Street Fighter 5’s latest trailer shows off Urien, who will be released as part of the September update to the game, developer Capcom announced today.
Urien is the sixth and final downloadable fighter in Capcom’s first "season" of post-launch add-ons for Street Fighter 5. The character, who is a member of the Illuminati, debuted in 1997’s Street Fighter 3: 2nd Impact. Here’s some more information on Urien from Capcom:

Urien is the Vice President of Illuminati and wants nothing but to take over Illuminati from his older brother, Gill, and destroy Shadaloo. Urien has complete confidence in his own physicality and this elitism shows itself through his sadistic and tyrannical tendencies. He gains joy only from dominating others and having them crumble in the face of his incredible power.

In Street Fighter 5, Urien wears a pinstriped gray suit rather than his old costume, a loincloth. His V-Skill, Metallic Aura, gives him a forward charge that he can use to absorb one attack. With his V-Trigger, Aegis Reflector, he creates a purple energy barrier (two with a full V-meter) that can reflect projectiles and damage his opponent. And in his Critical Art, known as Dominate Crush, he charges up his arm and slams it downward.
Capcom will announce a concrete release date for Urien and Street Fighter 5’s September update during the Tokyo Game Show next week.

Street Fighter 5 players will have the chance to conjure the Halloween spirit this month with a fresh batch of "spook-tacular" costumes for Capcom’s fighting game.
While it appears that not every character on the Street Fighter 5 roster will be dressing up, at least Ryu, Charlie, Vega, Cammy, Necali, Alex and Juri are getting some Halloween-themed DLC. Those costumes will only be available for a limited time, however. They'll be available for purchase from the PlayStation Store and Steam from Oct. 11 to Nov. 29. Each Halloween costume is priced at $3.99 / €3.99 / £3.29.
Capcom will also release a Halloween-themed stage next week. The stage is stuffed with jack-o'-lanterns and features a couple of cameos: Street Fighter 3's Necro and Effie can be seen hanging around a witch's cauldron in the background. The Halloween stage is priced at $1.99 / €1.99 / £1.29 or 40,000 Fight Money.

Capcom will release Akuma as a playable character for Street Fighter 5 later this month, officially kicking off the fighting game’s second season of downloadable add-on fighters.
The 2017 Character Pass will be released for Street Fighter 5 Dec. 20. Akuma will be the first of six new characters included in that pass, which costs $29.99/€29.99/£24.99, Capcom said. The pass also comes with premium battle costumes, each with eight colors unlocked and default costume colors 3-10 for each character.
Akuma was announced at the Capcom Pro Tour North American finals in November, where producer Yoshinori Ono said he’d be playable at PSX.
On the Capcom Unity blog, Capcom detailed Akuma’s moveset:

V-Skill: Rakan
Akuma strikes a defensive stance and similar to Ryu’s Mind’s Eye, can parry an incoming attack. He can follow-up the move with an upward kick or a long reaching palm strike.
V-Trigger: Dohatsu Shoten
Akuma powers up and envelops his body with ki to enter Dohatsu Shoten mode. In this mode, his Gohadokens are more powerful, now able to travel full-screen and he can unleash two in the air even while jumping backwards. Additionally, when he lands his Goshoryuken attack, he follows-up and violently drives his opponents into the ground.
Critical Art: Sekia Koretsuha
Akuma channels an incredible amount of ki into his palm and drives it into the ground, striking the opponent with an exploding pillar of fierce energy.
Critical Art: Shun Goku Satsu
Only accessible while in Dohatsu Shoten mode, Akuma’s most powerful attack returns. He glides towards the opponent and grabs them, resulting in a series of devastating strikes in the blink of an eye.

Six downloadable characters — the game’s Season 1 DLC — were announced at PlayStation Experience last year. They were Guile, Juri, Urien, Alex, Ibuki and Balrog, and they were metered out after the game’s launch in February to season pass holders.

Street Fighter 5 rage-quitters are due for a public shaming in the game's next update, according to observant fans who mined the newest version for information.
As noticed by NeoGAF, a new test branch for the PC version of Street Fighter 5 went up on Steam and fans plundered it for information before it could be pulled back. Among the discoveries: Players who quit in-progress matches too often are going to get a badge noting that.
"Special icons will be displayed on the Fighter Profiles of players who frequently disconnect, as well as those who never do, making it easier for players with the same icon to battle against each other," say the notes.

Rage-quitting has been an issue since the flagship fighting game's launch back in February. Street Fighter 5 launched without any way of penalizing sore losers who quit a match once it became apparent they'd get their ass kicked.


Updates in April and then in August scaled up the reputational penalties for poor sportsmanship. Among them were a 24-hour lockout from multiplayer for those who rage-quit three times in a two-hour span

i plyed this game for 80hours and man match making wait is toooo much for a 3min match, whereas ultra was ultra fast, lag is there its unbarebale it works at times but most of the time its shit , i plyed same people ultra at same time and it was ultra smooth while this is shit lagg.

A new challenger approaches Street Fighter 5. Kolin, the icy, rekka-style fighter who first appeared in Street Fighter 3 as a non-playable character, is coming to Street Fighter 5 as downloadable content on Feb. 28.
Kolin — pronounced like “Colleen” — “excels in the Russian martial art of Systema, utilizing the opponent’s momentum against them and executing various slash-like attacks and knife hand strikes,” Capcom said on its official blog. As a servant of Street Fighter 3 antagonist Gill, Kolin has the power to augment her attacks with ice.
Here’s a breakdown of Kolin’s abilities, via Capcom Unity:

V-Skill: Inside Slash
Kolin’s unique counter allows her to deflect and automatically punish incoming moves with ease.
V-Trigger: Diamond Dust
With a full V-meter, Kolin can slam the ground twice with her foot, each time shooting out a path of sharp icicles across the floor. In addition to damage and stun, this move freezes the opponent’s stun gauge. While in this special state, the stun gauge will not deplete and if Kolin is successful in stunning the opponent, they will be frozen in place.
Critical Art: Frost Tower
Kolin dashes forward with a slice of her hand. If the attack connects, she’ll continue summoning large icicles from the ground, throwing the opponent into the air and shattering the ice to drop them to the ground.

Kolin will be available as part of Street Fighter 5’s Season 2 Character Pass, which costs $29.99/€29.99/£24.99. The first character available via that pass, Akuma, was released in December. The Season 2 Character Pass will also include four additional fighters, as well as premium battle costumes and extra character colors.

Street Fighter 5 players notice Islamic chants in new Buddhist temple stage




A big cultural error that games have made before


A new stage in Street Fighter 5 has already been mysteriously removed from the game, according to players on Steam and Reddit. After launching just yesterday, the “Temple Hideout” stage has been pulled from sale without warning.
On both the PlayStation 4 and Windows PC versions of Street Fighter 5, Temple Hideout is no longer available to purchase from the in-game store. We’ve reached out to Capcom about this, but the stage’s removal coincides with a curious discovery made by those who were able to buy it before it disappeared.
A reworking of Street Fighter 2’s popular Thailand level, Temple Hideout is set at a Buddhist temple. Yet the background music uses the sound of an Islamic prayer with clear Arabic heard throughout.

That’s a pretty huge cultural error to make for obvious reasons. Although Thailand has a sizable Muslim population, this stage is explicitly filled with Buddhist iconography.

Capcom isn’t the first developer to make this exact same mistake, which others have been quick to rectify in the past. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Timefeatured the same sample track as part of the score for the Fire Temple level. Yep — literally the exact same Islamic prayer was borrowed for the non-religious Ocarina of Time, nearly 20 years ago. YouTubers The Game Theorists have a detailed explanation of this strange event, which led to Nintendo excising the music from the game for its second printing.

In a similar case, LittleBigPlanet ended up being delayed in Europe because of a song that borrowed some verses from the Qu’ran. Although the artist, Toumani Diabete, was Muslim himself and quoting another song from his home country of Mali, Muslim fans who picked up on the references were aghast. Sony removed the song’s offending lyrics before LittleBigPlanet’s European release, and it also recalled existing copies from worldwide retailers to replace them with the fixed version.
Although there hasn’t been an outcry about the Thailand stage — in part because it wasn’t available for all that long — it’s a reminder that borrowing something sacred to one culture for an irrelevant text can come with consequences. That’s not to say that’s the main reason for the stage’s removal, but it would be a striking coincidence.

The next character in Street Fighter 5's downloadable content plans is Ed, confirming a couple of inadvertent leaks of Balrog's protégé over the past week.


Ed appeared in Balrog's ending in Super Street Fighter 4; this will mark the character's playable debut. In Capcom's reveal trailer, Ed and his mentor duke it out before Ed goes after M. Bison.
They're battling in the Temple Hideout stage, a redo of Street Fighter 2's iconic level by the same name. But a background music track used in that stage, which contained "unintentional religious references," (the sounds of an Islamic prayer, in Arabic) led it to get pulled, and to be re-released later with the prayer sounds scrubbed out.
Ed will have three costumes; they all speak to the flair and extravagance of someone named Ed.

Capcom Ed sneaked out in some images inadvertently put up on the PlayStation Store last week (as spied by NeoGAF). EventHubs, the all-things portal for the fighting game community, alsospied a few official images on the Street Fighter website itself, so this is not a total surprise to fight fans in the know.

Ed is part of the Season 2 Character Pass, which includes Kolin and Akuma, and will deliver three more new characters.

The next character coming to Street Fighter 5 is Abigail, Capcom announced before the game’s top eight finals at the Evo 2017 fighting game tournament.
Abigail is the latest character from Capcom’s Final Fight to cross over to Street Fighter. In the original Final Fight, Abigail was one of the bulky bruisers in the Mad Gear gang, though players didn’t encounter him until late in the game. Another of those Mad Gear giants, Hugo, joined the Street Fighter franchise with Street Fighter 3: Second Impact. While Hugo was a large character, Abigail appears to be the absolute largest Street Fighter character to date, standing nearly twice the height of Ed, as shown in the trailer above.
Abigail is the fourth of six DLC characters included in Street Fighter 5’s season two pass. Capcom has released Akuma, Kolin and Ed as part of the game’s second season so far. Abigail and his stage Metro City Bar Area will be available on July 25.

Menat, an all new character, makes her Street Fighter 5 debut on Aug. 29. She was revealed this morning during a break in the final eight round of E-Sports Festival Hong Kong 2017.

There had been plenty of speculation, as far back as May, that Menat would be the new DLC character coming at the end of the month. The fortune teller from Ed’s story mode resembled the next silhouette to be filled in Street Fighter 5’s roster, and a character list leaked before Ed joined the game mentioned Menat by name.
Menat will have three looks, a standard, story mode and battle costume. She’ll be accompanied by 30th anniversary costumes for other characters when the DLC drops on Tuesday.
Menat is the 27th character on the Street Fighter 5 roster and the eighth new character debuting in the game. She follows Abigail, who was revealed back in July at Evo 2017 and became available later that month.
