[h=1]The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild gets a $20 Expansion Pass[/h]
[h=2]That nets you two DLC packs, one this summer and one this holiday[/h]

The latest evidence that Nintendo is evolving to fit the expectations of its audience, and the realities of its business, is news that the company’s latest sure-to-be megahit The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will be getting downloadable content, via a $20 Season Pass option.
Despite being “one of the largest, most engaging video games Nintendo has ever created” it will release “two new sets of downloadable content for the game” later this year, and will be available for both the Nintendo Switch and Wii U releases of the game. These packs “cannot be purchased individually” according to Nintendo.
<img src="https://cdn1.vox-cdn.com/uploads/chorus_asset/file/7982727/vlcsnap_2017_02_14_08h50m51s649.png" alt=" "> Here are the details, straight from Nintendo:
Starting when the game launches on March 3, players will be able to purchase an Expansion Pass for $19.99, granting access to two new sets of downloadable content for the game when they become available later this year. Immediately upon pre-purchase or purchase of the Expansion Pass, three new treasure chests will appear in the game’s Great Plateau area. One of these treasure chests will contain a shirt with a Nintendo Switch logo that Link can wear during his adventure, exclusive to the Expansion Pass. The other two will deliver useful items. The first content pack is scheduled to launch this summer, and will include the addition of a Cave of Trials challenge, a new hard mode and a new feature for the in-game map. The second content pack will launch in Holiday 2017, and adds new challenges that will let players enjoy a new dungeon and a new original story. The Expansion Pass will be available for both the Nintendo Switch and Wii U versions of the game and are identical. Content packs cannot be purchased individually.
And for more color on the Expansion Pass, here’s series producer Eiji Aonuma delivering the news himself:

[h=1]Link looks at frogs, plays baseball and dies in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild[/h]

[h=2]The hero of time gets struck by lightning and explodes[/h]

Nintendo has revealed several minutes of previously unseen footage from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. In a video posted on Nintendo’s Japanese YouTube channel, we see Link participating in some new, exciting activities. Below, we’ve highlighted some of the most memorable moments.
Here, we see through Link’s telescope as he examines Hyrule’s wildlife, presumably with the intent of killing and eating them. Link is going to eat that frog.
Creeping on critters Nintendo Next, we get a glimpse of Breath of the Wild’s day/night cycle as Link stands completely motionless for nearly twelve hours. Will somebody please check on Link?
Link stands still for a whole day Nintendo All that standing has caused Link to work up a mighty hunger. He climbs a tree to pick a few apples. Actions like climbing and sprinting will use stamina. When Link’s stamina is depleted, he’ll need to take a moment to catch his breath.
Hunting for crisp, delicious tree snacks. Nintendo With his belly brimming with fresh fruit, Link goes for a jog through a rainstorm and a blizzard. Weather in Breath of the Wild will effect Link’s temperature, and he’ll need to dress appropriately for the elements.
Link goes running in some nasty weather. Nintendo Later, Link encounters a rude Bokoblin who throws a rock at him. Link deftly volleys it back using his wooden club.
Batter up! Nintendo Finally, having done the coolest thing he will do in his life, Link dies. Specifically, he gets struck by lightning attracted to his heavy metal armor. Heavy armor is a first for The Legend of Zelda, and it clearly comes with some tradeoffs.
Ride the lightning Nintendo The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild comes out March 3 on Nintendo Switch and Wii U.

HT to @electivirus for getting this video on our radar.

[h=1]Breath of the Wild on Switch doesn’t require an install[/h]

[h=2]No more waiting around — just play[/h]

In our hands-on time with the Nintendo Switch thus far, we noticed something major: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild doesn’t require a massive install in order to start playing.
Instead, popping in the cartridge into the console gets you into Link’s latest adventure right away. There’s no extra data installation required.
That’s par for the course with Nintendo systems, but it’s practically unheard of when it comes to PlayStation and Xbox games. Every single PlayStation 4 and Xbox One title has content players must install onto their consoles in order to play the full games, and sometimes those files are huge.
With storage space at such a premium on the Nintendo Switch, this is a huge deal. We already know that some games take up a majority of the console’s internal storage, which is only 32 GB. (Keep in mind that about six of those gigabytes are reserved for necessary bits of firmware.) A downloadable copy of Dragon Quest Heroes 1 & 2 won’t even fit on the system, as it’s bigger than the hard drive allows.

[h=4]Totaling the hidden costs of owning a Nintendo Switch[/h]
No installs required means we can start playing Breath of the Wild as soon as our console boots up (and the system updates, etc.) on launch day. That’s pretty rare for a console game in this day and age, and it’s easy to forget how nice immediately jumping into something new feels.
We’ll have more Switch impressions leading up to then, so stay tuned. The console — and the new Zelda game — hits retail on March 3.

First review is out and its a 10/10 from EDGE. Though not the harshest of critics anymore, a 10 is still considered a big deal. This might be THE definitive open world game of the year.

could be a paid review just to boost and hype the game for selling the console...

i still think its a bad idea to release switch BOTW and WII U BOTW on same day

WII U version should hve been after atleast 2months which would really helped Switch.

doesn't make sense, either scrap wiiu version altogether or release side by side... it's good that nintendo didn't ditch the core wiiU users with this title which was destined to come inbetween the wiiu's launch but atlast they would get to taste this game aswell... :)

If it really is as good (or better) than Ocarina of Time, BotW will easily be the best game of this generation. Looking forward to grabbing my Nintendo Switch as soon as I can find one.

yeah true but stilll they should delay the game by atleast 2months it honestly will hurt switch sales alot as this is kinda the biggest release for mature and causal and basic gamers.

while other games might not appeal to everyone to consider a switch in its first year.

I'll grab my digital copy from the e-shop. Not into physical editions anymore.

This game deserves a worthy official thread. If no one's up for the task, I may have to step out of OT retirement and do it myself.

The cross gen era really made people think 60fps would be a new standard lol

Welp, done with Hellblade 2. Thoroughly disappointed. Such a nothing burger after the unique experience of the first game.

I have a PS5 but I am not satisfied with the experience. I am currently saving for a 4080 64 GB rig soon. Bit will wait for Pro if performance improves. This gen has been so bad I don't plan on buying consoles anymore for AAA gaming.

Both PS and Xbox have been a flop this gen as they can barely maintain 30 fps in a lot of AAA games th.

As per WCCF Tech review, Xbox Series X doesn't even maintain a consistent FPS and sometimes drops into the mid-20fps range. That's unacceptable, tbh.

Score 1 for game pass. I wouldn't pay full price for this at retail either.

Just downloaded my first legit digital PC game on GoG at a discount of $8: Two Point Hospital. The same team behind Theme Hospital Two Point Studios now part of Sega. And I am having more fun than most recent AAA games except of course BG3.

PC Gamer score of 58/100 for Hellblade 2??? Is it really worse than Gollum that was 64/100? Microsoft games can't even come close to high scores of Sony exclusives apparently.
