Dear Brothers,

Assalamoalaikum,

I just bought a Sandy Bridge PC. My PC is Core i7 2600K, mobo is Asus P8Z68 Deluxe, Hard drive is WD 1002FAEX Black Sata III and graphic card Nvidia EVGA GTX570. I didn't know that Ivy Bridge is around the corner. I have invested a lot of my savings on this pc. Now that Windows 8 would also release next year to play games I would have to buy a new graphic card supporting directx 11.1. I would request your opinions about two things 1- How long would I be able to play games on this PC without any upgrades? and 2- When I have to upgrade would I be able to sell my processor, mobo and graphic card, and if so how much could I get for these? Just a rough idea! Approximately. Would be thankful for your thoughts. Best regards.(bow)

Your graphics card can run most if not all games at highest graphics settings for 1-1.5 years easily and 2-2.5 years if you are not hell bent on running games at highest possible settings. Processor should last two to three years easily. Release of Ivy Bridge CPU doesn't mean that your Sandy Bridge flagship CPU gets obsolete and won't give performance in app/games. It will work fine maybe a bit slower than high-end Ivy Bridge models but it still is pretty fast. If worst comes to worst and you want more performance you can squeeze it out of your CPU by overclocking as you have all the necessary ingredients i.e. a K series i7 and z68 chipset motherboard.

One advice for you is to just try to be contended with a thing you bought. Take the new releases of computer hardware a bit lightly and don't become a heart patient by "over-thinking".

As you know when sandybitch was released they have that B2 issue.

Who know what holes Ivybitch might have.

So take some comfort in the fact that it wouldn't give you any issues unless you OverCrack the processor :)

The issue was with the chipsets, not the processors.

First of all BRO dont take any tension. :)

Your PC is a high end gaming PC. So it will last you 3 yrs easily.
Core i7 920 and GTX295 is also almost 3yrs old but they can run any game at high settings.

And second ivy bridge is only 10% faster then sandy bridge.

Dont think of selling it. Just chill and enjoy it to the fullest. :)

No one can tell if you're wondering everything to be at max and at it's best.

and 2- When I have to upgrade would I be able to sell my processor, mobo and graphic card, and if so how much could I get for these? Just a rough idea! Approximately.
FYI, for Ivy Bridge you only need "that" CPU and a little BIOS update, everything should be remaining same.

An i7-2600k will fetch you more money as compare to other SB CPUs, because a lot of heavy-duty worker are looking for Hyper-Threaded and 8 virtual core CPUs. Just RELAX!

You can still challenge an Ivy Bridge by just overclocking your CPU. Once again, RELAX.

I dont see why you are worried about ivy bridge, I have seen NO GAME even take half cpu of a i5 2500k DEFAULT not even overclocked, and your talking about i7 2600k LoL, :looking:.

And if you really feel like upgrading depending on some motherboards you might be able to run ivybridge just like that or with a bios update easy.
