no doubt SATA 6 GB/s SSDs are the fastest storage device

however, two points to be considered.. reliability and cost .. if we were having purchasing power like many other countries then no problem... 1 SSD faulty hui tou kia hua ? doosri forun buy kar li... but most of us hardly surviving ... SSD is "one time in life" purchase for many people

raptors in raid is a very goop option in much lower price than SSD ...

I am using 3x 80 GB raptors in raid0 and enjoying very good performance .. much better than normal Hard drives .. yes still below SSD performance ... however price/performance unbeatable

again, if someone is rich enough, then i would recommend at least 2 or 3 SATA 6 GB/s SSDs in raid :)

SSds...highly likely to fail....:crying:
My pc boots in 25 seconds..ready to use
ssd may boot it in 5 or 6 seconds... i am not going to win anything in 20 seconds i get....itney time mein to dsl bhi on nae hota... :D

my battlefield 3 loads in around 1 minute...ssd will make it load may be in 10 seconds....50 seconds save kar k mein konsa kamaal karney wala hun...
yahan to loadshedding se hours pe hours PC off rehta hay...

and most important 120 Gb space k liye 12 k...forget it Dude...(2t)

My recommendation :
3*80Gb raptors in Raid 0
...give u 350mb read/ write spead....
240Gb space.....
cost u around 5k only....

will serve u loooooooooooooooooong time ;)

Just get one, they have a very long time before failure, however depending on your luck it may get naughty, and sometimes there is no cure :p

Ur PC is booting in 25 Seconds despite being on Raid0 with 3x HDD?
Faida kya hoa? :|

3x HDD in Raid0 is at a much higher risk than SSD simply because a lot of things can go wrong
Failure of one HDD will destroy the array for example

if somebody has money enough that its now getting out of his pockets then go grab a ssd ... ;)
For those who want it desperately should only go for intel ones...they r best...and most important 3 years warranty

The cheapest drive available is Corsair Force 3. But it uses Asynchronous NAND which is not as good as Synchronous NAND used in Corsair Force GT and Intel 330 and 520 SSDs. That makes the extra cost of SSD with Synchronous NAND justified in my opinion. And the extra premium for Intel drive in this case is of only Rs.600, for which I don't have to be a millionaire :wink2:

And a reliable drive will have more chance of still being trouble free after the expiry of warranty period. Besides, even if the drive is within warranty period, I would prefer a drive that won't make my system unusable for even a day or so and I would prefer not to get into the hassle of claiming warranty from our local shopkeepers.
I was more of referring to their new 520 series and I'm sure that you can't find that for just 600rps more or am I wrong?

SSD's are sold due to their high Read/Write speeds. Intel 330 lacks this factor and this is where Corsair takes over. And according to the NAND that you're referring to, I haven't heard any as much difference or problem associated with the simple Force 3 of Corsair. Lastly, it's always good to go with the principle of 'Buy to sell'. And in Intel's case, it's always been a losing factor.

The only two SSD's worth my money would be 1) Samsung 830 and 2) Crucial M4, both not available here. Both are the best drives on the market for their reliability and experience in the fieldand the fastest speeds and High IOPS(which are one of the most important things considering reliability).

Samsung has been supplying SSD to all top shelf OEMs Apple and Dell and for enterprise products.

Performance gain with 520 series is indeed not worth the price premium in my opinion.

Intel 330 is not too slow compared to Corsair Force GT
AnandTech - Bench - SSD
In some benchmarks Corsair GT is slightly faster, but the performance difference is not too much. On the other hand, in the benchmarks where Intel 330 has the advantage, the difference in performance is pretty significant.

Performance difference between SSDs with Synchronous and Asynchronous NAND is pretty significant when dealing with incompressible data. And even if Asynchronous drives perform well during benchmarks, their real world performance is pretty poor compared to Synchronous drives.

That's one of the reasons why I'm still a bit hesitant in getting an SSD :$. What if I buy an Intel 330 or Corsair GT SSD and Samsung 830 become available only after a few days at similar price :(

Have you Read what i wrote the applications i use for SSD ? or you are just implying yourself about Buying SSD for bf3 ?

I didnt recommended him , i Corrected him as he had a misconception that it wont do wonder in bf3 so i had to share my first hand experience

Ditto Failure rate is Higher with Raid0 thats what i heard from people when i was going for it

Same logic can be applied to 35k+ Rs Graphics Cards or 25k+ Rs Processors or 20k+ Rs Motherboards
Hell even 6k Rs Casing is pushing it depending on perspective

ppl buy the above mentioned components to play BF3 so whats wrong with SSD?

SSD is just another component that gives blazing fast speeds by replacing possibly the slowest component in a PC the Mechanical hard disk

I think those who have used SSD will not be willing to go back to mechanical drives for Windows and Applications

Thats a risk u will have to take man
think about the ppl who bought Corsair Force 3/GT for 15k+ Rs just a couple of months back :tv:

No it's not, from your own link the guy mentions that it's simply just not accurate. The main thing is the Sandforce controller itself and how good is the history of this controller. The one that you'd mentioned earlier is quite common on most newer SSD's, so it's good in that way.

I understand that with Intel you're basically paying for reliability first and then performance, whereas Corsair is all about performance and it's only Not reliable when it's DOA, that's obvious to understand. Anyways, go with whatever pleases your wallet or state of mind..
