Hello boys,
I'm planning to upgrade my r9 280x 3gb card. Here in china cheapest new rtx 2080 cost 5600 yuan whereas used 1080ti cost around 4000. Which one should I get ?
AND is these cards overkill for a 4 gen i5, 500 w gold power supply ?
If yes then 1070ti used is priced 2300 yuan where as new rtx 2070 cost 4000.
I'll also be upgrading my pc next year.
I'm so confused I don't know what to do.

We need to know what resolution you would be gaming at and what other stuff you'll be using the GPU to define what's "Overkill" or not for you, Moving towards the other point we don't know what brand or rather quality of PSU you have to see if it's possible to use an RTX 2080 on it though if I am not wrong the minimum would be the best 550W you can get that is efficient enough to handle ~+-85% load on it I would rather be safe than sorry and get a better and high capacity PSU than try my luck at any given brand 500W PSU even if it's rated gold, that is only if you are looking to get a 1080ti/2080 which again if you get a 1080ti depending on what I or others would recommend you'll need to tell us which 500W PSU you already have.

1440p gaming in future but right now it's 1080p.

I would suggest a used 1080 for 1440p resolution, you can get away even with a 1070ti. No need for rtx2080/rtx2070, not at all since some of them are reportedly dying.

I am almost in a similar boat sans the problems, which was getting either an RTX 2070 or GTX 1080 ti since both are priced almost the same here too, my choice was a bit easier because I cared about RTX and DLSS stuff as a developer but honestly if I wasn't a developer and didn't care about Ray-Tracing and DLSS and all the goodies it provides for AI, ML, and rendering techniques etc., I would get a GTX 1080 ti provided that I will be upgrading to 1440p 144hz for which the GTX 1080ti should last a while.

Coming towards the PSU, I Assume you have the Silverstone SFX 500W SX500-LG, it has gotten a couple good reviews and almost all of them say it has good capacitors and build quality (internal) so it should, in theory, be able to handle a 1080ti no OC guaranteed ofc, however, if you haven't bought this PSU I'll highly recommend you get at least a 650W high-quality PSU it's not absolutely necessary but for future proofing standpoint it should, in theory, be good for a long time.

Have a good day/night!

Were you looking at the Gigabyte GTX 1080ti, the white one? Because that is the only cheaper 1080ti available.

Aren't 1080ti's priced similar to the 2080?. Wasn't able to find a 1080ti less than 100k locally. Unless you're talking about used ones.

I would recommend to stay away from RTX 2000 series for at least 3 months due to the fact that the number of RTX gpus randomly ending up dead during usage. its not limited to stock gpus. its happening with custom versions as well. So wait till its resolved. For now, GTX 1080ti is still a solid 4k card. So go for it until you feel like upgrading. I would suggest buy a used one.

Consoles were my main platform ever since Atari 2500. But now I think it's not worth it as PC especially with DLSS deliver far smoother performance. AW2 on console didn't even had ray tracing and ran below 30fps. Similar issues plagues DD2 on consoled.
The cross gen era really made people think 60fps would be a new standard lol

Welp, done with Hellblade 2. Thoroughly disappointed. Such a nothing burger after the unique experience of the first game.

I have a PS5 but I am not satisfied with the experience. I am currently saving for a 4080 64 GB rig soon. Bit will wait for Pro if performance improves. This gen has been so bad I don't plan on buying consoles anymore for AAA gaming.

Both PS and Xbox have been a flop this gen as they can barely maintain 30 fps in a lot of AAA games th.

As per WCCF Tech review, Xbox Series X doesn't even maintain a consistent FPS and sometimes drops into the mid-20fps range. That's unacceptable, tbh.

Score 1 for game pass. I wouldn't pay full price for this at retail either.

Just downloaded my first legit digital PC game on GoG at a discount of $8: Two Point Hospital. The same team behind Theme Hospital Two Point Studios now part of Sega. And I am having more fun than most recent AAA games except of course BG3.

Still, I don't like either Sony or Microsoft as they are focusing more on corporate greed than delighting customers. PC gaming is best of gaming and worth every penny.

PC Gamer score of 58/100 for Hellblade 2??? Is it really worse than Gollum that was 64/100? Microsoft games can't even come close to high scores of Sony exclusives apparently.

About the Microsoft (and Sony) debate, I feel both have become too greedy and losing their minds over corporate greed. Personally, I will never buy any console next gen and switch to PC gaming where democracy reins.
