and i got admission in KASBIT where i returned to MY dream field computer science , ...... in complete degree in 1999 - 2000 and my BAD LUCK that 911 happened and all the software business was ripped .... i never got a good job , my starting was 1200 PRK PM out of which i spent 800 on travelling to office but i learned some programming from there ... any how , i asked my friend for job search then i got my first JOB in a BANK ....as contract employee in 2004 for 12000 PKR then after 1 and half year i got permenant job in bank for 35000 in 2006 and after 1 year i got opportunity to move to dubai in a local bank here ...

MORAL of this short story

i started as a engineering and science student ending up as a MCS + BCOM and doing a job of a banker for last 7 years .:) so in our pakistani environment , your field or carrier is decided by the JOB you get , not the degree you opt .... ...but if you have a faith of MIND you can do any thing.....by will of ALLAH...

what i was lacking of in my whole life was , .... FAITH OF MIND......!!!!! after FAith on ALLAH.....
i switched field first time when i didn't got required percentage .... i NEVER ATTEMPTED the entry test for NED ...( my first mistake ) if you dont enter into water you will never learn to SWIM....!!
then i left CA..... again i quitted , lack of confidence and FAITH OF MIND..... plus lack of guidance ....!
secondly when i passed out as MCS , i again quitted my programming job due to reason i didt got a handsome salary again lack of FAITH OF MIND

SUGGESTIOn :

1, Never listen to negative thoughts and situations .... because each one's caliber and case is differnt from other and put attention to achieve your target ...!
2, always keep FAITH IN ALLAH , .... the best will happen to you insha ALLAH , and then keep FAITH OF MIND ( that if you have decided for some thing dont change your MIND and keep trying and try hard ever time ... i bet you will succeed insha ALLAH... )

3, Never loose your MIND , if you loose .... try again and again .... to keep concentrating in your goal

4, Dont switch fields you will end up no where , all of my friends who didnt changed the fields are now reaching to higher posts , but me due to this switching is far behind them and still struggling to move ahead .... because i have faith on ALLAH and then my self....

programming is an excellent feild ,i swithed to banking but i never quitted programming and still i m doing programming at peronsal level and since i am settled now so after 7 years i m still trying to achieve what my basic goal was ... to be a successfull programmer and will insha ALLAH going to setup a software house .. when i learned these two things ( FAITH ON ALLAH AND FAITH OF MIND ) i become stronger then ever....!!!

so i would recommend if you just concentrate on what you are doing see , if you have opted computer seince then continue same education go for masters if not then go for the certification .....but concentrate on one GOAL .......to achieve at one TIME>...

i m married and i have a child but still i am learning JAVA now a days at home after office .... to programme for android .... this is dedication .... once you achieve faith at ALLAh and faith of mind and if your work with dedication ...........NO ONE CAN STOP YOU from SUCCESS>.

i Do agree pakistan system is corrupted , to get a job you need reference but not necessarily a PARCHI .... just what you have to do is to TRY HARD don't get dis heart PUT YOUR FAITH AND DEDICATION ONLINE.... and PRAY TO ALLAH ...you will insha ALLAH get what you want...

so keep on trying .... computer science is a great field and now a days its again at BOOM....!! rather then banking which is now a day the most disastrous field due to crises over all the world......!!!

BEST OF LUCK ....

regards
nayyar

well its true that mba are receiving 12 k to 15 k but its for those who recently passed out from mba and have no job experience else a experienced b.comer can easily get 20k job but if u do mba from some reputated universty then you can get 35k+ starting. a cousin of mine passed m.com from haily college with 85% marks and the bank alfalah directly contact him for job and his starting was 42k where as one who do from smalll or unknown institution they have to struggle to get high paying jobs but this example is of m.com as i am doing it to but purpose of this example is to tell you about difference of reputated universty and unknown universty

my3m: two things matter in determining whether you get the best gig in ur life or your worst nightmare:

a) Your mba institution (cgpa,etc)
b) Overall situation in our country

consider this; I did m bachelors in COmputer sciences frm a well known uni in karachi, got an internship in IT dept of a small bank, got offered a 23k salary+benefits at the end. I thought hmm if I come back w an MBA I'll get 46 right??

WRONG!!! Govt changed in Pakistan the whole world got embroiled in something called financial crisis and I got stuck w the aforementioned nightmare

If you're lucky by the time you get in the market things would've stabalised here, as right now several companies have started hiring again, somewhat akin to pre2008 job scenario...

Contacts do matter but trust me, I couldnt bear the thought of using m fathers/relatives contacts to get a good gig, esp after all the efforts and money they pour into your education, I coulndt say "yar abba ab naukri bhi tum hi laga k do!" .... couldnt feel right as a man u know?

I hope u know ur stuff in CS or watever speciality u;'ve done ur BS in, and you'll get a job in no time Inshallah.

Bro MBA has a good scope but now a days unemployment is our big issue and whole world is suffering from economic crisis, as for as salary is concern one of my friend did BSC he work in a pharmaceutical company and got 60 + salary bro it also depends on ur luck ... what we is to do "Hard work and Effort"... and one thing which i realize if u have the potential and knowledge about ur field u will successful. I also did MBA in Finance recently and in my city there is very limited private companies and no industry. But i teaching in a university and some colleges and earn round about 20k easily. so what u have to do i prepare ur mind and initially u work hard because Business terminology is quite different. After 1 semister u will easy get through.
Lastly u will make scope of ur field by ur own self.

here is blast @Blastwave point regarding to the job situation (which is 100% correct what i experience)

Alright,

Today, I was part of a fortunate or an unfortunate gathering of HR heads and managers from different offices, MNCs and companies, gathered around at a large dinner table discussing hiring policies.

What they discussed was mostly shocking and mildly amusing.

Turns out Hiring Policies almost everywhere are platform, cliché and very very biased.

Now,

company’s Hiring criteria, general observations and analysis.

High priority – Definite Hiring

1 – Candidate has studied from IBA, SZABIST, CBM, Sir Syed
2 – Has four or more years of experience
3 – Has good market reputation.
4 – Is rich – or not poor enough to actually need a job.
5 – High prospect of going up the corporate ladder in a short time.

Candidate is considered for Managerial posts

Medium priority – Definite Hiring

1 – Candidate has studies from KU, MAJU, Hamdard, etc.
2 – Has less than three years of experience
3 – Has good market reputation
4 – Needs a job.
5 – Low prospects of going up the corporate ladder.

Candidate is considered for Executive – officer positions. No more

Low Priority – Need based hiring

1 – Candidate has intermediate education
2 – Experience in the relevant field
3 – Market Reputation is no issue
4 – Essentially needs a job. Will work for anything.
5 - No or poor prospects of raise, promotion.

Candidate is considered for entry level jobs and stays there forever.

TRENDS

1 - Pretty girls get hired easily. If the HR can justify their role, job description. Which they mostly do.

2 - If you're a guy with little experience getting hired for a big job... Then

a - The job is so crappy that no one wants it

b - it requires a lot of donkey work.

3 - If they like something in your CV that is not even related to your basic profession, you will be hired for the job THEY want. not what YOU want.

Beside you don't need to tell you Father to arrange job for you but make your own contracts like during internship etc because at the end of the day reference matter allot . that's why there is reference space at the right corner of your C.V

Really, Money matters but when you enter the practical life, you would find many other things of much bigger concerns other than just the salary you get. Working environment, Future of the company you work for, Your personal career growth, etc would be your concern. For your question, No matter what you do, you have to work hard to get something, I have done MBA myself and i did not got a job for 2 years just because i was living in a small city and because i had completed my MBA from a government university. Mostly all of the private organizations were not even inviting me for a interview, just because the reputation of Government universities in our country is not so good. The thing you should remember is that Knowledge you got no matter from where you get it, will always help you no matter in what condition you are in. You should keep few things in mind if you opt for MBA, Choose a good university with a good reputation, You must really acquire knowledge of the concern discipline you choose, Start you career without seeing the pay, Your pay would increase with time, but if you waste time waiting for a better pay than you would loose just more than that.

What I've learned from everything in the other threads here and posts by Blastwave and Roark etc is that your profession, skill, training, attitude, degree, university, luck, economic conditions, country all determine the sort of job you get. But if you isolate the degree alone citeris paribus the same person with an MBA should get higher pay without the MBA.

Thats just my opinion, I am not even working yet so I don't understand these things so well except believe in yourself, work hard and be perfect at what you do.

Isn't it Ceteris Paribus? :mushy:

Anyway, I had suggest talking to experienced folks like Roark and Blastwave and also going through the job thread. Also, I had say, if you are interested in pursuing a career in Business Management, by all means proceed ahead. You already have a BSc in Computer Sciences, so technically in my opinion, you would be a viable candidate for certain jobs.

I maybe going off on a tangent here but why do people view education as a mean to improve their paycheck (If this is true, it certainly explains why there is a lack of social sciences graduates in our country) and not as something that would enlighten them/make them a better person. Why not study something that you are truly interested in.

On topic, the salary you get depends heavily on the university you graduate from and the contacts you form during your studies/internships (not counting PARCHIs). From what I know as a BBA student at IBA, MBAs from my uni get upto 80k (avg: 50k) and BBAs can land jobs that pay upto 60k (avg:35k) so a lot depends on how good you are and how you perform in interviews etc.
