Whey Protein Powder,Halal or Haram?

So i was looking for whey protien and then i thought lets check if they are really HALAL or not. normally we think they are derived from cheese which comes from cow milk,so yeah it will be HALAL,but....

there are two types of Whey:

Sweet Whey: Sweet whey is manufactured during making of rennet type hard cheese like cheddar or Swiss cheese.
Acid Whey: Acid whey (also known as sour whey) is obtained during making of acid type of cheese such as cottage cheese.

Halal Status of Whey:

The media and the type of rennet may influence the halal status of whey produced from them. The following are the requirements for us to be completely sure that the whey is halal:

1. Mother culture media has to be halal.
2. Bulk culture media has to be halal.
3. Microbial rennet preparation has to be used.
4. Dryers where liquid whey is dried to make whey solid or powder should not be used to dry animal based media and rennet whey to avoid contamination.

It is advised that we restrict ourselves to Only halal or kosher certified whey as shown by the halal or kosher symbols such as UD, KD, and COR. Non-halal or Kosher certified whey made even with non-animal based media and microbial rennet is not recommended because the cheese manufacturer can change the media and rennet source any time without notifying Muslim consumers..

so Rennet is used to make most whey.

Rennet are enzymes extracted from mammalian's stomach, which means that regular whey protein is never kosher...and rarely halal.
It can either be animal based usually taken from baby calves stomach, or fungal based. If it's the latter, then Alhamdulillaah! But if it's the former... then most probably it would be haram, as, again, mostly non-muslims are doing this process.

The Islamic ruling concerning rennet is that if it is taken from an animal that has been slaughtered according to sharee'ah, then it is pure (taahir) and can be eaten. This is according to the Hanafis, Maalikis, Shaafa'is and Hanbalis.

now the problem is not only rennet,alcohol is somewhere used in the process,i read an email reply from optimum nutrition:

so its still ambiguous that this 100% whey is 100% HALAL or not.
now i looked up for any product that claimed to be Halal.Reason is why companies will say its not Halal is because they don't have the certificate, which could hold them legally responsible.

Ultimate Nutrition is the only product which is IFANCA certified.so it is Halal Certified (Meaning animal killed by saying the name of God Almighty over it for use of the rennet, or that the rennet used is not from a pig.)
but this Certification is only for their NATURAL flavor.

Verdict:
As far as proofs and facts take me,Ultimate Nutrition is the only product i could search of,if there were more they would have been IFANCA certified as long as they are produced in america,for those produced outside America,i dont know about them.so if anyone of u know more about this.. please Enlighten us

man i don't care... whey protein is not important anyways... you can get fish or "beef" instead of it for natural protein source in cheaper money... why take whey anyways? food supplements like creatine etc the sort of things you should be taking but the normal source of nutrients should be all natural... I don't like whey anyways...

but even if you still want to use whey then it is a problem if the process is haram... you must take care and i don't even think many people are aware of this... i wasn't aware of this and i have used whey protein before although chose against it when i could get mega gains with natural protein sources...

Exactly my thoughts,other protein sources are much cheaper as compared to whey.1 serving of WP cost us more than ~100pkr in pak and gives around 20-30g protien while in same price 250g of chicken gives ~60-80g of proteins.
only advantage whey has it is fast absorbing.

i quoted an email reply,that was about this ON whey powder.they might not use haram animal by-products but they mention that alcohol is used somewhere in the process of flavoring,this might be only in those flavors mentioned above.so other flavors may or may not contain alcohol.

the thing with supplements like whey protein is that its fast absorbing, the instant boost of sugar and glutamine and protein one needs after heavy lifting is present in protein shakes, sure chicken and beef and fish are cheap but they are slow absorbing and digesting proteins i.e. not ideal for post workout..
Plus google about why protein shakes are halal and haram..I've read that once the rennet animal or fungal changes form its no longer haram and another ingredient known as lecithin is haram so i use ON since they use Soy Lecithin which is halal!!..
so do not argue about the benefits of supplements they are not necessary but they give you the bleeding edge results u can get from a workout..!!

Brother if u getting angry try natural things like cheese, eggs, 1kg meet, 1kg milk, rao fish, potato, checken, dahi, creatine, banana, ice cube, quaker oats and water every 15 minutes try this in every day and after 1 month look ur body, body stamina and recover speed.
