Well in my opinion with the recent sucess of GTAV, Ubisoft want to enhance their game to meet up to the expectations of the gamers and some major enhancement is being carried out in their workshop......

[h=1]Why Delaying Watch Dogs was an 'Intense Decision' for Ubisoft[/h]

While the highly-anticipated Watch Dogs had the chance to be one of the biggest games of 2013 and one of the most purchased products on the newly-released platforms, Ubisoft recently went on record discussing the difficulty in delaying the game – something the studio now refers to as an "intense decision".

Speaking to IGN about the company's stance on delaying games in general, Ubisoft's North American president Laurent Detoc recalled the period of time leading up to the Watch Dogs delay announcement and how reaction was gauged both internally and externally.

“It’s a very intense decision,” Detoc said in a recently-published interview with IGN. “I think one of the fascinating things about this industry is that you can go from genius to idiot in an extremely short time frame. These are some of those moments, where you’re riding sky high on Watch Dogs or Rayman, and then suddenly you have to break it to the outside world, and sometimes even convince the inside people. Not everybody agrees. You have to say, ‘this is in the best interest of the product, to do this,’ because at the end of the day we’re going to be able to do this extra fine tuning.”

He went on to discuss the abruptness of the delay announcement and address the fact that, when considering the game's targeted launch date of late November, it came as both a surprise and a necessary evil to all involved. “I’ll tell you, at Gamescom (in August 2013), everybody was looking each other in the eye thinking we would be there at launch,” Detoc said. “There were already some lingering doubts, but we were plowing through it. There were more than a thousand people touching that game. Then eventually, a month later, we said, ‘this is not gonna fly.’ Then it takes a few more weeks to decide how we’re going to package that news for everyone. It’s not just about delaying for the sake of delaying it. No matter how hard we try, we also put out games that are not good quality, unfortunately. It’s not because we go out and say, ‘great, let’s make a piece of junk and put it out there.’ It’s really painful to us. But some games, you just can’t make them that much better because of how they’ve been progressing. Part of the decision to delay Watch Dogs is also that. We know it’s not where we want it to be. Can it get there? What will it take to get there? That’s why it takes a longer process. But in August we really thought we were going to have that game at launch.”

Now that the game is on track for a Spring 2014 release, expectations are sky high and drawing comparisons to a certain open-world franchise that managed to make the most of Watch Dog's absence in the fall 2013 release calendar. “I actually believe that Watch Dogs could have ended up being the best-rated game on next gen if it came out at launch. We wanted it to be even higher,” said Detoc. “The whole package is there already. But without sending them too many flowers, the guys at Rockstar have showed us again that if you make a 96-percent game, people will come. Watch Dogs, I can only hope we get to that level. There’s an attachment to the brand, in the case of GTA, that makes people really want to give it that 100-percent review. We’ll be missing that on Watch Dogs until we go further, potentially. That’s what we’re after.”

[h=1]Is Watch Dogs Wii U Cancelled? GameStop Italy Pulls Preorders [Update: US too?][/h]

People who have preordered Watch Dogs for the Wii U at GameStop Italy may have noticed their copies being cancelled. Wiitalia reports that GameStop has pulled preorders for the Wii U version, also noting that the specific version is no longer in GameStop's database.

A GameStop employee told a customer that the Wii U version has been scrapped when asked why the order cannot be fulfilled. Joystiq has asked for comment from Ubisoft and received a reply: "We have nothing to comment at this stage."

If true, last week's Nintendo forecasts may have played a part in the cancellation. Sales projections for the Wii U console were drastically cut for the fiscal year.

VG247 notes that GAME retail stores haven't heard of any cancellation yet and are still taking preorders for Watch Dogs on Wii U. Shopto is still currently taking preorders as well.
Watch Dogs was previously set to release in November 2013 before being delayed to Spring 2014. It is currently slated for PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PC, and Wii U.

Update: A response from GameStop Italy's customer service told Joystiq this: "This information is wrong, tomorrow the reservation of Watch Dogs will restart."

Update 2: Kotaku is now reporting, through a reliable source, that GameStop in the US is also cancelling preorders for the Wii U version. But as GameStop Italy customer service replied to Joystiq, it's possible that GameStop is just refreshing the Wii U version in their systems. We won't know for sure until Ubisoft clarifies.

[h=1]Despite Watch Dogs Abandoned Trademark Shenanigans, Game is "Still Being Polished" [Update][/h]

This morning, it was discovered, by way of NeoGAF user Rösti, that Ubisoft has filed to abandon the Watch Dogs trademark. It's unclear what Ubisoft intends to do, but its filing to "express abandonment" pertains to the following:

Game software and electronic game programs, namely, software games recorded on CD-ROM and digital video discs for computers; software games recorded on CD-ROMs, digital video discs, and cartridges for console and individual, portable gaming systems; software games that are downloadable from a remote computer site and electronic game software for mobile phones, personal digital assistants, and handheld computers.

There's no reason to panic just yet. It doesn't mean that the game is cancelled, which was originally slated for release in November 2013 but pushed back to Spring 2014. According to Ubisoft Montreal on Twitter, the game is currently being polished.

Fenwick and West IP litigation specialist Jed Wakefield told Polygon that Ubisoft's decision to abandon one of six trademarks could mean that Ubisoft intends to reapply the trademark with a new description.
"Sometimes people withdraw trademark applications as part of a resolution of a dispute of someone else using a trademark," Wakefield said. "It could be other people who own trademarks involving the term 'Watch Dogs' or other kinds of software might have reached out and expressed concerns. Or it could mean the way they're actually releasing the game would mean they couldn't come up with specimens of use that would meet the description in that particular application."

Whatever the abandonment means, Ubisoft Montreal is still developing the game and intends to ship the game later this year for PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Wii U.

Update: Well this explains it. It appears the file to abandon was fraudulent, according to a new filing today.

On February 1, 2014, Ubisoft Entertainment received an email from [email protected] notifying Ubisoft Entertainment that a Request for Express Abandonment had been filed in connection with Application Serial No. 85642398. The Request for Express Abandonment purports to be signed by the Chief Executive Officer of Ubisoft Entertainment, Yves Guillemot.
Mr. Guillemot, however, did not sign the Request for Express Abandonment, nor did Ubisoft Entertainment file the Request for Express Abandonment. The Request for Express Abandonment is fraudulent and was not filed by Ubisoft Entertainment or its representative.
As of this filing, the Office has not yet issued a Notice of Abandonment.

Ubisoft has issued this statement to Polygon: "We are working directly with the USPTO on reinstating the trademark for Watch Dogs and it will be active again in the coming days. The matter has no impact on the Watch Dogs' development."

Ubisoft has just confirmed in their earning release that Watch Dogs will launch sometime in between April-June 2014. Watch Dogs was initially schedule to launch as launch title for both Playstation 4 and Xbox One but was delayed due to some unknown reason.

Ubisoft at that time stated that development team needs some extra time on Watch Dogs for polishing. Whatever happened in the past is over, its good to know that Ubisoft has finally zero-down of a particular release window for Watch Dogs, one of the most awaited and highly anticipated new IP of 2014.
In addition to this, Ubisoft also confirmed that Wii U version of Watch Dogs version will release later this year.

Ubisoft have revealed during their Watch Dogs press conference that the game will run on the following resolutions and framerate for next gen systems:

  • PS4: 1080p/30fps
  • Xbox One: 960p/30fps
  • PC: up to 4K/framerate varies

Follow@DJPork ;) Don't worry I played PC and then PS4 and PS4 isn't giving its place. Just read the articles, they all played on PS4.

Comparision: old vs new build :

Let’s start with some good news. Ubisoft has implemented some new smoke particles that will remind you those of The Division. Truth be told, this is an upgrade from the old version in which there weren’t any ‘in_your_face’ smoke effects. There is no doubt that the updated smoke effects are better than those featured in the previous versions of the game.

Moreover, the faces seem to be just as good as those featured in both the E3 2012 and the June 2013 builds when you are pretty close – if not identical – to them.

Unfortunately, the latest builds seem to be lacking a lot of physics effects that were previously demonstrated. For example, in the E3 2012 build the environment was more ‘real’. Trees and umbrellas were swaying, something that cannot be noticed in both the June 2013 and the latest build. While there are some objects flying around in the June 2013 build, we can easily see that trees are not affected by the wind.

What’s also discouraging is the fact that the explosions have been severely dumbed down (in both visual and physics terms). In the initial E3 2012 there were a lot of debris from the explosions. Not only that, but in the E3 2012 build we could clearly notice the vehicles (environmental objects) being affected by the explosion. Compared to the E3 2012 build, the explosions in the latest builds feel rather weak and unimpressive.

Furthermore, the city feels lifeless in the latest trailer. We don’t know whether Ubisoft decided to reduce the pedestrian count or whether the company chose ‘bad’ timezones. The point is that the city feels empty.

As if that wasn’t enough, it seems that Ubisoft has completely removed the anamorphic lens flares from the game. We don’t know whether there will be an option to enable them but they were surely not present in the latest trailer.

Last but not least, there was an interesting Bokeh ‘bloom bleeding’ filter while entering bullet time mode in the E3 2012 build that affected the game’s overall lighting while firing. Unfortunately, that filter was replaced with a simpler one in the June 2013 build.

Before closing, Gamespot played the PS4 version of the game and streamed it online. And here is a comparison between the current PS4 version of Watch Dogs and the E3 2012 build.

All in all, this latest trailer for Watch Dogs looks definitely worse than its initial E3 2012 reveal. Due to the nature of those trailers (different weather plus different timezones) we can’t really comment on the lighting system, though we have to say that the latest build features reflections similar to those of the initial E3 2012 build (there are some scenes in which you can notice the reflections).

Xbox one getting the short stick again.
