PC What are some good Metroidvania games?

I wanna play some good 2D Metroidvania game, please recommend some. Steam games are preffered.

@CerebralTiger can write an essay on how good Ori and the blind forest was..it was his GOTY last year, I think

and I can vouch for Guacamelee....EXCELLENTTTT GAME

I recommend waiting a week for the definitive edition of Ori to hit Steam. There's some new content and a few worthwhile additions to the gameplay.

Axiom Verge, Shantae games, Strider, The Swapper, Dust: An Elysian Tail, Slain. Lots of great metroidvanias have come out on steam in recent years, be sure to check 'em out.

Also, if you haven't already played Metroid Zero Mission and Super Metroid, they are what you need to play first and foremost.

Though i'll keep playing it, it looks awesome visually, probably Strider will be next, will also play Cave Story+ eventually.

Try DeadLight i really enjoyed it make sure to play it on hard difficulty makes the experience enjoyable 2x.

I would also urge you to play Deadlight as suggested by MadDemon & Never Alone (Kisima Ingitchuna). Just noticed you already own both of these :$

Dust is a really fun game though, albeit a bit too easy cuz of the easily breakable combo system.

....although the deviantart artstyle for the portrait art doesn't do it any favors.

I don't really care if it's cheezy or cringy, as long as gameplay is good. The furry crap is annoying, yes but who cares, i usually skip all those cut scenes anyways.

I have played Deadlight but didn't finish it way back in the day, will give Never Alone try. It has very positive reviews on Steam but i don't either of these games are Metroid style game but still good games nevertheless.

I am not quite a fan of metroidvania games but here are few suggestions.

You might want to try a few games in the wonderboy series. "Wonderboy in Monster World" and "Monster World 4" (translated) both meet the metroidvania criterion I think. If you play on emulation make sure to play on emulator with integer scaling (on top of preserving aspect ratio). There is also a new game coming in the series "Monsterboy and the Cursed Kingdom".

There is also a "Magical Pop'n" and "Popful Mail" on SNES. Not sure how good the latter one is or whether it has been translated. However, I did like Magical Pop'n (the only freeworld style platformer that I have enjoyed till now), but didn't finish it (because finishing in one sitting becomes a bit too tiresome and the game doesn't have a save system). Might be a good idea to complete it level by level (using emulation save).

Also, I think the castlevania games on DS are pretty decent, but didn't play them much.
