Wait a minute. Are you honestly suggesting that the manufacturing cost is ALL what matters?

The cost you read on the internet these days is mostly the cost of components used to manufacture the phone. That doesn't account for the Labour Wages, Overhead Costs, Marketing Expenses etc. Then there is the Profit Margin. Obviously a company is made to earn profit, fulfilling its primary objective. So don't expect them to charge "Fairly", especially when we are talking about Technological Product which will become obsolete slowly over the course of its life cycle. (Expect higher prices at start to earn maximum benefit and expect it to reduce slowly, with respect to market/technological conditions)

I think what he meant was that there's nothing in the S4 that justifies a 30k price increase over S3. You get a slightly souped up internal hardware, nothing else.

Isn't this what companies do?

Apple released iPhone 5 with one more row of icons and with slightly souped up internal hardware, while charging about the same amount over 4S.

Some people did raise the same point and never upgraded to iP5 but that never stopped liking (and buying) the iPhone 5.

Why the discrimination when it came down to S4? Which is practically a much better phone over S3 (and indeed costs more to build than iP5).

Don't let the 'looks' fool you because i have personally held one S4 (for 10 seconds or so) and i could confidently say that its not only handles better, have a better build, solid feel but is also a better performer. Add the fact that its new hardware and newly launched phone. So price is supposed to be that high initially.

30k Price increase over S3 for a very souped up Phone ~ This is what its all about.

The discrimination comes to S 4 because of its price and how it stacks up against something like HTC One. Put aside everything subjective like the utility of expandable storage or removable battery. You can't seriously expect people to NOT have doubts about S4 price when HTC One costs the same. It's evident that a lot of care and attention went into the manufacturing of HTC One, it's a phone that was genuinely made with the idea of creating something truly unique; from its front stereo speakers with a dedicated amp, to its construction and its camera. You KNOW that HTC TRIED to make a good phone here.

Then you look at the S4 and it's evident that this phone was made for the sole purpose of minting cash. Forget looks, forget form, lets throw everything we can in it to drive in as many people as we can. Even Samsung themselves have admitted they don't expect S4 to really change the market. Then how can you see a 70k price tag on both the HTC One and Galaxy S4, and think the price on S4 is justified?

I'm looking at both phones from a 3rd person perspective. I don't intend to buy either. I personally own an iPhone 5 so my views there will be naturally a little biased.

lol you seriously think the S4 is not worth the price because the HTC one costs the SAME? lololol get off your hate bandwagon for a change. The S4 is the most compact phone with a 5" screen ever made and yet it still has a big removable battery to go with. S4 is an engineering achievement in a very different way than the HTC one.

You are delusional htc one does not have higher priced components than S4. That's the only way a phone's price value is judged. Aluminium to mid range phones main bhi hota hai like one S and xperia P.
