PC folks. If anyone is still playing this, have you tried enabling AA in the game? Its making the game a lot less painful to the eyes than before.

Got these off GAF:

Finally played a bit of the game, got past the prequel mission. Here's some random thoughts ..

- the game is anti-Mass Effect to put it more bluntly. Where Mass Effect is a WRPG that tries more to take the shooter route, this is a shooter that's making the RPG elements it's majority part.

- production values are ass at best, game looks ugly, tears like hell, and still has random frame drops, shooting mechanics aren't really great but so far the dialogue system and general writing is pretty good and the major key point for the game.

- dozens of stats to put points in etc etc.

Are the shooting bits 'good enough' to continue the game all the way through? Or are they annoying?

They're passable. Don't expect modern shooter style pin point accuracy. The game works on a "dice roll" mechanic, so even if you're pointing square at someone's head every time you press the button your chances of hitting him are still random.

The biggest annoyance with the shooting so far is the massive ass aiming reticule, the analog aiming is very wonky too for some reason, sensitivity's a bit screwed up like Far Cry 2.

Exactly what I noticed in the videos. You have to wait too long for the aiming to be a bit more accurate...and looks abysmal in a 'run and gun' shooting style. Does upgrading the guns help with the accuracy at all?

I guess the good RPG elements are burried under the horrid gameplay (gun play)? So anyone wanting to enjoy the best it has to offer has to be more patient against the flaws in the game.

Yeah there's definitely a lot of RPG'ing going on. Unlike Mass Effect you cannot exhaust dialogue tree's, once you make a decision out of the four possible "types" of things you can do, it sticks and the story progresses immediately.

Also, based on the descriptions of the upgrade tree there's no specific mention of aiming assists but there's damage and ammo count increase based power ups. Maybe sticking to a weapon class and upgrading it naturally increases it's accuracy I guess. (I'm planning to max Stealth and Assault Rifles, since punching people to death is much more faster and safer than a gun fight for some strange reason).

The pressure of persuading Morinth by making the right choices in ME2 made the moment so tense. I guess Alpha Protocol uses its one-note effect for its own good.

I'll stick to my decision and try out this game. Hopefully some tweaking on my part will make the visuals that much better like in ME2 ;)

Played a good session more. The general structure of the game is very similar to Mass Effect 2. Take a mission, go to a small chunk of a location, do mission, return to HQ. You can pick up bonus objectives for missions from your computer but they cost a little money so don't spend all your cash immediately on better armor like me or you might miss the opportunity to get more XP -_-

combat still sucks but i've been putting points in the Assault Rifle and it's gotten good at killing people quickly at least.

I like how it takes a few seconds for the weapons to texture up in the weapon loadout menu , even launch UE3 games ran better than this ..

also, the game literally freezes for a few seconds every time you unlock an achievement .. a good contender for the worst optimized game ever lol, the amount of content and the good writing would have really made a better impact on a more suitable game than this.

The game is starting to grow on me. I can't help but say that this is a terrible waste of good "parts". The writing/story/espionage part of the game is excellent, but everything else is sub PS2 era quality. Big big shame.
