These Final Hours (2013)

I love surprises like this.

This is a small budget Australian movie about an end-of-the-world story. A large asteroid impact somewhere in the Atlantic Ocean results in an extinction level wave of destruction making its way across the world. Australia has several hours before it is completely destroyed. People there go bat shit crazy, and amongst the chaos, a self-obsessed man decides to meet the end in an end-of-the-world party but along the way, he finds a little girl and decides to help her, changing him in the process.

Nathan Phillips, the lead, did a great job as this lost man in this unreal situation, trying to find an easy way to let it all go and meet the end. The little girl was also really good as lost child trying to get to her father and they both had a nice relationship that grew over the course of the movie and makes you care about both of them.

The movie has a somber and hopeless feel/look and the opening scene sets it perfectly. The accompanying score is ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC. The main theme plays in different variations in couple other scenes, particularly the ending, and whenever it's on, it makes the scene so much more engrossing. Composer Cornel Wilczek really did a great job with it.

Now I was not expecting this movie to move me the way it did, in certain scenes. There are a couple of them sprinkled throughout and they were just great.

My issues with the film is that the party part of the movie bogged it down for me because it went on for too long IMO and some of the acting there was either too over the top by supporting cast or just not that good.

All in all, a great end of the world story with an interesting premise, strong lead performances and beautiful score. Definitely a must watch.

8/10

Green Room (2015)

Green Room is a movie about a young small-time band getting a gig in some shady place and they find themselves in a sticky situation there after accidentally witnessing a murder.

I thought this will be another run of the mill slasher gore-fest flick where stupid kids die one by one, but was pleasantly surprised to see the execution. I mean the story is what you'd expect from such film, and the basic formula is similar, but the way they presented and flowed it was somewhat refreshing. The flow of the movie was its defining part for me. It felt natural, giving the situation a realistic feel and creating an ever present feel of tension when things go down.

The movie wasn't super violent or gore-y just for the sake of it either. It was a bit tamed, and the way violence was presented made you feel uneasy, like it should. And being named as 'Green Room', there was an overall green tint in the visuals, a nice touch.

Some of the acting was really good, like from Anton Yelchin (Rest in Peace) and Imogen Poots, AND of course Patrick Stewart as the main villain. Wish he had more scenes being all evil and stuff.

But some of the other cast wasn't always good. And of course, character make stupid decisions, some that feel fine considering the situation while some were just plain dumb. And with the movie focusing on providing realism, there were scenes which felt totally off from it, breaking the immersion and tension and taking me out of the movie for that duration, which is a shame as if those scenes weren't present, this could have been a solid great watch.

Still, it is enjoyable nonetheless. And if you are into these types of movies, then I definitely recommend it.

7.5/10

Suicide Squad

So Finally, Watched it last night at Super Cinema Vogue Tower. It was a fun movie. Will Smith & Margot Robbie stole the show their acting and character was awesome. I was expecting stylish and different kind of action with that kind of characters especially with Katana but still it was OK. Most of the action scene depends on shooting because of Deadshot and Harley. JOKER was cool i would like to see him in next batman movie. Waste of killer croc and boomerang. I hate how it ends it seems like a bit kiddish to me. Overall it was entertaining.
Great but not Perfect 7.5 / 10.

Spoiler: show

BTW, i started Ghost of Tsushima, and it got me hooked within the first couple of minutes. I already know It's gonna be a memorable experience. This is how you make a proper Samurai game. Not that SJW game Ubisoft is making.

That's still higher than it's total play length. A 5 hour campaign for a $50 game is downright scammy.

Consoles were my main platform ever since Atari 2500. But now I think it's not worth it as PC especially with DLSS deliver far smoother performance. AW2 on console didn't even had ray tracing and ran below 30fps. Similar issues plagues DD2 on consoled.
The cross gen era really made people think 60fps would be a new standard lol

I have a PS5 but I am not satisfied with the experience. I am currently saving for a 4080 64 GB rig soon. Bit will wait for Pro if performance improves. This gen has been so bad I don't plan on buying consoles anymore for AAA gaming.

Both PS and Xbox have been a flop this gen as they can barely maintain 30 fps in a lot of AAA games th.

  • L LegacyGamerGuy:
As per WCCF Tech review, Xbox Series X doesn't even maintain a consistent FPS and sometimes drops into the mid-20fps range. That's unacceptable, tbh.

Score 1 for game pass. I wouldn't pay full price for this at retail either.

Just downloaded my first legit digital PC game on GoG at a discount of $8: Two Point Hospital. The same team behind Theme Hospital Two Point Studios now part of Sega. And I am having more fun than most recent AAA games except of course BG3.

Still, I don't like either Sony or Microsoft as they are focusing more on corporate greed than delighting customers. PC gaming is best of gaming and worth every penny.

PC Gamer score of 58/100 for Hellblade 2??? Is it really worse than Gollum that was 64/100? Microsoft games can't even come close to high scores of Sony exclusives apparently.

About the Microsoft (and Sony) debate, I feel both have become too greedy and losing their minds over corporate greed. Personally, I will never buy any console next gen and switch to PC gaming where democracy reins.
