Disoppointed realy was expecting much more but was left with lame story and concept, lame action sequences and half baked dialogues could have been a better movie some acenes were goood that pathan guy acted good and ladies in the movie were used badly could have done better with them
And i couldn't hear most of the dialogues and make a movie in english or in urdu not with 3 languages
4/10
Thank you for not letting me get disappointed from O21. Jokes and funny moments let India Pak movies float, without them these movies drown deep.

EDGE OF TOMORROW (2014)

"Full Metal Abuses will lead to ban"

"An enemy who knows the future, can't lose." And what if the enemy is Alien Mimics? Well, then you are destined to get f*cked ... *kevin-hart-style* All Day. Every Day. Just you, by yourself. At the beach, holding down, Trying to race, straight face. NOT A GAME Gentlemen. Aliens Cheat. Resetting the day every time they are about to lose. Alien Niggerz. Like a gawdamn Thug.

Live.Die.Repeat tag line is enough to explain what Edge of Tomorrow exactly is. I am not gonna talk about the Rules of the game here, or how a 'Major' Deserter (Tom Cruise) steals the Mimic's hive mind Omega's power, and resets the day. But the way he turns the tide following countless resets, to defeat the enemy, Countless resets, watching his companions die, Countless resets, in failure, Countless resets, of Sorrow, watching someone 'he'd-wished-to-not-know, but did', die ... Even for a movie, this is a Magnet, to start caring for its characters. And if Emily Blunt is the 'Full Metal Abuses will lead to ban', then you better have some love in your eyes because nothing can stop the high-powered romance discreet romance between the two.

Spoiler: show
Basically, Kill the Blue Mimic, and Omega will reset the day, because this alien has access to Omega's nervous system. And Cage (Cruise) does kill one accidentally, with a claymore 'in his face'. Blue Mimic's blood transferred its ability to him, and Omega resets the day ... for the first time, with Cruise (a new host for it). After that, 'movie' happens. The ending is whats confusing some. I am just gonna copy a random comment from internet to ease your pain ... "When he absorbs the Omega's blood in Paris it's the night before the big assault so, following the established rules, he jumps back a day which would be during the helicopter ride to meet the General". There is no "tricks" involved. Its as simple as it is.

A couple of key moments, and some i loved the most:
Spoiler: show

- The moment where Cage does shoot himself while confronting that Blue Mimic but nothing happens, so he dies by drowning himself.
- Everytime Cage meets with the J-Squad, and he was a new man every time. Awesome FUN seeing him 'try every possible attitude'.
- I have having the laugh of my life everytime she shoots Cage in the head, or takes out her gun to do it.
- "Have you tried 'all' the options"? How many times?
- "Never been with 2 girls at same time" argument. Hm, Logical.

Beach scene is such a lively, intense, and stimulating experience. It makes sense because we visit that area many times after a Reset. Not only that, the 'feeling' that whole world is at war seemed authentic. The 'threat' could be felt packing maximum danger. Thanks to those scary Mimic Punks. Have to say Mimic are well thought out, and well made. Its not often when we see the threat so ... intimidating and frigging dangerous. Praise the CGI involved, which made them ... well, READ. YIKES. Also, all the metal Exoskeleton action was just bad ass, especially when the AW3200 guns come into action. Fantastic CGI, plus satisfying battleground setting. "No courage without fear".

Its a Perfect blend of dark humor, romance and science fiction. The actors deserve the most praise. Tom Cruise is so brilliantly committed to his characters, as he has been in Oblivion (2013), Jack Reacher (2012). His consistency is admirable. Emily Blunt was as powerful and strong as Cruise. I can respect that both actor struggled hard waring those metal suits, and Emily for one trained for 3 months to get in shape. Not to mention, the beautiful chemistry and engaging relationship both share together on screen.

The very idea of Edge of Tomorrow is fascinating ... and above all its made SO SIMPLE to understand and digest that you don't waste time in "trying to figure it out". No tricks to make it unnecessarily complex. End Result is nothing but EXTREME FUN. There was a grin on my face ALL the time, and after seeing the end, which thankfully wasn't overly dramatic, but had good emotional side to it ... i had nothing but a round of applause for it. FRIGGING LOVED IT. L.O.V.E.D. IT.

Deep down, i still hate the use of Shaky Cams, and that is what stops you from having steady orgasms while watching Edge of Tomorrow. I also didn't like the fact that the movie becomes "darker", I mean Literally. Due to 'night time', it was difficult to 'clearly' see what was happening. Apart from these two minor ... hiccups, i don't have any complaints. Because the fun was still Tremendous.

Last but not the least, this movie gives me hope that PG13 rated movies can still be hell of a fun. It doesn't have to be vulgar, overly erotic/sexy, or memento/inception level difficult to be THIS awesome. This is FUN. This is ULTIMAT Entertainment. This is ... REMARKABLE. 10/10 Its a movie that I'd watch again and again for many months, and would still not get bored.
I had a great time watching this movie. Very good funny scenes also. Many spoilers in your review without spoiler tags.

Watched O21 and found it to be a real mixed bag. Have a question from those who watched it because I didn't get a couple of things. (Don't open the spoiler if you haven't watched the movie)

Spoiler: show
If Ayub Khoso had hidden the chip in the table at the cafe, why even bring Shaan into the picture at all? Was it just an elaborate distraction? Didn't make much sense to me. Plus you don't need to give the memory card to anyone physically. Instead of wasting his time watching Katrina Kaif pics on his laptop he could have emailed the info to a 100 people all over the world or posted the damn thing on the the internet (even a thread in the chit chat cafe would have served :p). But for some reason he simply had to hand it over to the female journalist while sitting in a cafe.

Personally, I liked the first half of the movie. It was slow but more believable. In the second half they turned Shaan into a typical bollywood action hero which was not in line with the overall tone of the film. The action sequences were rather bad and not really needed. It would have been better if they had made it into a spy/political thriller completely instead of adding the pointless action/romance parts. Also a better actor could have played Shamoon Abbassi's role.

Pakistan should do movies like "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy". Give us a feel of how authentic espionage works. Over the top action is mimicking Bollywood and it is lame particularly when achieved with a low budget.

I was thinking the same thing.

We need to focus on our own stories, and there is plenty of potential to make movies out of them. A lot of weird incidents happen in Pakistan too, and the film makers can spin them as "Based on a true story" here in Pakistan.

For an example, I would love to see a film based on the terrorists digging the tunnel to free their friends from the Jail in Karachi. Some genuis director can make a Zero Dark Thirty type of movie beginning with an investigation about such an activity, leading into some clues, hollywood style mystery, suspense and drama, and finally concluding with the capture of these terrorists. Would make for a damn good movie, that's for sure :p

^Sure you wouldn't fall asleep twice watching such a film? :p

I'm frankly getting tired of Pakistani film-makers exploiting the terrorism angle and addressing social issues. Iranian cinema is our film industry's inspiration of late but even the Persians make funny and interesting movies involving a simple plot.

There are other spy-related movies other than Tinker Tailer Spy :p. So yeh, I wasn't talking about that one solely.

The problem with making a "simple movie" (or art as I call it) is that they need to sell them in Pakistan too. There are not enough independent film makers here that are capable of such a feat (having budget for a movie + getting it in cinemas) and it is a high risk project. Someone needs to lead on this front. This can happen if an indie movie here gets international fame and recognition.

We are still in beginning stage of revival , it will take time first we need to capture those Pakistanis who still go for Bollywood over lolly wood then we need to go towards pure dramatic type movies

I agree the first was was slow but better. The 2nd half had 'pacing' problems. But everything wraps up pretty neatly in the end.The attack at Shaan character's house was a badly edited. But the movie climax where Shaan gets his hands on a sniper rifle was pretty awesome actually as to how he picks apart the characters in the scene. The film is a very good attempt by pakistani standards. You think at this stage the film makers would risk making a pure espionage political spy thriller when the industry is in it's infancy and people are already opting to watch NMA over O21 simply because it's a more dialogue driven film and lacks the action (hence low entertainment).A pure espionage political thriller would bomb badly at the box office.

I agree, but i guess films like O21 or WAAR for that matter need our support as they are MILES ahead of typical bollywood films. It's just a start of a 'serious cinema'.Who knows we might be getting better films.Personally we have so many subject matters to cover on.For instance a biopic on M.M. Alam would be incredible with 'Top Gun' style dog fight sequences.Another film on a darker subject could be a biopic on the serial killer 'Javed Iqbal'.The film on a serial killer could be visually inspired by recent south-korean murder thrillers like 'I saw the devil' or 'The Chaser'.We have our own original stories and content.

I think they already took a huge risk by making o21 the way they made it and it has bombed at the box office because most of the people were expecting another waar. Also I think the producers would have been aware that this movie wouldn't appeal to masses so it was aimed more at international awards and competitions anyway. That is why I think if they had taken the risk they should have taken it all the way because it ended up being neither here nor there. It was a bold experiment and should be supported but the execution was a little too flawed for me.

saw premiere show of "ANNABELLE" at dha cinema tonight

before the conjuring, there was ANNABELLE !

so saw the premiere show, i was quite hyped to see this as i pretty much really liked conjuring and especially wanted to see annabelle's backstory since this movie was aimed at the DOLL where as conjuring was a tease to it.

anyways the movie starts off like any other movie etc new couple etc new house wife pregnant and so... the movie suddenly goes into thrill mode lol like 15 minutes into and its like that from there on. sometimes its a bit draggy here and there but when the horror/thrill scenes start man oh man, the cinema crowd was excited and the scenes really did made u jump man hehe.. great horror scenes when they did came.

about the story resemblance too

Spoiler: show
since its from james wan, the story and demon talk was typical to insidious, same old demons trying to take souls and not taken human form ever etc u know, same demons etc from insidious etc

for the story i'd rate it 6.5 and for the scare scenes 8.5/10 ( those were some good thrill scenes man :) a bit more revealing than the conjuring here.

Rating overall: 7/10

PLANES: FIRE & RESCUE (2014)
"Rawr!!"

The underdog Dusty Crophopper is back, with a faulty Gearbox, which is no longer in Production. TMST. 'This means serious trouble'. Racing career seems over so he is off to become a fire fighter. 'This is so exciting I am gonna overheat' ... not. "I’ve got gas" ... seeing another unwanted sequel of Planes (2013). Thats it with the bashing, because they explicitly said last year, that Planes will be a Trilogy.

I kinda like the fact that this sequel still has a clear message to deliver, and its a good one too. Fire fighters. "When others fly OUT, Heroes fly IN". Where there shall be fire, shall be Trees, Water ... and assholes (the Superintendent of the Lodge). :ninja: Piston Peak wasn't breath taking, but given the setting of the movie, it was a pretty sweet looking place, honey to the eyes. Minor touch ups from Cars franchise are retained, like Cow-tractors. We see some 'Bird-planes' in their nests too, so thats cool.

Once Dusty's training begins, its actually a fun ride. Moments while watching 'Blazin’ Blaze show', 'asking for password on the door', and the hard work to put out fire in the jungle ... are satisfying. Even the mediocre movies have some lol-worthy characters. And honestly, there are some quietly brilliant ones here. Like Avalanche, and Windlifter. Have fun listening to his tiny speeches :tv: I had some pretty big laughs with Miss ... Dipper. "Rawr". Seeing her ‘peek’ at night, and whispering to dusty that she loves watching her sleep ... it was amusing, really. Loved the voice acting of Julie Bowen. Pretty good animation on her plane too. Songs during fire fighting missions were also pretty exciting.

The thing is, As long as its ‘cheerful’, its a fun and entertaining ride. When it enters in its ‘senti’ (sentimental) mode with that stupid background music … I f*cking hate it. And frankly, there was an overdose of it, not just in this one but in first Planes (2013) movie too. That, and the title ... its not what you'd call ... 'clever' :\ . Way to go marketing guys!

Overall, its the same 'dull' experience as the first one. But, i think this sequel is a tad bit better, especially because of movie time, which is just 1 hour and 23 minutes. Its fast paced, has a practical message to deliver, and its consistent. Its pretty, sweet to the eyes. The best part, you can also watch it with your family. 6/10. I am guilty of liking this one. Though the score is kept the same as the first Planes (2013).

Think Like a Man Too.................(7.5/10) watched in HD, slightly better than first part as this one was about bachelor party in Las Vegas, overall just for time pass!!!

Sex Tape..................(7.5/10) watched in HD, not what I expected from trailers, it looked hilarious from trailers but sadly that wasn't the case, felt kinda dull and slow

I read it on FB that it had made around 4 crores in the first week.Which is not bad for a film which is not for the masses. But yeah it needs international screening. The funny part is O21 has received some positive press and it's low on ticket sales.Whereas WAAR did not have a positive press but did well at the box office.Next up is MOOR by Jami.
