The Witcher 3 has finally been dethroned. Zelda claims the throne of best open world game, probably of the decade/generation.

Still at 98 with 53 reviews, BoTW has reached 'one of the greatest video games of all time' status. Damn!

98 Metacritic.. I honestly dont believe it. I highly doubt even Rockstar can beat that with RDR2. Switch was never in my mind but... idk anymore. I should check out the reviews. Seems like a must play for gamers.

[h=1]Zelda: Breath of the Wild is already one of the best-reviewed games of all time[/h]

[h=2]Nintendo’s first big release of 2017 may also be its best[/h]

Nintendo The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will be released tomorrow for both the Nintendo Switch and the Wii U, but the reviews are in. It’s not only one of the best games of the year so far — Metacritic lists it as the fourth best-reviewed game ever at the time of this article’s publication.
According to Metacritic, the top five games are:

  1. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (Nintendo 64) with a score of 99
  2. Tony Hawk’s Pro-Skater 2 (PlayStation) with a score of 98
  3. Grand Theft Auto 4 (PlayStation 3) with a score of 98
  4. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Switch) with a score of 98
  5. SoulCalibur (Dreamcast) with a score of 98
There are still a few outlets that have yet to be tabulated by Metacritic, so the ranking may move up or down in the next few days, but Breath of the Wild already ranks among the best-reviewed games in the industry’s history, not just Nintendo’s.
The NeoGAF thread for the game is nearing rapturous anticipation, and user Dystify created this image to show off the game’s near-perfect ratings:
Yeah, it’s doing OK so far Dystify/NeoGAF “I guess, in the end, it’s not just that Breath of the Wild signals that Zelda has finally evolved and moved beyond the structure it’s leaned on for so long,” our own review stated. “It’s that the evolution in question has required Nintendo to finally treat its audience like intelligent people. That newfound respect has led to something big, and different, and exciting.”

While these reviews are impressive, it’s likely best not to put too much stock in Metacritic’s top games, at least when comparing them to each other. The top five best-reviewed games are all rated a 98 or 99, and the final ranking is influenced by Metacritic’s own proprietary system for weighing certain outlets and assigning numerical scores to reviews that use a letter or star grading scale.
The result is a system that isn’t exactly perfectly scientific, but it does prove that Breath of the Wild is almost universally well-received, at least critically.

DF Analysis. Docked mode has frequent frame drops and sticks to 20 FPS in combat. Docked runs at 900p, undocked 720p.

Stretches of 20 FPS for such a high profile first party game is a bit embarrassing.

Well well, looks like Witcher has successfully entered established franchises like Elder Scrolls and Far Cry to take influence from for open world game design:

At the same time, Breath of the Wild is a truly open-world game and Nintendo looked to other games to understand how to do open worlds right. Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma told GameInformer that he played the Far Cry series, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim as research for Breath of the Wild. That research shows here, though Breath of the Wild doesn't rely too much on any one game for influences
Maybe thats why it suffers from the same 20fps gameplay at launch as well lol

har cheez mai witcher aajata hai kahi na kahi se :p

hmmm reminiscent of
har cheez mein PRO ajata hai kaheen se
..now where have I heard that?

BTW I can see nostalgia seeping through every paragraph from an american reviewer..sure it looks like a fantastic must play game, super polished, with meaningful gameplay,
but from all the coverage I have seen, it doesnt look to add such a dimension that it gets ranked as one of the highest rated game EVER

[h=1]Don’t put stickers on your Switch, says sticker maker[/h]

[h=2]Aftermarket “skins” might mess up your Switch and Joy-Cons[/h]

dbrand Nintendo Switch owners might want to refrain from decorating their new consoles with stickers and skins. Manufacturer dbrand, which makes skins for a variety of consumer electronics like phones, laptops and video game consoles, says applying those skins to the Switch and its Joy-Con controllers can damage the surface of those devices.
On Twitter, dbrand explained the situation in a series of tweets, calling its findings “bad news.”
@dbrand So, we received the Nintendo Switch a few days ago and as always, got straight to prototyping... (2/6) pic.twitter.com/wumjbyFIHS
— dbrand (@dbrand) March 3, 2017
@dbrand Having completed the JoyCon skins, everything looked phenomenal. Then, an issue arose... (3/6) pic.twitter.com/MtHyKBnBEr
— dbrand (@dbrand) March 3, 2017
@dbrand After removing the skin, it was obvious that the coating on the JoyCons do not play well with any kind of adhesive... (4/6) pic.twitter.com/m8kDluuTOX
— dbrand (@dbrand) March 3, 2017
The company says the same holds true of the Switch itself and posted a picture of the system with a marred Nintendo Switch logo. dbrand says it’s cancelling pre-orders and refunding customers who ordered its stickers. It advised its more than 800,000 Twitter followers against putting stickers on the Switch.
One of dbrand’s competitors, skin manufacturer SlickWraps, says it’s conducting its own tests “with over 80 different materials” on the Switch.

On Reddit, dbrand expanded further on its public service announcement, saying it experimented with a prelaunch unit and 10 retail units. The company stressed that “the JoyCons and the Console are not compatible with vinyl wraps or any adhesive-backed skin of any kind.”
In the meantime, it’s probably wise to heed dbrand’s advice. The company makes skins for dozens of devices, including the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One and their respective controllers.

[h=1]Nintendo Switch consoles can’t share microSD cards[/h]

[h=2]MicroSD cards can’t switch Switches[/h]

I’m sorry, Dave. I can’t let you do that. Nintendo via Polygon The Nintendo Switch’s inability to transfer game saves across consoles seems a curious omission for a console lacking online cloud backups of those saves. Switch save data is stored in the console’s system memory, and currently cannot be copied to any external storage medium.
That starts to make more sense once you realize that you can’t switch consoles with your SD card. If you remove a microSD card from a Switch and pop it into a different Switch, you’re greeted with the following warning:
The microSD card is being used by another Nintendo Switch console or was used on this console before it was initialized.
Delete the Nintendo Switch data on the microSD card to use it on this console.
Save data, screenshots, and other data not related to Nintendo Switch won’t be deleted. You can remove the microSD card if you don’t want to use it on this console.
It’s not clear why “save data” is included in this list if you’re unable to store save data on the microSD card in the first place. Perhaps a future update will enable the feature, or Nintendo is simply choosing this language to assuage concerns about save data integrity should you need to use the card in a second console.

Yeah the reviews had me thinking its a revelation in gaming but i just saw a livestream as well and it looks pretty average. Its more puzzle oriented so some of the puzzles did look engaging but thats about it.

Sometimes the hype just works in favor , New Zelda game came after long time as all others were remasters and remakes kindaish so thats why this one got hyped through the roof.

I am so tempted to get a Nintendo after this Zelda Hype. But confused whether to go for WII U or Switch. WII U dead hardware from hereon but could get it at a good price with 10 odd games on that system that I want to play. But Switch on the other is pricey with only 1 game atm but the joy of new hardware is there aswell.

I have a PS5 but I am not satisfied with the experience. I am currently saving for a 4080 64 GB rig soon. Bit will wait for Pro if performance improves. This gen has been so bad I don't plan on buying consoles anymore for AAA gaming.
