Why would ftth use adsl modems? You said above that they work with PTCL modems.
Since he mentioned they're using one of the 4 LAN ports, they're probably using old modems as APs.

I think these press releases can be tolerated as long as they have 4G coverage everywhere and respectable speed.
They may have coverage, but the speed is not respectable at all.

Zong posts new press releases way too often, but there hasn't been any noticeable improvement in quality of service.

They do have respectable 4G speed overall. Every company has highs and lows. If Zong is bad in Islamabad Jazz is shit in Faisalabad. But at least thier 4G fullfils need.
And Zong's speed is bound to get hurt when near about half of mobile data traffic goes through a single network e.g Zong.

پچھلے دنوں میں میرے علاقہ میں زونگ کی سپیڈ کافی سلو تھی رات 8 بجے کے لیکن اب بلکل ٹھیک ھو گئ ہے

If we go by their previous rollout speed when they 'upgraded' 4G after the Warid merger, we can see this being available in a year from now.
I think you mean two years.

Also,
1. The app in the screenshot is the old version of Speed test. Somebody needs to update their phone.
2. That's what you call a lab test. Yesterday, in good signal and CA (both streams had 60dBm or so, and the phone said LTE-A), I got a maximum of 80Mbps (or around 12MB/s).

What did I get in the earlier days? The same. And I'm in Blue Area.

Can someone actually force their phone onto band 8 and test the speeds?

The phone itself is quite old. The last time Asif posted a 100 Mbps LTE screenshot (when they were rolling out 15 MHz Band 3) it was from the same old phone, presumably a Samsung Galaxy S5 or Note 4 since it seems to be running Android KitKat or Lollipop.

They should really use newer devices in lab testing.

I could try using my other phone to force B8 LTE, but it's not available here in Bahria yet. Still getting 900 MHz 3G here.

You guys should be thankfull that they have started from Islamabad this time. We people in Faisalabad getting 3G speed on Jazz 4G, it should have been started here first.

Telenor does... Doesn't it... Kinda sorta?

Sent from my Pixel 2 using Tapatalk
Well.... it was just a press release.

There's no mention of it on their website or anywhere else. Guess it's not ready for rollout...

So... new from Telenor is that they'll for the first time focus on urban expansion and coverage (Goal for 2019). Telenor currently has one of the lowest urban market penetration and has solely focused on rural market (major chunk of telenor) in the past. Plan is to target 15 major cities first for improvement i.e rwp/lahore/karachi/fsd/gujranwala/gujrat etc

This was basically the key take away from TP's technology town hall.

Funny now that you mention it, I asked the exact same question yesterday and yup! VoLTE is working (manual flashing of firmware with TP's VoLTE params) BUT manufacturer's haven't rolled out the firmware update for that yet. If and when they do that is a million $$$ question so no commercial launch of VoLTE for now.

On which phone though? [emoji102]

Makes me wonder if other companies are taking a different approach to launching VoLTE. Perhaps they've also conducted trials, but are awaiting software updates from OEMs, after which they'll launch it officially, and then have it readily available on a handful of phones.

As for Telenor focusing on urban expansion, that's good to hear, but unfortunately not much they can do with the extremely limited spectrum.

Sadly, killing off 2G entirely is still many years away for Pakistan.

Urban expansion: I think they intend to set up more towers so that the coverage isn't as sparse (vis-a-vis other operators).

I wonder what made them change their minds. Maybe their ARPU was stalling. Or maybe they woke up 15 years late.

The main reason could have been Revenue. Telenor's major revenue was coming from call packages from rural areas. But you cannot rely on a single segment for life. Their data revenue is lowest among all even when they have cheapest data packages, people do not rely on Telenor for data. Their 4G is not even capable to run 360 quality youtube videos.
Zong is getting major chunk of Pie following Jazz in terms of data revenue. And Telenor is on the loosing end on both call and data segments.

You mean flashing a custom rom with telenor's params will work ? But why telenor cannot launch an app instead to make calls on 4g like jio did ?

No, not a custom rom.

There is no short answer to the last part of your post as too much red tape involved and there was an experimental app just for that and maybe still is but lets just say, not easy without spending a significant amount of money.

PC Gamer score of 58/100 for Hellblade 2??? Is it really worse than Gollum that was 64/100? Microsoft games can't even come close to high scores of Sony exclusives apparently.

About the Microsoft (and Sony) debate, I feel both have become too greedy and losing their minds over corporate greed. Personally, I will never buy any console next gen and switch to PC gaming where democracy reins.
