[h=1]Fortnite players on Switch can’t join PS4, Xbox One matchmaking anymore[/h]
[h=2]Switch players are now matched with mobile players only[/h]

The latest Fortnite patch, issued earlier this week, has changed the game’s cross-play significantly. Not only does the game now make players participate in cross-play pools by default, but the Nintendo Switch version only matches people with players on iOS and Android — keeping them out of the larger console environment.
In the patch notes for version 8.10, Epic Games confirms that it has combined the matchmaking pools for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, as well as for mobile devices and Switch. The studio’s explanation has to do with better managing the game’s difficulty for everyone.
“We expect an on-average better per-game experience for both Mobile and Switch players,” the notes read. There have been complaints about an uneven playing field between those on traditional consoles and those on Nintendo’s hybrid handheld console; considering that PS4 and Xbox One players have had way more time to get into Fortnite, there’s no real surprise there. The Switch version’s frame rate issues and unique controls also prove to be obstacles, especially since the Switch controllers aren’t really best-suited for shooters.
Combining the PS4 and Xbox One player bases also comes with a requirement to “opt-in to cross-play,” says Epic. “Players opt-ing out are restricted to Creative Mode and Playgrounds.” Cross-play is now the standard for console and mobile players, although that’s not necessarily a huge change.
There’s good news for friends playing on different consoles: They can still invite each other to play Fortnite, regardless of platform. It’s just random matchmaking that comes with the new restrictions on player pools.

[h=1]Fortnite introducing Apex Legends-style respawns in next patch[/h]

[h=2]Getting eliminated is no longer the end in Fortnite[/h]

Fortnitemay be in a controversial state of balance right now, but that hasn’t slowed Epic down from updating the game. The developer announced on Friday afternoon that next week’s Fortnitepatch will include one of the biggest new introductions since launch with Reboot Vans. These are special vans parked around the world that allow you to respawn fallen squad mates.
This feature, which Apex Legends helped popularize, will work similarly to other battle royale games. When a squad mate dies, you’ll have to collect their Reboot Card. Reboot Cards will drop along with an allies loot when they get eliminated. Once you have the Reboot Card you, or any other squad member, can take it to a Reboot Van and bring the teammate back to life.
Using a Reboot Van is always a risk, according to Epic. Activating a van causes a loud honking sound — not unlike the one the Battle Bus makes at the start of a match. It also sends a column of light into the sky, and lets surrounding players know how many people will be respawning.
Fans have speculated about a respawn feature since the beginning of season 8, when vans were initially visible in the game’s replay mode. Players immediately pegged the vans as respawn points, especially in light of Apex Legends launching with the feature just a few weeks earlier.
It’s unclear how the addition of respawns will affect Fortnite. Epic removed health-on-elimination because the developer said it was causing too much aggressive play. With the addition of respawns for squad mates, Epic may feel the game can support a more aggressive play style, since eliminations won’t be as punishing.
We’ll have to wait until the Reboot Van launches with Fortnite patch 8.30, which should be on either Tuesday, April 9 or Wednesday, April 10.

[h=1]More than 1,200 accounts banned for cheating in Fortnite World Cup[/h]

[h=2]And more than 200 players forfeited prize money[/h]

Epic Games gave bans to more than 1,200 Fortniteaccounts and revoked cash prizes that more than 200 players had won following Epic’s investigations of cheating in the first week ofFortnite’s World Cup Online Open. The crackdown caught cheaters who had played in multiple regions, shared accounts and teamed up, and one account was even permanently banned for using cheat software.
That cheater (whom Epic did not name) used the cheat software during the tournament’s semifinals. The account involved had played “for less than five minutes” before being discovered and banned, Epic said. The great majority of the other accounts sanctioned received two-week bans for their misconduct.
Of them, 196 players forfeited their winnings after they were caught circumventing region locks to play in several regions. Epic said that will change the prize payouts for others in the tournament, but their improved finishes won’t be reflected on Fortnite’s in-game leaderboard.
Nine prize winners lost their money for sharing accounts, and one winner’s earnings were vacated for teaming. Epic Games said it has added a “real-time teaming detection algorithm” to its competitive play. Teaming, in which players in a solo mode work cooperatively and create a competitive disadvantage for others, can get players banned even in competitive non-tournament play. Custom matches aren’t monitored for teaming.
After the first week of solo-play qualifiers ended, two players — including one who qualified for the World Cup — were accused of cheating. Epic Games appeared to reference this in its note to the community yesterday.
“We appreciate the community’s concern around the integrity of the competition,” the studio said, “but questioning the results of an individual participant without direct evidence unfairly tears apart what should be a crowning moment of achievement for an individual or team who earned their way there and performed when it counted.
“Our primary goal is to support competition that is fun, inclusive, and in line with the overall spirit of Fortnite,” it added. “Unsportsmanlike conduct from participants is not within that spirit, and will not be tolerated in Fortnite competition.”
The Fortnite World Cup Online Open tournament qualifiers got started April 13 and will continue for the next nine weeks. The second week of qualifiers will focus on Duos play. Winners cash in on a $1 million prize pool, and the best performers are tabbed for the World Cup of Fortnite, to be held July 26-28 in New York. This post has more about the tournament format.

[h=1]Fortnite is teasing another Avengers crossover for Endgame[/h]

[h=2]It looks like another Avengers event is on its way[/h]

There aren’t many things on the planet bigger than Fortniteand Marvel’s Avengers, and it seems they’re teaming up once again. It isn’t clear based on the tweet exactly what this crossover might mean, but it would appear it will begin on Thursday, April 25.

The tweet includes a Fortnite character skin, which looks like Bright Bomber, holding onto Captain America’s shield. Based on the image, it doesn’t look like we’re getting a simple return of Fortnite’sThanos mode from the Infinity War event.
A Fortnite character carrying Captain America’s shield could mean quite a few things. It could mean Marvel-themed cosmetics (though there’s currently no cosmetic item that goes on characters’ arms). It’s also possible that we’ll get a new game mode, this time featuring Cap’s shield as a weapon or pickup of some kind.
Either way, it seems there really is another crossover coming. We’ll likely get a few more teases before the event goes live, but they’re sure to be just as mysterious as this one. We’ll have to wait until April 25 — the day before Avengers: Endgame’s release in theaters — to know anything for sure.

[h=1]Fortnite’s beloved update actually made people play less, Epic says[/h]

[h=2]Despite cries to “revert,” Fortnite stays the course[/h]

When Fortnite’s v8.20 update hit earlier this year, hardcore fans were not happy. Among various tweaks and changes came the news that Fortnite was doing away with mechanics that awarded players for getting kills. Since then, the internet has been full of nonstop cries to “revert” the game to a previous state — but today, Epic Games revealed that most people didn’t actually enjoy the changes.
Previously, Fortnite awarded players with extra health after eliminating enemies, who also dropped building materials once dead. Players were also able to carry more resources, and gather them more quickly, too. While these mechanics were only in place for about a month, they were heavily embraced by the competitive community because it allowed them to focus more on the action, rather than spending a lot of time scavenging for supplies or health.

These tweaks were completely undone back in March, and it’s been non-stop griping among the Fortnite community ever since. People didn’t understand why Epic Games would undo something that clearly made for better competitive play. Today, Epic Games finally broke the silence on why it made such controversial changes, revealing that, despite the outcry online, the average player didn’t actually like v8.20 that much.
“Everybody enjoyed receiving health and shields for eliminations after we introduced the changes to the core modes, but there was an unexpected consequence: players at large grew more frustrated with Fortnite play, feeling they had less of a chance due to encounters with high-skill players with full health and shields,” Epic wrote in a blog post. “Ultimately, Siphon increased engagement for the highest-skilled 10%, while the remaining 90% were more frustrated and played less.”
Apparently, people started playing the core battle royale modes less, stating that the game had gotten too “intense,” Epic says.
What makes this revelation fascinating is that it goes against the common wisdom shared byFortnite fans online. According to popular streamers and the vocal Fortnite players on social media, the game is getting worse and making them want to play less. But players who enjoyFortnite as a competitive game are vastly outnumbered by the people who play Fortnite just to have fun.
And when it comes down to it, Epic has a duty to the entirety of the Fortnite player base, not just the most hardcore players. The problem is that it’s the hardcore players who stream the game nonstop that have become the face of Fortnite online. These players have to deal withFortnite’s identity as a casual game while also seriously competing for millions of dollars, which complicates things even further. Epic wants to build an esports scene around Fortnite, without catering to a niche audience too heavily.
Fortnite competitive play relies on a unique balancing act: maintaining a solid and balanced experience for competitive players, while being essentially the same Fortnite played by hundreds of millions of players,” Epic reasoned. “After all, those players are the audience forFortnite competition, and their engagement is key to the growing opportunities for competitive players.”
Still, for players who really miss those Siphon changes, Epic offers an alternative: You can always just play Arena mode, where those mechanics are still active.

[h=1]Epic admits it overpriced Fortnite’s Slippery weapon skin[/h]
Fortnite’s new wrap isn’t animated, so it’s going down to 300 V-Bucks

Fortnitehas had weapon wraps for a few seasons now and fans feel like they have a pretty good handle on what the pricing of the cosmetic items should look like. So, when Epic broke with that traditional pricing with the game’s new Slippery Wrap fans weren’t happy. After a bit of backlash, Epic has decided to change the price of the wrap to match fans’ expectations.
In the past, when Epic has sold cosmetic Wraps in the store, the standard has been that they would cost 500 V-Bucks for animated Wraps — which have moving patterns that constantly shift throughout the game — and 300 for non-animated ones. But the Slippery Wrap, which isn’t animated, was released at 500 V-Bucks. The wrap itself looks nice in-game with its fish-scale-like pattern, but without any animation fans were unhappy to see the price set at the higher tier.
Just two hours after the skin debuted, Epic acknowledged the criticism it was receiving from fans, and tweeted out an apology about the skin.

For now, the skin is still in the Fortnitein-game store, though it’s likely to rotate out soon as all Fortnite skins do. It appears that the skin itself couldn’t have its price changed while it was in the store, so the price listed remains 500 V-Bucks, but based on this tweet it would appear that Epic will still refund players who pay the higher price for the skin. Next time the Slippery Wrap shows up in the store, it will probably reflect the new 300 V-Bucks price point instead.
While Epic made a habit in the past of setting the prices on wraps around the idea of animated versus non-animated, this price change is the first time we’ve gotten an official confirmation of this difference. This may not be a guarantee from the company, but it seems likely that from here on out all of Fortnite’s wraps will be priced to reflect this difference.

Players absolutely hate Fortnite’s new mech

It’s only been a day and players already want it gone

Fortnite’s latest season is only a day old, but fans are already furious about the game’s latest vehicle: the B.R.U.T.E. mech. These mechanized death machines let two players, one gunner and one driver, wander the map unleashing torrents of missiles at anything in their path. While, in theory, you can just shoot them, they’ve proven to be a lot of trouble to pro players and amateurs alike.
While the earliest complaints about the B.R.U.T.E. happened as soon as the vehicle was announced in the season X patch notes, the more hostile reactions didn’t happen until players were killed by the mechs themselves. As their frustration built, players took to both the game’s competitive and standard subreddits to make their displeasure known.
“This is literally without a doubt the worse thing they have done in this game,” wrote Reddit user Evo4emperor. “I’ve dealt with the planes and double pumps and everything else ... this is just dumb.”
But it isn’t just regular players that seem to be having issues with the mechs, even pro players and streamers aren’t happy. Streamer Dakotaz tweeted a video of a mech-related death he suffered and his less-than-pleased reaction to it. Meanwhile, one of the most popular clips on the subreddit is of Fortnite World Cup Solo Finals champions Bugha getting blown up by a mech with the tongue-in-cheek title, “Fortnite World Cup Solo champion gets outplayed.”

A mech firing a volley of rockets Epic Games via PolygonThe number one complaint has been just how deadly they are.
The mechs have two weapons at their disposal. One is a shotgun, which rarely sees much use, and the other is a missile launcher — the vehicle’s real problem. The gunner can charge the missile launcher to fire up to 10 missiles at a time, and even a partially charged barrage seems to be capable of dealing 200 damage, the game’s maximum possible health, and tearing through any buildings in its path.
As most of the clips show, it’s not always easy to tell when a B.R.U.T.E. is shooting at you, and more often than not you’re going to die before you even have a chance to respond. These missile barrages can even come from fairly far away, or while you’re in a fight with another player.
To make matters worse, the mechs are easy for just one player to pilot. While there may be separate seats for driving and shooting, one player can simply switch between them and keep their opponent pinned down with missiles.

A B.R.U.T.E. mech Epic Games via PolygonAnother possible problem with the mechs is the frequency with which they spawn. As it stands now, there’s a new spawn of two mechs nearly every zone. That means taking out one, or even two mechs doesn’t mean a B.R.U.T.E.-less game, just a momentary respite.
While fan frustration with the mechs so far has already been evident, it’s worth remembering that we’re only a day into the season. It’s still possible that fans could turn around on the B.R.U.T.E.S. or that Epic could nerf them like they have ballers and planes in seasons past.
If worst comes to worst, Epic’s also already shown that its willing to cut its losses on certain new creations, like it did last winter when the Infinity Blade was added to Fortnitethenswiftly removed.

[h=1]Epic hit with class-action suit over hacked Fortnite accounts[/h]

The suit was brought on behalf of those affected by a security gap in Epic’s log-in system

Epic Games is being sued over security breaches that allowed hackers to access the personal information of Epic Games accounts.
The class-action lawsuit, filed by Franklin D. Azar & Associates in U.S. District Court in North Carolina, alleges Epic’s “failure to maintain adequate security measures and notify users of the security breach in a timely manner.” The lawsuit states that “there are more than 100 class members.”
In January, Epic acknowledged that a bug in Fortnite may have exposed personal information for millions of user accounts. Check Point Researchers originally reported how the attacks were carried out:
By discovering a vulnerability found in some of Epic Games’ sub-domains, an XSS attack was permissible with the user merely needing to click on a link sent to them by the attacker. Once clicked, with no need even for them to enter any login credentials, their Fortnite username and password could immediately be captured the attacker.
Epic Games acknowledged and fixed the issue, but the suit alleges that the company has failed to notify affected users. “Epic Games has not yet directly informed or notified individual Fortnite users that their [personally identifiable information] may be compromised as a result of the breach,” the lawsuit says.
According to the filing, the plaintiff and anyone else affected by the breaches “have an ongoing interest in ensuring that their [personally identifiable information] is protected from past and future cybersecurity threats.”
Polygon reached out to Franklin D. Azar & Associates and Epic Games; the law firm has yet to respond and Epic Games declined to comment on the suit.

[h=1]Fortnite is down after end-of-season 10 black hole event[/h]

There’s no telling when the game might be back

The end of Fortniteseason 10 has arrived and it seems that also means the end of Fortnite, at least for now. The game appears to be completely offline, with no official word on when it might be back.
Fortnite’s end-of-season 10 event started off with the launch of the rocket on top of Dusty Depot. The rocket flew into the sky and exploded, tearing a hole in the world. The FortniteIsland seemed to tear in half before it disappeared into some kind of black hole. After the event players were taken back to a black screen with just a small dot at the center.
This event comes after weeks of rumors and speculation that the start of the next season would bring with it a new map. On Friday, the Italian App Store posted an image and video on the official Fortnite page that suggested something called Chapter 2, complete with a new map, could be on the way.

Both the image and the video have since been taken down, and Epic hasn’t posted about the future of the game on more official channels. It seems possible that this extended downtime, however extended it may be, could give Epic the opportunity to make such a major change, but we won’t know anything for sure until Fortnite comes back.
There’s no official word on when Fortnite could be available to play again. While we think it’s safe to say that the game won’t be gone forever (it’s way too popular for that) we’ll have to wait to hear from Epic on when the servers will be back online. In case you want to check on the servers for yourself, Epic has a server status page on its website that lets you see whether things are working or not.
This post will be updated when we have more information about Fortnite’s return.

[h=1]Fortnite is back with Chapter 2 and a new map[/h]

After almost two days of downtime Fortnitehas returned

Fortniteis finally back. The game went down on Sunday afternoon, and after almost two days of complete blackout, it has finally returned. But it isn’t the same old game you remember —Fortnite has returned as Fortnite Chapter 2, bringing with it a brand-new map along with dozens of other changes.
Based on a trailer that leaked on Monday morning, the new map will include swimming, fishing, and a new boat. There also seem to be new weapons around the map.
Fortnite’s brief vacation from the internet was all part of the end-of-season event for season 10. The event culminated in a rocket ship blasting into the sky, creating a black hole that sucked up Fortnite’s old map. After that, players were treated to a black screen with a circle in the center — something that proved surprisingly alluring to fans.
All of Fortnite’s social media went dark between the season ending and Chapter 2 starting, which means that players had no way to tell whether the game was coming back or not. Without warning, the game returned around 4 a.m. ET Tuesday morning, which is a fairly regular time for a Fortnite patch.
While it’s clear there are plenty of gameplay changes as part of this new season, we don’t know exactly what they are. Unlike previous seasons, Epic did not release patch notes for this update, so players will have to discover all of the changes in the game on their own.

[h=1]Epic is changing Fortnite’s physics engine, delaying end of current season[/h]

Season 2 will now begin on Feb. 20

Epic

Epic Games is changing up Fortnite’s physics engine. The popular battle royale game will move to the Unreal Engine’s new Chaos physics engine with the 11.50 update, which is currently scheduled for early February.
While a change in the game’s physics engine may sound like a big deal, in the announcement of the change, Epic says that the main goal is to make sure that “Fortnite still feels like Fortnite.” In other words, you shouldn’t notice much of a difference. To make things smoother, Epic is also rolling this change out slowly by “starting tests with a small group of players.”
Because of this new update, Epic has also pushed back the start of Fortnite Chapter 2’s second season. This marks the second delay of the current Fortnite season. This season began with the start of Chapter 2 back in October 2019. The season was originally set to end in December, but was extended to Feb. 6. On Friday, Epic pushed the date for Chapter 2 season 2 back to Feb. 20.
As always, this delay doesn’t mean that nothing is happening in Fortnite. Along with the extra weeks added to the season, Epic is also adding new Overtime Challenges for players to complete, and a new two-week event that hasn’t been announced yet. Epic says that it will tease this event on its social media channels.
Notably, Fortnite’s Twitter responded to a tweet about Warner Bros.’ Birds of Prey movie just this morning, saying “See you soon HarleyBirds of Prey hits theaters on Feb. 7 so, that seems like a good guess that the upcoming event could be a tie-in to the Harley Quinn-centric movie.
So far, Chapter 2’s first season has offered fewer changes than previous seasons — at least that Epic has noted publicly — but there’s no way to know if that will continue into season 2. The announcement post does include a few teases of the changes coming next season, but Epic has redacted them out so we can’t see what exactly they say. For now, we’ll just have to wait until Feb. 20 to see what kind of changes Chapter 2 season 2 will bring to Fortnite.

[h=1]Fortnite’s legacy controls leave the game next week[/h]

Taking controversial Aim Assist with them

Fortnite’s legacy controls setting, which offer an aim assist to gamepad users that some felt was an unfair advantage, will leave the game on March 13, Epic Games announced on Friday.
The announcement, made via Twitter and Fortnite’s in-game news feed, said that improvements to aim assist necessitate the scheme’s removal. The legacy settings date to an effort last fall to balance matchmaking across platforms and controller types.
A PC’s mouse and keyboard, generally speaking, is quicker and more accurate than a user aiming and firing with a gamepad. Aim assist was supposed to close that gap for gamepad users, but some discovered a way to track players through walls, smoke, and other obstructions.
When “Use Legacy Look Controls” leaves the game on March 13, players who still had that setting active will have their sensitivity settings reset to the new defaults. Players who wish to preserve those settings may do so before then by using the “Copy from Legacy” choice in the Controller Options menu, and then toggling “Use Legacy Look Controls” off.
Fortnite’s patch at the beginning of October tried to address matchmaking across different control schemes. Legacy settings were made available at that time, although Epic tried to encourage players to give the then-new schemes a chance. but fans weren’t really going for that.

[h=1]Fortnite’s new season has been delayed[/h]

Season 3’s new release date is June 4

Fortnite’s next season has been delayed, Epic Games announced on Tuesday.
Epic pushed the start of the new season out more than a month: from April 30 to June 4. This is the first time that season 3 has been delayed, but it isn’t the first delay for FortniteChapter 2. The updated game’s first season lasted months longer than was originally planned with numerous delays hitting on the way to the season 2.
While these delays may come as a disappointment to fans that were excited to see what changes Epic had in-store for the upcoming season, the developer says that Fortnite will have plenty of content to keep players busy.
In the blog post where it announced the delay, Epic mentions multiple game updates that will include new challenges, bonus XP, “fresh gameplay,” and “surprises.” For now, it’s unclear what those things might be, but in the past Epic has offered things like Overtime Challenges after delayed seasons, which sometimes gave players next season’s battle pass for free if they complete the challenges.

[h=1]Fortnite available on the Google Play Store for the first time[/h]

Previously only on Android outside of the Google Play Store

Fortnite is now available for Android on the Google Play Store. The game was previouslyavailable outside the Google Play Store as a direct download from developer Epic Games’ website.
In 2019, Epic told The Verge it asked Google to remove the expectation that apps “use Google’s payment service for in-app purchase.” It said the 30% fee Google requires is “illegal in the case of a distribution platform with over 50% market share.” Google disagreed.
Epic said in a statement to Polygon Tuesday that it’s changed its tune due to the “disadvantage” Google puts on apps outside of the Google Play Store.
Here’s the company’s full statement:
After 18 months of operating Fortnite on Android outside of the Google Play Store, we’ve come to a basic realization:
Google puts software downloadable outside of Google Play at a disadvantage, through technical and business measures such as scary, repetitive security pop-ups for downloaded and updated software, restrictive manufacturer and carrier agreements and dealings, Google public relations characterizing third party software sources as malware, and new efforts such as Google Play Protect to outright block software obtained outside the Google Play store.
Because of this, we’ve launched Fortnite for Android on the Google Play Store. We’ll continue to operate the Epic Games App and Fortnite outside of Google Play, too.
We hope that Google will revise its policies and business dealings in the near future, so that all developers are free to reach and engage in commerce with customers on Android and in the Play Store through open services, including payment services, that can compete on a level playing field.
You can now download Fortnite for Android for free on the Google Play Store.

[h=1]Fortnite is getting a Party Royale mode, so you can give your guns a rest[/h]

Epic Games has confirmed Fortnite’s newest mode

Fortnite data miners have found evidence of a brand new map. The map appears to be part of a new Limited-Time Mode called Party Royale that involves hanging out with friends instead of fighting.
While images of the map came from many of Fortnite’s different sources, some of the most complete previews came from Twitter user Lucas7yoshi, one of Fortnite’s most prolific data miners. According to Lucas7yoshi the map may be called Papaya, and Party Royale might be the mode players play on it.

Lucas7yoshi also found the description for the Party Royale mode: “Welcome to the Party! Leave your weapons and mats behind and hang out with friends, play games, perfect your skydive and more. The party’s just getting started.”
Epic Games confirmed the existence of the new content in a statement to Polygon, saying “Party Royale is a new experimental and evolving space. Leave your weapons and mats behind.”
It sounds like Party Royale won’t involve any fighting at all, and will instead focus on letting players wander around a new island and complete different kinds of activities. It’s possible some of these activities could echo the golf minigame from Fortnite season 5 or any of the other smaller minigames that Epic has created for challenges in the past, though it’s unclear if the mode will involve a new map or not.

Fortnite has long found a place for itself in the lives of many players as a social space, just as much as a competitive online multiplayer game.

Image: Riot Games via PolygonJust last week during Travis Scott’s in-game Astronomical event, Fortnite reached a new record for concurrent online players. Scott’s in-game event, which involved a giant version of Scott putting on an in-game performance, had no fighting, shooting, or building, and might provide a preview of what this new Party Royale mode could look like — without the 12 story-tall version of Travis Scott, of course.

[h=1]Fortnite’s new event turned the Storm into water[/h]

Here’s what happened in today’s Fortnite event, in case you didn’t get in to see it

On Monday afternoon, Fortniteheld its latest end-of-season event, The Device. The event seems to altered the Storm and started a chain reaction which could change huge sections of the Fortnite map once season 3 starts on Wednesday.
The event started at the Agency as Midas’ doomsday device was raised high into the sky on a platform. Midas then activated the device, causing explosions and flashes around the map. Suddenly, players were transported into a first-person view of the inside of an office that was all white. After a brief flashback to the normal Fortnite world, players returned to the office where Jonesy — the blond-haired default skin — walks through the door and says he’s surprised to see the player, and to learn that the player character could hear him.
After meeting Jonesy, players returned to the Fortnite world, where the Storm, which normally marks the zone in each match, was replaced entirely with water and there was now a massive hole in the roof of the Agency.
Unfortunately, many players, including Epic creative director Donald Mustard, had to experience the event through streamers rather than in-game themselves due to server capacity. Epic announced that the event would only have a limited capacity, however there was no announcement of what exactly that meant. 30 minutes before the event, as players attempted to log in, Epic tweeted that it was full. Any players who weren’t in the game already were completely unable to launch it.
While the event didn’t necessarily bring some of the massive map changes that many players might have been hoping for, there is still a new season on the way. In normal battle royale matches, the storm remains water, but there are likely to be more changes when the new season officially starts on June 17.
