Bdw, you mentioned 1tb SSD in the laptops. Are you sure that 1tb SSD? It must be 1tb HDD with 256gb SSD.
Extremely sorry, 1 TB hdd only, or 128gb ssd only or 256gb ssd only with 3k up.
Also the laptop has a 2.5" bay and also an m2 slot.

Now another question.. Should I just buy the cheap 30k HP Elitebook Folio with 250GB SSD and a 3rd gen i5? Or spend like 70k on a 7th Gen laptop?
You know I would also consider waiting for 8th gen, their lineup will have quad core cpu every where and most incremental performance. Also dell has upped their quality game in new upcoming inspiron with metal etc. Currently their build quality is so cheap.

But prices in Pakistan would be insane.. I do have relatives that come from time to time though. Customs won't create an issue?
Never unltil it's your personal belonging.

Gonna do some research tonight. If they come within a month and I have some relative coming, I'll wait.

Also, I got an offer of 17k on my laptop. Shall I sell?

Specs:

Core i5 2410M (2nd gen)
8gb ram
1tb hdd
Radeon 6770
FP reader

Gives a fan error on startup but fan can be replaced for 500. Works fine. Decent condition.

I will say, sell it. It's time to move on.

Hey guys. So the laptop in my signature (the specs on the rigth I believe) is almost 5 years old. Following are the specs:

 • 2nd Gen i5
 • Radeon 6770
 • 1TB HDD
 • 8GB RAM

Now.. my desktop has a 120GB SSD which is full. I was thinking I should move that to my laptop, replace the laptop's DVDRW with the 1TB HDD (in a custom bay) and order a Samsung EVO 850 500GB for my PC.

Question is, will installing an SSD in the laptop help?

It's issues:

 • Gives a system fan 90b error on almost every startup (any suggestions in this regard?)
 • Windows boots at an OK speed
 • After boot, opening Android studio or dropbox takes like 2-3 minutes minimum - often more

Give me some suggestions. Should I do the above, or sell this laptop and get a new one?

Go to the task manager and look at the disk active time. If it is constantly high then installing an SSD will speed it up.

Ok so i have tested this method twice and both times showed a significant improvement in performance:

Right click on start menu and open up control panel

Search for performance in the top right

Click on adjust appearance and performance

open advanced tab and click change

Uncheck automatic

Click the drive system is installed on select custom size

set initial and maximum size to the value recommended by windows

click set and then restart

It should be alot better. This worked on 2 different machines and does not guarantee yours will be the same

EDIT: Added an image to show what to put where cause people can't read
if you are using Windows 10 try this also. This helped my laptop alot.

I doubt this will help. Because OP has 8GB RAM and paging usually triggers when your RAM is full, for a normal users 8GB is more than enough. Although this will help in my case, I have 4gb ram with 4th gen i7 and use laptop extensively for development and heavy apps and keep hitting the mark where paging triggers again and again.

Took out Force GS 128gb from PC and put it in the laptop with a fresh windows installation.
Got a 500gb EVO 850 for the PC - cloned the Force GS.

Laptop is fast.
PC is fast.

Ordered a new cooling fan for the laptop from aliexpress along with the HDD caddy. Will post pictures if thread is still open.

Just wanted to provide an update :tv:

rafay22 I am facing an issue on the laptop. After the Windows logo goes away during a cold-boot (or reboot), the laptop is stuck on a black screen for a good 40 50 seconds (variable) before the login screen comes.

Any idea what might be causing the issue?

Did you install windows via USB? Was it a UEFi or Legacy? Because windows 10 works better with UEFI. And as you said that you have an old laptop, it probably is legacy only that is why you are facing this issue. If a laptop supports UEFI and windows with UEFI is installed then windows logo does not appear at all, instead you should see logo of your laptops make.
BUT 40+ seconds is way too high, let me know from where you downloaded and installed windows, which version and how (was it a clean install or what)? Did you make a buffer partition (sometimes it is also generated automatically). It definitely is something related to your laptops chipset and windows installation compatibility.

I found the fix. It was related to the ATI/Intel dual card setup. God bless the internet and google. I don't have the solution bookmarked but I'm sure I can find it again if needed.

Only changed one registry entry from 1 to 0 and voila.

That's nice then. Btw 120gb isn't too small?

So.. An update.

The caddy arrived (and the fan). The hard disk, when installed in the caddy, isn't detected by the system. Sucks. Any tips? I've tried everything. The caddy is fine since it works in my brother's laptop (I checked).

Apparently nothing comes to mind, have you checked Bios? Also try checking the caddy with ssd installed rather than the hdd you are currently trying.
