the lota fanboys and their fanboyism in this forum are off the charts all the time.

like really neogaf has nothing on us in that respect
Yes, and look at neogaf now .. only 200 online users during E3. That place is a shell of it's former self now. Let's not turn PG into that.

Anyway, rumor going around that TLoU 2 will sort of abandon the norm and be divided into 2 distinct time lines. I was hoping they would show more of totally-Ellie's-Mom from the PSX trailer.

the last uncharted wasn't praised for its gameplay either. guess ND really want people to feel something at the cost of anything
The last Uncharted wasn't The Last of Us, though, which ended being GoTY 2013 (despite a certain GTA game, which now serves as inspiration for a certain futuristic open world game, being among the contenders). Also, you weren't into TLoU back then either, saying that you much preferred Uncharted's style of gameplay. So, yeah, it's natural that TLoU part II's gameplay doesn't appeal to you :p

the gameplay is becoming pretty stale. the last uncharted wasn't praised for its gameplay either. guess ND really want people to feel something at the cost of anything
What do you mean becoming? TLoU gameplay was stale and repetitive to begin with, esp with the comical AI routines. Hardly the pinnacle of cover based third person shooters. Adding groundbreaking features like prone and jump is what they hope will make the gameplay somewhat less stale, but the level design seemed ordinary in the demo. Much of the AI and animations from TLoU 1 E3 demo didn’t make it to the final game. Let’s see how much of this does.

I dont think ND is at all polarizing. There are a very small minority of haters, who bash its game, like any other studio. If it was so polarizing I think that would be reflected in the scores its games get, nor alot of people putting in their top 5 list..i.e I loathe Halo, but many people adore it and I respect that.
IMO if a studio is constantly putting up successful numbers critically and commercially, like ND - its pretty much top notch

Lesboooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooos
pls.no.more.pls.

On the tech and animations front : most developers (animations, character tech, gameplay and AI programmers, character art and various people around the studio who I have talked to) all agree on one thing : it was mighty mighty impressive
considering most of them are looking at this from a professional point of view and, it would be safe to say, most of them are "PC first" gamers

otherwise commenting on anything else

I can easily predict that TLOU 2 won't be as highly regarded as the first one. I like their UC franchise but even a blind man can see their critical success had contantly fallen since UC2.
U can't keep getting away by recycling the same ideas again and again. Technology can take u so far.

Y'all discussing gameplay here like it's the most important thing; I just want to see more of Ellie, Joel and the amazing story ND has written for us. :p

lol well the first game is still the best single player and multiplayer 3rd person shooter, so I'm definitely more interested in gameplay. A well told story with good pacing is also important, though.

Suddenly some people have newfound criticism for TLoU after they were offended by TLoU II trailer. :p

TLoU is a universally acclaimed masterpiece whether you like it or not, just like The Witcher 3 is or some other games are. Talking about it like it's some 6 or 7-rated-game is fine as your subjective opinion but it doesn't represent the critic and user consensus and it shouldn't be presented as something objective. It's a given that masterpieces have their flaws and one can make a long list of them with respect to The Witcher 3 gameplay, for instance, but it doesn't change the status of the game as a masterpiece among critics and fans alike.

This is the thought process and level of intelligence we can expect from those suddenly in a criticizing mode :p

It does feel like they're compensating. The gameplay was really underwhelming. Maybe theyre just trying to make up for the sexual harassment that goes on in their studio :p
pro LGBT being shoved down our throat again. even the gaming industry is tainted by this politically correct brainwashing BS
ND u let me down

Such smart individuals :p

Druckmann interview post E3. Covers a *LOT* of things.

Some are quoted below:

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/gaming/...i-exclusive-interview-neil-druckmann-lesbian/

game will feature non linear story (flash backs), Ellie's part is 4 years after the first game's ending.

It’s an incredible demo. Will it play out like that in the game or have you stage managed it to go from the kiss to the neck slice and back again?

ND: E3 demos are an interesting thing. Normally when you play that level there are all these paths you could take of how you enter the garage or circumvent it, whether you’re going to engage with these people or not at all. But for E3 we take a complex system that has a lot of randomness and make it deterministic and then we play it a lot and we rehearse and choreograph it because we’re trying to show you very specific beats and moments but you’re seeing all game mechanics and systems and assets that you’re going to experience in the final game.

How much time has elapsed since the first game?

ND: It’s been roughly four years. Ellie was about 15 when they arrived in Jackson. Now she’s about 19.

We have to talk about the violence in the demo: it’s extremely sickening. Lots of neck slicing, entrails falling out, hammer blows to the face… What are you trying to achieve with this?

ND: Realism. We’re telling a story that’s a conversation about the cycle of violence. We’re telling a story that we’re saying there’s a cost of pursuing justice at any cost, both personal and around us. And we don’t want to sanitise it.

Our research is actually way more disturbing than what you see in the game. We watch real life violence. Stuff that’s hard for us to watch but we feel if this is a story we chose to tell we have to do it as honestly as we can. And therefore the violence needs to be as grounded as it can. Often a lot of the iteration process is minimizing it and making it more realistic and that’s something our co-art director John Sweeney is really pushing hard: ‘no, no - look at this reference, this is how it should be’. And we know it’s going to be at times disturbing and at times uncomfortable and that’s ok, that’s part of art. As long as it’s engaging and ultimately there’s a reason for all of it and it causes you to reflect on it then that’s why it needs to be in there.

Exactly, I completely agree. The gameplay was so good in the first that I wouldn't mind if it stayed the same for the second part.

Naughty Dog: Ellie is the Only Playable Character in The Last of Us Part II - Playstation 4

They said this about the first part too (Joel being the only playable character) but I will miss Joel. :(

Joel will be around though. I hope he makes frequent appearances in cutscenes and perhaps accompany Ellie as NPC in some parts of the game. Perhaps they think Joel is now old enough to not being able to engage in the kind of action the game demands. I'm guessing that Ellie will have some other playable companion along the way.
