i don't think that would be a good thing to do, dual layer discs are designed with layer break points. I don't think games meant for single layers will work like that ..
why are you even doing that ? a single layer blank dvd is like 20 rs .
im not sure what you're asking .. my ps2 was modded to be region free, all backups ran, any game i downloaded from the internet regardless of its region ran ..

checkout sticky thread " complete guide how to burn" on hardware section, i think you missed Clonecd instructions.. just click on first option of clone cd Read to image file: - This is used to rip what’s on the disc to an image file, such as an .iso or .cue file.
You will get around 5 to 6 image file with .dvd file after that just burn .dvd file to make another backup.
