GTA 5: Call of Duty Wants its Records Back
http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/10/17/gta-5-call-of-duty-wants-its-records-backCall of Duty: Ghosts publisher Activision has thrown down the gauntlet, warning Grand Theft Auto V developer Rockstar not to get too comfortable with all the records its broken.
In an interview with MCV, UK senior brand manager Kevin Flynn dismissed the idea that the Call of Duty brand is in decline, arguing the imminent release of Call of Duty: Ghosts will be a wake-up call to other companies that think they dominate the marketplace.
"Congratulations to the team at Rockstar for their success," he said, before adding, "We look forward to getting the record back before the next GTA title.
"We know that our unaided awareness for Ghosts is leading the way against other unreleased triple-A titles. Our digital content has proven extremely popular and Black Ops II has sold more than 3m units in the UK."
For anyone not in the loop, Grand Theft Auto V currently holds seven Guinness World Records, and managed to snatch several of those from the Call of Duty franchise, including the fact that it's now the UK's fastest-selling game ever.
