Well done.

But i don't think AutoKMS is available yet. CODYQX4 is the one working on that. Currently only KMSPico is available, that too is in BETA stage. Am i mistaken?
I read somewhere that both are the same thing. Pardon my ignorance if they are not; yes KMSpico is the only one available yet

I read somewhere that both are the same thing.
They are the same because they use "KMS" servers to activate windows. AutoKMS however, does this automatically everytime it gets in touch with a KMS server (auto-scheduled).

And i think i mis-informed slightly in my previous post because CODYQX4 is actually working on a Toolkit which acts as "All in One" tool to activate Office 2010, 2013 & Windows 8 etc.

Anyway, its good to know that some form of activation is available.

--------

I have found something interesting. It seems windows 8.1 is auto-encrypting your boot drive. Not necessarily a bad thing, but if you forget your password then you'd be in real trouble. Encryption adds more security, so i'll let the users decide who actually wants to have their drives encrypted.
Source: Windows 8.1 Will Start Encrypting Hard Drives By Default: Everything You Need to Know

Also ....
 • If you log in with a local user account, Device Encryption won’t be enabled.
 • Encryption is only enabled on devices with the appropriate hardware and will be enabled by default.
 • Users who have upgraded Win8 to 8.1 (instead of Clean Install) will have encryption disabled.

Anyone who has this enabled and wants to disable it, can either search on Google or check the article.

Hey has anyone installed 8.1 on amd x2 generation processors as i have read that their is a compatibility issue with older generation processors?
I haven't yet installed Windows 8.1 but Windows 8 have been running well on an AMD Athlon X2 4600+, 5000+ & 5600+. Apart from the Video Drivers of some PCs (featuring a SIS Adapter), they are a'right. One PC (4600+) is featuring an Nvidia Chipset so it has all of its drivers working a'right.

If you want, you can download any RTM VL version of 8.1 available on IPT (or any public tracker) and install it. Then using the KMSPico to activate it.

Alright.
heres a pile of stuff i wnat to know.

I had windows 7 on my HDD, Now that i sold my PC.
I think i will have to reinstall Windows on the HDD again due to different Mobo and hardware.

Heres the question.
Can i switch to Windows 8 without losing any data or registry?

also yeah, i saved all the registrys from the RegEdit on a drive.
So will that help my already installed softwares on the HDD after i install the windows?

How is windows 8 compared to windows 7 in gaming.
How can i isntall it without losing all of my 2TB of data.
How can i restore most of the stuff to windows 8 through windows restore program ( i backed that up too)

Do you think i'll be able to keep my data safe in the newer windows?

Need answers asap.

BananaExpress! You have piled up some questions without being absolutely clear, so I'll try to answer.

Can i switch to Windows 8 without losing any data or registry?
You will have to format the partition completely inorder to move to Windows 8. Note that i said "Partition" and not "drive". Most of the time people have a separate partition where they install only Windows and its softwares.

Whats the situation on your end?
Whats the total size of your drive and how many partitions do you have?
Whats the size of your C: Drive?

also yeah, i saved all the registrys from the RegEdit on a drive.
So will that help my already installed softwares on the HDD after i install the windows?
You are messing with the registries so is it safe for me to assume you are an "Advanced" user?

What exactly do you mean "All your registries"? You shouldn't Restore ALL your registries on Windows 8, except only for those programs which you use and have installed them in Windows 8. For instance, if you have backed up Steam's reg keys, then first Install Steam in Windows 8 and then restore the registries.

Restoring the registries for Windows' Programs (from Win7) can mess up your Windows 8 so only take backup of 3rd Party Software's registries.

How is windows 8 compared to windows 7 in gaming.
Really? 180 Threads and you still ask that question?

There is no noticeable difference. The OS itself however, utilizes your RAM more efficiently so the bottom line is, it does much better than Windows 7. Overall performance in Gaming however, remains the same. (Real world analysis)

How can i install it without losing all of my 2TB of data.
If you have a separate partition for Windows (like I explained above in 2nd Para) then you don't need to worry about the data in other partitions (like D, E or F etc).

Make a bootable USB (i am sure you know how to do that) and install windows from it. During installation it'll ask you to choose the partition where you want to install it, from where you can choose the drive you have assigned specifically for Windows ... say, C: drive.

How can i restore most of the stuff to windows 8 through windows restore program ( i backed that up too)
By Windows Restore, i assume you are talking about System Restore? Because thats something completely different.

All in all, you can't restore anything, other than a few registry entries for some programs like Steam, Origin etc. You'll have to install software from scratch.

If you are concerned about things like a Web Browser's cache, extensions or history etc then it can be backed up (the ones which support it) but its Manual Process and i don't know if you really are an Advanced User who understands this stuff.

Do you think i'll be able to keep my data safe in the newer windows?
Rather vague question. Can you explain this more? What kind of protection are you looking for?

Just pronz!
jk.
ah, sorry i typed that all in a hurry!
anyway.

First para,
I make 35GB pertition for windows only and the rest for my usage.
35GB C:\
750GB D:\
And the rest E:\

For the second para,
i only backed up the registrys of a few programs installed on other drivers (Not C:\) So it was a question about if they will work or not. but due to experience they will work i guess, i just wanted to be sure. being insecure soo..

3rd para,
Gaming performance.
wasnt really targeted at performance (again sorry for all the hurry :p)
I wanted to be sure its not like what people say "Most games arent supported and stuff" which is false..

4th para,
USB, yeah i know :p
Rest on my first answer.

5th para
Yeah, i was talking about system restore.
I never really used that thing much so due to the answer i gues it is pretty much useless.
I thought it would support windows 8.....
And i already backed up web browsers cache, extensions and history and all that stuff (ftw to the firefox/chrome :p)

And..
last question again :D
Popeye.

EDIT:
PS,
Would you rather use a legal Windows 8 or a cracked one?
Which way you'll feel less.... insecure? xD
Also, should i stick with 7 or go 8?

I don't know if you can expand your C drive but 35GB is way too less and you'll face problems in future. If you are gonna install a 64bit OS then make atleast 60 or 80GB, and incase of 32bit, atleast 40-45GB.

And yes you'll only need to format the C: drive for installing windows. Data in other drives will remain unaffected.

Yep they'll work just fine, as already made clear in my last post giving Steam & Origin's example.

Some games required Win8 crack to make them work. Otherwise, all the games are running perfectly a'right. The amount of such games was like 5 in 100. The ones i remember atm are:
- The Amazing Spiderman Game
- Transformers Fall of Cybertron
- Borderlands 2 (it was fixed in later patches)
- Saints Row 3 (if i am not mistaken)

There were 2 or 3 other games probably, but i can't remember them.

Yeah, i was talking about system restore.

System Restore is used to REVERT the changes you made to your Windows. For example, if you have installed a driver or program which malfunctioned your PC, then you can simply use System Restore, to get back to an earlier state i.e. when that driver/program wasn't installed.

That obviously requires you to first have it enabled and a Restore Point available -- usually windows makes a restore point if you have made any changes to your PC, like installing a software or driver but you can manually make a restore point too.

Would you rather use a legal Windows 8 or a cracked one?
Which way you'll feel less.... insecure? xD
Whatever is in my reach. I can't say anymore than that because that'd open up the discussion to a whole new direction.

I won't feel insecure in either scenario.

Also, should i stick with 7 or go 8?

I just upgraded my existing Windows 8 to 8.1. Used the following disc:

MICROSOFT.WINDOWS.8.1.RTM.X64.ENGLISH.DVD-WZT
SIZE: 3,899,295,744 byte
SHA-1: BC2F7FF5C91C9F0F8676E39E703085C65072139B
MD5: F104B78019E86E74B149AE5E510F7BE9

Used the following keys for installation:
Core=334NH-RXG76-64THK-C7CKG-D3VPT
Professional=XHQ8N-C3MCJ-RQXB6-WCHYG-C9WKB

Use the Professional Key.

Anyway, Extracted the Disc in a Folder, and ran the setup from inside Windows. Upgraded just fine, without losing any files, data or anything whatsoever. (Just lose some Equalizer settings of Realtek HD Audio Manager)

Used KMSpico v9.0.3.20131029_Beta Edition for activating BOTH Windows 8.1 & Office 2013.

Re: Windows 8 Official Thread ~ 8.1 Available || BETA KMS Available (Opening Post)

Should I install Windows 8.1 RTM or Build 9600? Which one is better and why? And what's the best way to activate them both?

Payman! The 8.1 RTM is Build 9600.

So far, KMSPico despite being in Beta phase is working perfectly fine. However, its currently for 180 days.
