Petrol prices are decreasing, but there are many ways in which you save fuel efficiency. Some tips i am sharing that can increase your mileage by 2-5km/l.
1. The first thing is driving style. Ideally, you want to drive by maintaining the momentum of your car. Try to drive in a way that minimizes your chances of braking, because that just kills fuel efficiency. When you see a red light coming, put the gear into neutral and slow down, and try to anticipate when the light will go green. Your car should be moving when the light goes green, and then switch to 3rd or 2nd gear depending on your speed.
2. Don't accelerate fast, gradually accelerate to an acceptable speed like 60 km/h or 80 km/h depending on the smoothness of the road and maintain constant speed. Again the 1st rule applies, try to drive constant speed and at the same time maintaining momentum of your car.
I have have seen countless times, when idiots accelerate, when they know they have to stop at the red light. Waste of fuel + you are wearing out your brakes.
2. Tuning your car, make sure your oil is changed, air filters, tire pressure can have an impact as much as 15%...... Make sure your tire pressure is set according to what is designed for ur car. It is written on the door jamb on the driver side.
3. Please for the sake of god, do not go for bigger tires than what your car was designed for. There are two reasons, one is a decrease in fuel efficiency, because bigger tyres have more rolling resistance. You have to apply more power to maintain speed. And secondly, Bigger tyres are not preferred because you speedometer will be showing you are traveling at 75 Km/h whn infact you are really travelling at 70.... Your meters will be messed up....
4. fill up your tank to 1/4 so that it lasts a week...... because if you fill it to the top, thats an extra ~30kg of fuel => more weight => lesser fuel efficiency
5. Alloy rims might improve your cars looks, but they are heavy and hurt your fuel economy....
6. Remove useless stuff from the trunk, extra weight means less fuel efficiency....
I have saved approximately 12,000rs in a by following above steps.... if 12,000rs is nothing for you, then you dont have to follow these steps.
