Ideas for a short film.

Hello everyone,
A friend of mine has taken part in a film festival and everyone has been assigned a different topic for their individual film. I'm helping out and I thought it'd be a good idea to yield some ideas from the general public of this forum. The topic given to us is 'Exhale', we have two days to film and the length is relatively short(5 minutes). Keep in mind, it's a 'film', not a movie. It doesn't need dialogues or fighting sequences Please feel free to share your ideas, much appreciated.

i tried to restrained myself from saying things that would caused trouble

but picking title "exhale" instead of "inhale" might attract viewers but be careful on what show you want to present

therefore this also requires general understanding on which field you want to choose. if it's music then exhale is about one from underground to mainstream or something like that. exhale is like end result.

just my 2 cents.

You could do a brief environmental documentary on pollution, and how our ecosystem contributes towards it. E.g. dense smoke exhaled from vehicles and industrial regions.

Somewhat abstract, but could work given the topic at hand.

Cigarette smoke.
The water condensation droplets visible as mist when you exhale in dry winter season. Just make a vid showing mouths of 200 people exhaling condensation droplets haha.
Deep inhales and exhales lead to relaxation.

You could do a brief environmental documentary on pollution, and how our ecosystem contributes towards it. E.g. dense smoke exhaled from vehicles and industrial machinery.

Somewhat abstract, but could work given the topic at hand.

We considered that idea but to actually capture real life footage of pollution can be tedious. Aside from that, the judges are pretty experienced and very picky so they don't expect us to make a video completely straight-forward to the topic. Something that provokes some kind of emotion is what they are looking for, a documentary on pollution wouldn't be such.

This was one of the first ideas we considered but, again, it's a bit too straight forward. The same topic was given to some other team last year and they did it on smoking but it ended up being critiqued from being too restricted from all the other opportunities the topic could avail.

Then do it not on harming oneself, but on 2nd hand smoke, AKA Passive Smoking. How irresponsible smokers harm others, the children in household, by smoking cigarette in public etc.

Hence there should be a smokers' zone in every restaurant so that general public won't be affected by smoke.

u can let say shoot a film on exhale by showing how to exhale tensions outta life, how to exhale and quit bad habits, how to exhale(ignore) people who are just muu kay fires

Make the topic personal.

Don't cover smoking as in general, cover it on a very personal level, one mans struggle with it.

Refer to the last scene in Constantine when Lucifer rips out the cancer from this lungs and John wakes up with a nice clean breath

Everything's been modernized and we try to do more and more in less and less and therefore don't appreciate all the things in life, to stop and breathe. Hahaha. The problem is, we can't include 'characters' in the film, not because it's not allowed but because we can't act to save our lives

Think something else. Relate the 'exhale' with computing or technology somehow.

BUT, if the audience is old, then these general topics like smoking and pollution may work.

Hmm maybe a short film about someone planning to do something that makes him nervous..going to job interview, doing something he hasn't tried before. At the end he takes a deep inhale and exhale and dives into his challenge and succeeds. Yay =]
