[h=1]Epic added a new item to Fortnite by accident[/h]

[h=2]Jetpacks weren’t the only new backpack in this patch[/h]

Fortnite’s newest patch was released on Tuesday morning, and players quickly noticed there was an addition to the game that wasn’t in the patch notes: a new backpack called Eye of the Storm Tracker.
As it turns out, the reason the item wasn’t in the patch notes is that it wasn’t supposed to be in the patch at all, according to a comment on the Fortnite subreddit by Sean “MrPopoTFS” Hamilton, the community coordinator for Epic Games.
“The Storm Tracker was an idea that was being tested for one of those backpacks,” Hamilton said. “This was not intended to make it into the v4.2 Content Update and we can’t promise this will ever officially be released. However, we do hope those who get their hands on it had fun while it lasted.”
Backpacks themselves are a line of items that were added to the game in this same patch, with the first being the game’s brand-new jetpack. It’s still a little unclear what exactly the Storm Tracker does, but it appears to track where the next safe zone will be, so that players can get a little advance warning on where they might have to move next. Based on Hamilton’s comments, it sounds like the Storm Tracker has been taken back out of the game, but we haven’t been able to confirm that for sure.

[h=1]Top 5 changes and updates coming to Fortnite[/h]

[h=2]Fortnite’s newest roadmap seems aimed at upping the competition[/h]

Epic Games has published a detailed blog post discussing some of the changes and updates planned for Fortnite, and there’s some big stuff in there. Many of these changes seem to be aimed at getting the game ready for upcoming live events and the rush to get good at competitive play that is sure to ramp up due to the $100 million in prize money coming to tournaments in the next year.
Let’s break down the biggest news in the post, and what it could mean for the game.
[h=2]THERE IS FINALLY A PLAYGROUND MODE COMING[/h]This is going to be a limited-time event, but you’ll be able to have fun and mess around in the Battle Royale map with your friends. It’s a feature that people have been asking for, and it’s great to see that it’s coming to the game.
Battle and build to your heart’s content with an extended period of time to roam around the map as well as increased resource generation. All treasure chests and ammo crates will be spawned, try droppin’ in different spots and scope out the loot. Friendly fire is on so you can scrimmage with your squad (up to 4 friends per match), but fear not you’ll respawn immediately.
Stats and challenges won’t be tracked in this mode, so players won’t be able to use it to cheese their way through each season.
The blog posts lists this as “v1,” so it’s pretty clear that we’ll see more refinement of this idea as time goes one. “This represents our initial step into what a creative mode looks like inFortnite,” Epic Games said in the post. “Practice, strategize and enjoy yourself. We can’t wait to see what you do!”
[h=2]CHALLENGE PROGRESS UPDATES[/h]This is the one I’m most thankful is coming: The game will highlight your challenge progress through pop ups starting in version 4.3.

This may seem like a small thing, but challenges that require you collect a certain number of items or do a specific amount of damage with a particular weapon can be hard to track as you’re also trying to survive and help your team. Knowing what’s going on with your challenges visually is going to be a big help.
On the other hand, some players are probably going to find this idea obtrusive, so I hope it can be toggled on or off depending on player preference.
[h=2]IMPROVED SERVER PERFORMANCE[/h]If you’re getting lengthy hitches where the game pauses completely while playing, you’re not alone. Epic Games says it’s tracking these issues with more detail and addressing them, so hopefully they will soon be a thing of the past.
The movement data that is sent to the server is currently throttled, and Epic said it’s hoping to remove that aspect of the experience in the future.
“Currently the game throttles the frequency that your player’s movement data is sent over the network to 20Hz for roughly the first half of the game,” Epic Games explained in the blog post. “This is reduce strain on the server’s physics system, allowing it to maintain frame rate. As the number of players participating in the match reduces to 24, we increase the frequency of updates to 33Hz. Over time we’ll improve performance of server physics calculations, and we expect to be able to remove this throttling in a future update.”
This is all great news, and the post goes into even more detail about what’s going on with the servers.
[h=2]THE VICTORY ROYALE SCREEN IS GETTING REFRESHED[/h]“Getting a Victory Royale should be a memorable experience, and the victory screen should support that,” the Fortnite team wrote. “We want to freshen up the celebration and make it a bit more rewarding.”
I was getting bored not seeing the current Victory Royale screen in the current version, so a livelier version of the screen I still won’t get to see is a neat update.
[h=2]THE REPLAY SYSTEM IS GETTING EVEN BETTER[/h]The replay mode is already great, but Epic Games wants to make it better to help show off the Fortnite Celebrity Pro-Am that’s taking place at E3 2018.
“We’re developing new camera features that allow you to orbit around any point of your choosing as well having the camera automatically track the action for you by focusing on a group of players, rather than just one person,” the Fortnite team said. “We’ve also been refining the map view in replays to add more functionality to the player list and to add bullet trajectories to the player markers on the map. Additionally, player nameplates have been tweaked to avoid overlapping where possible. “
[h=2]THIS ISN’T ALL, BY ANY STRETCH[/h]The post has more information about topics like key mapping on the console version of the game and mentioned that the jet pack will featured in tomorrow’s limited-time event. The team is also discussing keeping a game mode with larger squads around forever due to the enthusiasm players have shown for the 50v50 modes that have already been tested.
Fortnite is growing and changing at a rate that’s hard to believe at times, but even so this is a pretty ambitious list of goals for a game of this size. It all sounds like good stuff, but you never know what’s going to happen until the changes get into the hands of the community, and sometimes Epic has even put items into the game by mistake. We’ll keep our eyes on the weekly patches coming to the game.

[h=1]Fortnite’s Close Encounters limited time mode temporarily disabled[/h]

[h=2]It was only out for about an hour[/h]

Close Encounters, the new limited-time mode in Fortnite, has been disabled just an hour after it went live, according to a tweet from Epic Games.
“Due to an issue with Close Encounters, we’ve had to disable this LTM while we investigate. In the meantime, we’ve enabled Solid Gold,” the company said.
The Close Encounters limited-time mode was originally designed as a way for players to get to try the jetpack that was recently added to Fortnite. The game mode replaces all ofFortnite’s weapons with shotguns and gives the jetpack a high probability to spawn, giving just about everyone in the mode both shotguns and a jetpack.
While it is unclear what the exactly issue was that caused the mode to be disabled so quickly after going up, players in the Fortnite Battle Royale subreddit reported several issues, including the wrong types of ammo spawning on the ground, as well as the solo queue optiondisappearing after only being out for about 30 minutes while the duo and squad options remained.
The Close Encounters limited-time mode is expected to return to Fortnite once Epic has resolved the mode’s current issue.

[h=1]Fortnite hero builds website to track weekly Battle Pass challenges[/h]
[h=2]The world is still good[/h]
Not all heroes wear capes.
Reddit user Tmant1234 is one of those heroes. Tmant1234 is the developer behind Fort-Friend, an interactive website dedicated to keeping track of weekly Battle Pass challenges inFortnite.
Users can check in week-after-week to see all the Battle Pass challenges and their locations on the map. An interactive checklist makes it easy to track which ones you’ve done and which you have yet to do.

Fort-Friend map. Tmant1234/RedditTmant1234 answered a few questions about the map on Reddit, calling Fort-Friend a personal project that he’s been working on for the past couple of weeks. When asked if people could jump on the project to help out, Tmant1234 said it’s certainly a possibility.
“It’s been just me for the past couple of weeks, but if there’s interest that is completely a possibility for the future,” they said on Reddit. “All the code is on github and I have no problem sharing if there’s interest (I’ll probably put this info on the site in an update going out later today).”
Tmant1234 is working on is improving users’ mobile experience, including potentially using a higher-resolustion image of Fortnite’s map to make it easier to navigate on a small screen.
Fort-Friend is a great way to track your progress, and our own guides can help you move forward if you get stuck on the specifics of how to achieve each goal.
Fort-Friend is still in an early stage of development, but Tmant1234 is prepared to update it every week when new Challenges appear. The github link isn’t available yet, but Tmant1234 said they’ll update the thread as soon as possible with more information in case you want to jump in and help with the project.

[h=1]PUBG Corp sues Fortnite publisher for alleged copyright infringement[/h]

[h=2]PUBG Corp says Epic Games copied its intellectual property[/h]

PUBG Corp is taking Epic Games to court in South Korea over accusations that Epic Games copied intellectual property to create Fortnite Battle Royale.
“This is a measure to protect our copyrights,” a PUBG representative told Bloomberg News.
This isn’t the first time PUBG Corp has accused Epic Games of copying its designs onPlayerunknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) for the increasingly more popular Fortnite Battle Royale. The corporation filed an in injunction in January against Epic Games Korea, according to the BBC. Epic Games is now accused of copying PUBG Corp’s weapon designs as well as the user interface from PUBG.
While both games employ similar gameplay traits— Fortnite Battle Royal and PUBG both drop 100 players into a map and make them battle it out until only one person, or one team, is left standing — there are some notable differences between PUBG and Fortnite Battle Royale. Fortnite encourages players to build forts and craft items in order to defend themselves and better their attacks, while PUBG hasn’t incorporated any building skills in the game at this point.
Fortnite has continued to grow in popularity while attention to PUBG has struggled to match that game’s immense popularity. Epic’s Battle Royale mode launched in September 2017, just a few months after Fortnite’s initial launch in July of that year. Fortnite remains the most watched game on Twitch, according to analytics site TwitchMetrics, averaging an impressive 187,000 viewers in May. PUBG, however, only averaged an approximate 52,000 viewers this month; a 9 percent decrease in viewership. Even streamers like Dr DisRespecthave called out the player base jumping from PUBG to Fortnite.

“The game is slowly dying,” Dr DisRespect says in the video above. “Until they change the player mechanics and optimization, it’s never going to succeed at the Fortnite level. Ever!”
Update: An Epic Games representative told Polygon the company doesn’t comment on ongoing litigation.

[h=1]Fortnite’s shopping cart is a complete joy[/h]

[h=2]Fortnite’s first vehicle is a doozy[/h]
Fortnite’s latest patch brings us the game’s first real vehicle, the shopping cart. It’s going to change how the game is played in some very interesting ways, from what we’ve seen. I’ve had a chance to play a few rounds with the shopping cart, and I have some thoughts on the matter.
The cart fits two people, but you can use it solo just fine: Get a running start and hit the space bar to coast along at a good clip. You can’t fire while you’re just driving the cart however, although you can shift to the passenger seat and take a few shots if you don’t mind giving up control.
The real fun comes when you take the cart to the top of a hill and get some serious speed zooming down the side of it. You only have limited steering ability when going that fast, so you’re going to want to make sure you’re aimed in the general direction of where you’d like to go.
I haven’t had a chance to do any serious testing with the game’s highest peaks, but so far I have yet to take any falling damage while driving the shopping cart, even after getting air and falling a pretty significant distance.

I regret nothing! (I also didn’t take any falling damage) Epic Games via PolygonThis could actually be a problem with more competitive players; we’re seeing video whereplayers are building from the shopping cart and then surviving huge falls that should kill them when the other team destroys the base of their structure. That ... has some pretty big implications for strategy.
But this gets to the heart of why this is such a great addition to the game: It subverts a lot of the actions you’d expect from a vehicle in a battle royale game, and shifts things just enough that people are sure to get weird with it. Expect to see people pushing the cart off big hills before jumping into the passenger seat to do cartoonish drive-bys of the game’s well-populated areas. Well-organized duos might be able to do some serious damage with the right weapons, map placement and planning.

Can’t catch me! Epic Games via PolygonIt’s going to add a bit of chaos to an already hectic game, but there’s also the possibility of dedicated players doing amazing things with the shopping cart — there’s going to be a really high skill ceiling on what you can do with ‘em if you have a good working knowledge of the map and are able to aim from a moving platform. Expect to see some some weird, wonderful replays and clips from players in the next few days.
Vehicles have come to Fortnite, but at least they did so with a bit of flair. This is going to be fun.

Wheee! Epic Games via Fortnite

[h=1]Fortnite Coming To Nintendo Switch According to New Leak[/h]

It looks like rumors that Fortnite is making its way to Nintendo Switch might be true. A new photo showcasing E3 2018 booth planning has leaked, and it shows a number of unannounced Switch ports. The biggest name of the bunch is Epic Games' popular Battle Royale shooter Fortnite, but there are some other big unannounced third-party ports listed as well.
Fortnite has made waves in the past year thanks to it being the first major Battle Royale game to hit consoles. It's managed to surpass its main competitor (who they're currently in a legal situation with), PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, in terms of popularity and money earned, and has also become the most popular multiplayer game. It's currently available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and mobile, so bringing it to Nintendo Switch would be the final piece of the puzzle in terms of getting the free-to-play shooter on all major platforms.

Also included in the leaked photo, which first surfaced on 4chan, are a number of unannounced Nintendo Switch ports. These include Bandai Namco's Dragon Ball FighterZ, a port of the arcade hit Killer Queen, Ubisoft Toronto's action-adventure game Starlink: Battle for Atlas, FIFA 19, free-to-play shooter Paladins and the unannounced party cooking game Overcooked! 2. These should be taken with a grain of salt as they're currently unofficial, but none of these would be much of a surprise.

Epic Games bringing Fortnite to Nintendo Switch makes all the sense in the world. While Nintendo's system may not have the install base of the PlayStation 4, it's currently the system with the most momentum. There's also not any real Battle Boyale competition on Switch, so it gives the already huge game yet another niche to dominate. Not only will Epic Games fulfill a hole in the market, but they'll also make a ton of money in the process.
While Fortnite coming to Nintendo Switch is obviously the biggest news story here, the rest of the list is plenty interesting in its own right. Fans begged Bandai Namco and Arc System Works for a Switch port of Dragon Ball FighterZ, so it's great to see gamers (possibly) getting what they want. Killer Queen Black also gives the multiplayer game a platform for more widespread success, and the original Overcooked is one of the most enjoyable cooperative multiplayer games in recent years. These are all strong announcements that point to a great E3 for Nintendo

[h=1]Fortnite may be coming to the Nintendo Switch sooner than you think[/h]

[h=2]Here’s even more evidence that Fortnite is coming to the Switch[/h]

We already have some pretty convincing evidence that Fortnite will be announced for the Nintendo Switch at E3 next week, but a developer and console hacker on Twitter seems to have found proof. It looks like there’s already code in the Nintendo eShop that points to an update for ... Fortnite.

It’s looking more and more likely that the game will be both announced, and perhaps launched, during E3. It’s going to be interesting to hear Nintendo talk about an online-only game coming to a system that still has not launched its online service.
But Fortnite and the Nintendo Switch otherwise seem like the perfect pairing, as long as you can find a strong internet connection whenever you’re traveling. We’ll know more next week when Nintendo holds its annual E3 press conference.

[h=1]Fortnite’s shotguns are getting a major nerf[/h]
[h=2]No more one-pumps[/h]
Shotguns have always been the most controversial weapon in Fortnite Battle Royale. At first, many players wanted them out of the game entirely. Most people have now grown to see the importance of the weapon to encourage building, but no one was quite happy with getting killed by one in just one shot. So, in hopes of making close-quarters combat a little better for everyone, Epic is taking a look at shotgun damage numbers, and made some changes earlier today.
The biggest change most players will notice is the fact that no shotgun can net a one-hit kill of anyone with 100 health and 100 shields. That’s a pretty big change for pump shotguns in particular, which are having their damage dropped by 10, bringing the uncommon version to 80 and the rare version to 85 base damage. In addition, both the pump shotgun and the tactical shotgun are having their damage multiplier dropped from 2.5 to 2.0. All that math basically just means that their max damage is going to be closer to 170 than 200.
This is a pretty massive change for Fortniteas a whole, and means that short-range combat is going to look a little different. After this change, the heavy shotgun, the rarest of that type of weapon, will also do the most damage. Similarly, submachine guns and pistols are likely to be favored by a few more players now. Also changing as a part of short-range combat in this update are traps, which have been buffed from 75 damage to 150.
The final change that Epic announced in this update is that jetpacks will officially leave the game next Monday, June 11.

[h=1]Fortnite for Nintendo Switch is out today[/h]

[h=2]The rumors were true: Fortnite is coming to the Switch[/h]

Fans have been asking for Fortnite to come to Nintendo Switch for months, and the hints that it was going to happen piled up in the days leading up to E3. Nintendo and Epic Games have finally confirmed that it’s happening and, better yet, Fortnite is out today at 10 a.m.P.S.T/ 1 p.m. E.S.T.
The game will be available for free on the Nintendo Switch eShop, and Epic updates the game weekly on the PC and existing consoles. We can expect Fortnite on the Nintendo Switch to stay on the same release schedule to make cross-platform play as smooth as possible. Switch players will finally get a chance to see why Fortnite is so popular, and existing players have yet another way to take the game with them.
This is only the battle royale game mode, however. The Save the World mode won’t be included in this release. You will, however, be able to play against PC, Mac, Xbox One and mobile players through the Switch version. You’ll also be able to connect any standard headset 3.5 mm headset to the Switch for voice chat, which is very possibly a first for the system.
This is exactly what fans have been hoping for: A version of Fortnite you can play on the go with traditional controls. The fact you’ll be able to download it and play today is just icing on the cake. We’ll have hands-on thoughts with this release in the next few hours.

Sony is blocking Fortnite cross-play on Nintendo Switch

Any Nintendo Switch owner can now go onto the eShop and download Fortnite: Battle Royale for free right now. Console-quality free-for-alls on the road could make the Switch a popular choice with fans.

But many veteran Fortniters discovered an unpleasant surprise waiting for them when they tried to log into Switch with their old Epic Games accounts. No account previously linked to a PSN account can log in on a Switch console. Gamers who have tried have been met with a “Login failed” message.

“This Fortnite account is associated with a platform which does not allow it to operate on Switch,” the screen reads. “Neither the Fortnite website nor Epic Customer Service are able to change this. To play Fortnite on Switch, please create a new account.”

Even worse, PS4 owners can't solve the issue by unlinking from their PSN accounts, which apparently isn't permitted. Starting from scratch is the only solution Sony has permitted Epic Games to offer.

Sony, which has previously faced criticism for refusing to allow cross-play between PS4 gamers and Xbox One gamers for Fortnite matchmaking, evidently hasn’t softened its stance for Nintendo gamers either.

This essentially means that you must create a new account and lose all of your ranking progress to play on Switch. And Epic Games’ somewhat passive-aggressive error message makes it clear that it isn’t any happier about it than its fanbase.

Sony’s stubborn isolationism could ironically have the effect of convincing Fortnite fans to make the Switch (or Xbox) their primary Battle Royale console, since it allows them to play against a larger group of opponents without restrictions.
Dick move, Sony.

Fortniteis one of the biggest games on the planet, and Epic reportedly has the numbers to prove it.
The publisher announced on Tuesday that Fortnitehas 125 million players, which makes it bigger than massive MOBA titles like League of Legends. Fortnite first launched in July 2017, making that 125 million player record something that occurred in less than a year. To compare, Riot boasted 100 million monthly players log into League of Legends monthly back in 2016, with 27 million of those players logging in daily.

[h=1]Fortnite’s Blockbuster challenge skin has finally been revealed[/h]

[h=2]And it even has swappable face masks[/h]
Since the beginning of Fortnite’s fourth season, one mystery has kept the community coming back week after week trying to complete challenges: the Blockbuster skin.
For those of you who don’t remember the beginning of the season seven weeks ago, or were never quite up to speed to begin with, Blockbuster is the name of a challenge that appears inFortnitefor any player who buys the Season 4 Battle Pass. To complete the challenge, players had to complete the weekly Battle Pass challenges for seven of the 10 total weeks. At the end of the challenge — up until today — there was simply a silhouette on the traditional orange field that notes a legendary cosmetic item, leading players to believe that a legendary skin would be their reward.
Today, along with the release of the Battle Pass’s seventh week of challenges, Epic finally released the full skin, which we now know is called The Visitor.

[h=1]Sony’s response to Fortnite controversy is embarrassing[/h]

[h=2]Sony does not want to admit it has a Fortnite problem[/h]
For almost two days, Sony had stayed silent about the growing anger over Fortnite accounts that were locked out of playing on the Nintendo Switch due to use on the PlayStation 4. Now the company has finally issued a statement, but it says so little that it‘s practically useless for fans who were hoping Sony would listen to their complaints.
Here‘s what happened: Accounts that have been played on the Nintendo Switch likewise seem to be locked out of the PlayStation 4. Sony never warned players that they could be locked out of using their accounts on future consoles due to playing Fortnite on the PlayStation 4. After the discovery, the company‘s social media account was bombarded with complaints about the situation.
“We’re always open to hearing what the PlayStation community is interested in to enhance their gaming experience,” Sony said in a statement to the BBC. ”With ... more than 80 million monthly active users on PlayStation Network, we’ve built a huge community of gamers who can play together on Fortnite and all online titles.”
What’s missing so far is any acknowledgment of the issue itself, or even a hint that Sony is working to improve the account lockout situation for its angry players.
”We also offer Fortnite cross-play support with PC, Mac, iOS, and Android devices, expanding the opportunity for Fortnite fans on PS4 to play with even more gamers on other platforms,” Sony stated. ”We have nothing further to add beyond this at this point,”
The statement reads like a tactic, like Sony hoping to avoid admitting there’s a problem long enough for things to calm down and players to forget why they’re so upset. While Sony pats itself on the back for user numbers, it fails to give any information on how it will improve the situation for the large number of upset fans. This isn’t a problem that’s going to go away anytime soon.
Epic Games has declined to comment on the story. Nintendo has told Polygon there’s not much it can do about how other platforms treat Fortnite accounts.
“In fairness, there are three different things going on,” Reggie Fils-Aime, president and chief operating officer of Nintendo of America, told Polygon in an interview at E3 2018. ”You have companies like mine that encourage cross-play and enable cross-play. You have a developer and content owner that wants cross-play and is encouraging cross-play, and then you have the other platform holders and what it is that they do. And when it comes to other platform holders, as much as you have influence on other platform holders, I don’t. And that’s a decision that each of them are making, and some are supporting cross-play and some are not.”
Fortnite was downloaded on the Nintendo Switch over two million times in under 24 hours

[h=1]Fortnite’s patch v4.4 Content Update adds stink bombs, nerfs rockets[/h]

[h=2]This update has a lot of changes, but no missile launch[/h]

Fortnite’s patch v4.4 Content Update is here, and while it may not be as explosive as we were hoping, it does have some pretty massive changes considering it’s an off-week for Epic.
The update’s only real addition for Battle Royale is the Stink Bomb, a brand new weapon that creates a dangerous cloud for enemies. The cloud lasts nine seconds, deals damage and even obscures vision within the area that it was thrown.
The other big Battle Royale change that came with this update was a nerf of explosive weapons. Epic’s first nerf to the weapon archetype came a few weeks ago when it tried restricting the ammo that players could find around the map, but apparently it wasn’t quite enough to hold grenade launchers and rockets back. So, now Epic has restricted the amount of explosive ammo a player can hold to just 12, which should prevent explosion spamming altogether in the late game.
Battle Royale also received a few bug fixes and performance upgrades, especially to the brand new Nintendo Switch version of the game. While all these changes may not seem like much, it’s important to remember that Content Updates, which are released in the weeks between patches, are normally on the smaller side while officially numbered patches include the game’s biggest changes.

[h=1]Fortnite’s Save the World mode campaign, more updates detailed[/h]

[h=2]A new campaign, new enemies and the return of a fan favorite mode are coming soon[/h]

While developer updates on the future of Fortnite Battle Royale are released in a near constant stream, the team behind Fortnite’s other game mode, Save the World, prefers to offer us big news posts a little less often. The newest of these is “Save the World State of Development — June 2018,” in which the Save the World development team goes into a few details about what fans can expect over the next few months.
The first big update focuses on making the game a safer place for everyone as the team discusses the mode’s new reporting system which, starting next week, will let players know when someone they have reported gets issued a punishment. While not every report will result in a punishment, those that Epic is able to substantiate could result in suspensions, temporary bans or even permanent bans, depending on the behavior.
On the gameplay side of Save the World, the development team gave fans their first sneak peak at the game mode’s newest campaign and environment: Canny Valley. The desert terrain will provide players a space for missions that will dive deeper into Fortnite’s story and the events that helped start the Storm. Also on the way are some new enemies, including two scheduled to come out very soon — a new version of the Shielder and something called a Zapper — with a few more coming in the next couple of months.
Finally, Epic is bringing back the Challenge the Horde mode to Save the World, which will be the central event for update v5.0. This mode throws players directly into the action in a pre-built fort and gives them a short amount of time to prepare themselves with traps and weapons before waves of zombies enter the fray.
All of these additions are expected to hit Fortnite within the next couple of months, with patch v4.5 expected to release next week, while patch v5.0 should accompany the release of Season Five on July 10.

[h=1]Sony tries to buy more time for PlayStation 4’s Fortnite account debacle[/h]

[h=2]They’re “looking at it”[/h]

Sony has finally broken the silence following the company’s brief and embarrassing statement about the controversy surrounding Fortnite accounts being locked out of the Xbox One and Nintendo Switch if they have ever been used on the PlayStation 4, but there still aren’t many details available about what Sony plans to do about the situation.
“We’re hearing it,” Shawn Layden, president and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment America, told a Eurogamer reporter whose question indicated the company hadn’t been listening to players on this issue. “We’re looking at a lot of the possibilities. You can imagine that the circumstances around that affect a lot more than just one game. I’m confident we’ll get to a solution which will be understood and accepted by our gaming community, while at the same time supporting our business.”
And that’s it. For now, at least.
Sony is very likely hoping that the situation calms down before it has to make a decision on whether or not to allow cross-platform play and use of third-party player accounts across consoles, a decision that could change Sony’s video game business dramatically.
This question isn’t about whether Sony should let PlayStation 4 Fortnite players play against Xbox One players, but whether the company should reverse its long-standing policy that seems to prohibit items purchased on other platforms being used on the PlayStation 4. That decision would impact a variety of games, not just Fortnite.
It’s a rough position to be in: Sony can either say no, which would anger players, or it can say yes, and the PlayStation 4 is opened in a way it never has been before. Neither choice is good for Sony, which is likely why it has seemed as if the company would rather just wait out the controversy and hope people stop bringing it up.
The statement above, however, indicates that Sony will decide something in the future that puts the subject to rest.

[h=1]Fortnite is having a one time only in-game event this Saturday[/h]

[h=2]It seems like the super villain's missile might finally be ready to launch[/h]

Rumors of a missile launch in Fortnite have been circulating for weeks now, but developer Epic Games has finally confirmed that one is on the way. According to a news post in-game, the event is schedule for 1:30 p.m. EST on Saturday.
Perhaps the most surprising part of this launch is that it’s slated to happen just one time. As some players noticed since last week, the game’s TVs have been displaying countdown timers. While there have been several countdowns so far, it seems like this one is finally going to have something meaningful at the end. This is likely a lead up to the end of the season, which is scheduled to come on July 9. While last season’s end was punctuated by meteorites crashing to Earth and destroying player’s structures or anything else in their way, it appears this season’s event could have a much bigger impact.

Epic GamesWhile it’s difficult to say what exactly this missile might do, the possibilities cover a wide range. On the one hand, it could simply launch into the sky, only to be seen again in a couple weeks when the next season starts. Or, the missile could take out an entire section of the map leaving another Dusty Divot-sized crater behind. If it is going to hit the map, chances are good it will either be in Moisty Mire, an area that Epic has long been rumored to want to change, or in Lonely Lodge, the home base of the superheroes, the enemy of the villains that seemed to create the missile.
Until the missile actually launches all we will have is speculation. We may not know what exactly will happen, but at least we finally know for sure that something big is going to happen in Fortnitethis Saturdayand we’re all invited to watch.
