They brought me a new ONT, then they couldn't configure it, so they took it back, and brought me the same old ONT again and that worked fine.
The Fiber guy in Bahria came to my house, left his Optical Power Meter with me, went to the Fiber cabinet (MSAG), altered the optical power to a value which was required, meanwhile I was reading out the values to him over the phone till it got to the right one and I then unplugged the meter and reconnected the ONT which picked up an IP Address instantly.
[MENTION=11094]StrikerX[/MENTION] After asking and asking, they finally listened. The way I used to log in to the ONT was with 'userAdmin' as the username and the default password. Limited controls over everything, not much to do, he gave me another username to use 'AdminGPON' which gave me full control of whatever I want to change in the ONT, he said they don't ever give it out to customers, but because I'm probably the most annoying customer they've ever come across in their lives, they agreed and now I can do stuff. lol.

I'm in Bahria Town, Phase 2 (right next to Ace Academy). I've been battling with a bad PTCL broadband connection for years, now reaching to a point where I'm having it uninstalled. This post is my last attempt and again trying to figure out whats happening with my broad band connection.

The problem: Frequent disconnections, low SNR Margins.

But it gets much more interesting. The SNR Margins are close to perfect in the morning (26 to 28). They start dropping in the afternoon around 2:30 pm and towards the evening, the internet pretty much becomes unusable for anything (disconnection after every two minutes)

What I've done till now:
With the help of the line man, I have have installed a new wire from all the way the DP outside the house, which comes straight in to the DSL modem inside the house. There are no joints in between. The line man has also recently refreshed the joints on the DP (node 1) outside the house, and also the distribution box (node 2) on the service road of Phase 2. As per my limited understanding, these are the only 2 nodes involved between my modem and the PTCL exchanged. The dropped SNR Margins get better very late at night. At times 2 am or 3 am. I have tried new DSL Modems, different DSL Modems, but the problem remains. There is occasional noise in the Telephone line but the nature of the noise is very abrupt. At times there is lots of it and at times there is none of it at all.

I have engaged PTCL guys and bahria services guys on several instances and no body can figure out what seems to be the problem with my broadband connection, other than the fact that it just may be haunted .

One theory is that maybe there is a line break between DP and the Distribution box, or the Distribution box and the exchange. But if that is the case, why would the SNR margins be all good in the morning? They should be permanently low.

I don't have fiber services available here. I spoke to the Assistant Manager looking after the deployment of Fiber services, he very honestly told me that this area is at least 4 to 5 months away from having the GPON services available.

Would love to hear your thoughts on this.

Have you forced the connection on G.DMT or does it switch to that itself?

Try going back to ADSL2+ and see what happens.

If there was a line break between the ONU and the pole, you'd have bad service all day.

To be honest, if all these things aren't helping, the ONU is probably outdated. The one in Phase 1 was as well and after enough complaints, they did eventually replace it and now stuff is back to normal. I had a 12 Mbps DSL connection until last August and it worked quite well even with an SNR of 10.1 dB.

In the screenshot you posted, the attainable rate sucks and your attenuation is a bit too high.

Yes ONU is the big box.

Ask him to change your pair and file complaints again and again for noisy phone line.

Also, the wire from the DP to your house was replaced, what about the wire from your gate to the inside of the house?


If all else fails, lines in Phase 2 are crap. They're the same here in Phase 1 so I'm not surprised.

Ace Academy has a 16 Mbps DSL connection and half the time they're facing disconnection issues too.

dunno what crap ptcl pulled now and am unable to download game updates for my ps4 games, the actual game download works fine etc but whenever a game update pops it starts for a bit and halts and gives error of corrupted data, same as when a ps4 shutsdown on loadshedding illegally etc !

now one can say it could be the ps4 but happening on three four ps4s so it aint the console but some crap by ptcl alright

anyone else experiencing this with ptcl and ps4 game updates ?

I've seen so many people with this issue but I haven't ever had this problem with PTCL.
Updates download perfectly fine for me.

Do you use Static IP and custom DNS on the PS4 or have you just let it grab those automatically from the router/modem?

Best you can do is reset your system. It'd erase all your data and you're gonna have to download it again (unless you back it up, but either way, you're gonna have to log-in to your accounts again, which can be a problem for someone like me, who's forgotten their PS Plus account's password). But there's a good chance it'll fix the data corrupted error. I'd advise you to take my advice with a grain of salt, however, seeing as it hasn't worked for some people.
You could also change ISP, but if the first solution helps, it'd be fairly more convenient.

Aside from resetting the PS4, he can get into safe mode, and do that Rebuild Database thing, it takes forever (Power outages will f*ck everything up), but it fixes everything for most.

Ahhh, now you made me want to go back to BF4

As far as I know, rebuilding database clears all the temporary files, clears cache, etc. I could be wrong, however, and it's worth a try.

Well i have problem which happened yeaterday Lights went out as a result of electricity fluctuation and when it came back the wifi network kept asking for wifi key although it was saved already i restarted the modem and yet again it kept asking for wifi key i tried access it with my laptop same result kept asking for wifi key although it was saved
Due to which i decided to connect it via lan and went to router setting i checked the wifi pass it was restored to default i changed back the password what it was before
Now then the adsl link is green internet is connect but still i can't access the internet through wifi or lan
I blv the electricity fluctuation must have done something so what should i do now?

i have all games digital so don't want to go through dlding like 500 600 gigs of games man

i did try the google dns thing didn't help, now static ip ptcl aholes ask 500rs and than 300rs every month extra

No no, not that Static IP, I mean a local one from your router to the PS4.

The weird part is, I tried Google DNS, OpenDNS and even Level3 and they all kinda suck on the PS4, the only ones that work fine are the PTCL ones that I typed myself:

Primary: 182.176.100.141
Secondary: 39.39.39.39

Never had issues after changing to this. Try it out and let me know.

Will ptcl ever going to reduce bandwidth charges and make 8 mb connection affordable to the masses been stuck on 4 mb since ages and it feels more like a shitty dialup nowadays! The lucky people where fiber is available are enjoying far cheaper bandwidth rates then ptcl .

Log into modem.

On the left, click Device Info > Statistics > xDSL

Saying you have the CharJi router is very vague lol, all their new modems have the CharJi logo on them.
