WHO recommends travel restrictions on Pakistanis

Heard this today. World Health Organization has declared it mandatory that every Pakistani travelling abroad should have a valid certificate validating therein that this individual has been vaccinated for polio virus. So Pakistanis will have to keep a Polio Vaccination Certificate beside their green passport.

"All travellers from Pakistan, Syria, Cameroon should receive documentation of their polio vaccination status to serve as proof of vaccination"

It is however not clear if our President and PM also need a vaccination certificate before foreign trips ??

if i were them ,i would have imposed this ban years ago.it took decades for them to eradicate polio from the world but still polio exists here .really very disappointing for us.

Also, where do we get these immunization certificates from? Apparently WHO has its own requirement for showing proof, which I don't want any stupid risks taken for.

Everyone (Atleast all the sane people) get their kids vaccinated when they're young. If you have been vaccinated you just need to provide proof. I guess they'll check your blood for antibodies or something like that.

Also, the thread title needs to change. Besides these restrictions have only been recommended so far, they haven't been imposed.

No. The certificate would be mandatory. And to prove its authenticity you will have to attach a photo of yourself taking the polio drops

Today cameroon and syria are proud countries as they are been compared with the likes of Pakistan. Sooner they will be prouder when they will earn immunity, leaving Pakistan the only country on the earth on the list of country (ies will become y) spreading polio virus.

As if we haven't exported enough terror already. Polio is just another weapon in our arsenal of shame.

When countries having populations in excess of 1 billion can be declared polio-free by the WHO, you know there's something wrong with your society when polio workers are killed in the name of religion.

Be thankful they haven't recommended to completely ban Pakistanis from travelling. Polio is taken as a very serious endemic in the outside world and quarantine is the preferred method to deal with it.

May that section of society face the wrath of Allah for brain-washing the misguided.

Sadly Pakistan is one of the few countries from POLIO hasn't been eradicated. The problem is not with the government. The government pays a lot of money in this regard. I have personally went on mop up program of POLIO screening which is conducted twice every year. The government pays 500 rupees for a 4 hour job of just asking in about 14-20 houses whether their children has been vaccinated.

The major problem lies in OUR population. 50% of people wont get vaccinated due to reasons that it might lead to sterility of their children _ complete bullshit. Secondly the large number of immigrants that we had from Afghanistan brought in a major surge.
