Surprise from Jazz
zafarabbasrizvi only 3 MHz of Band 8 since they don't want to abandon 2G entirely just yet.

Although, they do have 12.4 MHz total spectrum in B8, so they can easily afford to use 5 MHz bandwidth instead.

It is in a testing phase right now I believe. So wait and watch what they finally do. If they will go with 5 MHz, they are are interested to further boost their speed. And only only 3 MHz, it will indicate that they only want to cover loose 4G coverage parts with low frequency with existing cell sites.

This means they only want to improve coverage, not quality. BTW was it showing 4G+?

A little Offtopic.

Mediacom Cable Network Faisalabad which has its cable TV services in 90% areas of the city launched FTTH internet services last year with Ebone internet services Karachi from its back.

Yesterday Mediacom replaced Ebone with new partner WorldCall from backend. Mediacom already has FTTH coverage in 50% areas of the city. And they have target to reach 90% areas till December 2019.

Local Loop Holders of Mediacom Cable TV also has right/responsibility to expand coverage and provide after sale services. So your cable guy will be there in 30 minutes in case of any cable related fault (never happened in my 6 month experience).

PTCL is struggling big times in the city because of Mediacom. People with existing PTCL connections are opting for Mediacom. People are holding PTCL's one month bill and paying it for Mediacom connection charges, because Mediacom is more reliable (FTTH) and cheap to afford. And it runs on PTCL's modems as well. So no modem charges as well for users coming from PTCL.

Packges with unlimited data and including all taxes.

2 Mbps 1000
4 Mbps 1500
6 Mbps 2000
8 Mbps 2500
12 Mbps 3000 (Unlimted usage, Including All Taxes)

I have some salam dua with cable guy, so I am paying 1700 for 6 Mbps and speed remains constant 24/7.

FTTH doesn't use modems. It uses ONTs or fiber to ethernet converters. Either way, how can they use PTCL equipment?
They are not using. They need a modem. If some one does not have any, they give him a TP Link or Tenda's modem. Otherwise settings can be madenon any company's modem including PTCL

Umm... Guys? More evidence of carrier aggregation:

I can't measure the spectrum amount (but I'd assume it's 3Mhz) and haven't tested the speeds yet, since where I am right now, the speeds won't be that good anyway.

Edit: speeds are nothing to write home about:

Edit 2: the RSRQ value for 1800Mhz has gone down, and speed on the CA signal isn't exceeding 5Mbps (I'm at work, and the earlier screenshots were taken today, on the same seat).

I wonder how things will work out for these guys.

This is the second Zong press release I've seen where they boast about some new game changing tech on their cell-sites, but they never mention any specifics, as to which cities they've installed these upgrades in, and so far nobody has posted about Zong's B1+B3 LTE-A from anywhere other than Lahore and a few places in Karachi.

It's all marketing fluff, in an attempt to remain relevant.

Because these guys tend to have the most press releases of zero value as well (Ufone, Telenor and Mobilink don't have as many in comparison).

I think these press releases can be tolerated as long as they have 4G coverage everywhere and respectable speed. Jazz got speed but shitiest 4G coverage. Telenor is Meera Ji of telecom industry. Popular and always in the news, but for wrong reasons.

Only Zong is in position to fully deploy VoLTE at the moment in Pakistan (God knows why they still haven't launched). Others are only doing Dramay Baazi.

Why would ftth use adsl modems? You said above that they work with PTCL modems.

They use it only for routing I think. They put wire in one of four big ports.
