Refurbished LG Optimus phones in local markets

Whats the deal with the recent resurgence of refurbished/used LG Optimus 9XX phones in the market?

Specswise they look good enough, and a couple of my friends have bought em. Screen quality isnt anything to go crazy about but otherwise (power/performance) it seems good enough. Im also seeing quite a lot of them going up here on PG in very reasonable ranges.

Is there any catch?

Well there is lot of difference btw korean and refurbished one...most of korean has antena some where or there model start with svh or something like that but refurbished are same model as the phone like galaxy note it will be n7000 is the about menu and for korean I might like svh763 or something like this I think

Thing is, Ive seen some good sets and people who've bought em are satisfied thus far. Just that Ive recent lost a used s2 I bought 2 months back so a very cautious now :/

Plz explain how is this garbage ? There are also attached american versions n the market that give very good value for money. 19k for e970 what more to expect from a phone

E970 isnt available for 19k, in the start these sets were not refurbished, were just slightly used company stock lot kind of stuff.

But now refurbished are also coming so beware.

If they aren't refurbished, thrn they are well worth the money IMO

Thats why Im so concerned. And they started out ~19k so not at ALL a bad deal if you ask me. And I dont see very many people go crazy about LG brand so the price complimented in that aspect as well. Even tho its screen is particularly hideous as compared to Samsung/iphone, the speed and other features are amazing.

Im going to the market tomorrow lets see if I can find something useful. If anyone know of any particular shop in Saddar (khi) then let me know.

Cheap "refurbished" LTE i.e. Korean Phones. As usual, not all models are worth considering. Right now due to increased demand, more and more people are bringing in these phones are the risk of a phone being refurbished is like 8 out of 10 times.

You can't identify if a phone is refurbished or not. All phones have their NFC Chip (if they have one) also intact. Usually when it is, shopkeepers tell you without hiding it.

Specswise they look good enough, and a couple of my friends have bought em.

I've bought DOZENS of them ranging from F160K and F160S, F180, F240L (K,S,L - just telecom difference), and Vega 850 and 870 (Iron) etc. Out of FIFTY devices, only ONE had a problem and that too with its WiFi, which i got replaced by Shopkeepers (after some Zalalat ofcourse )

You are not serious are you? I tell you what, have a look at them personally, and THEN come back repeat this to me. The IPS Panel used in F240 (the Optimus E985 International) is one of the best panels out there. Heck even the F180 (E975 International) features a display BRILLIANT ENOUGH, that you DO go crazy.

As said before, Not all models are worth purchasing.

Caution Advised while Purchasing. THROUGHLY CHECK the handset while in the shop.
- Use its WiFi. CONNECT IT with a Network.
- Browse some pages, download some apps. NOTICE how much the battery decreases in 10 minutes. A 10% battery drop in 10% will be FINE. A 15-20% battery drop in 10 minutes, get the battery changed.
- Make some Calls and Send SMS (don't worry about SMS Limit, it can be fixed)
- Check the Physical Build
- Ask for Warranty
- ANY shopkeepers shows Attitude, or Refuses to lend you the handset for use (while in the shop) ... DO NOT communicate with him further and move along. Their refusal should arouse sufficient doubt in your mind.

The only catch about these phones are the batteries.

how do we know if the phone is korean or not?

- They are 4G/LTE Branded on Back Cover.
- They'll have a NFC Chip. (most of them do have it)
- They'll be from either of the THREE Korean Telecom Operators. SK Telecom = "S" models || KT Telecom (Olleh) = "K" models || LG U+ = "L" Models (you can check their logos from Google. Some will also have logos on the back as well as on their boot screen, some won't)

I am curious, how did you lose it? I did mention in one of my PMs to you that its not a wise purchase

You should know that most of these phones are very medicore Battery Timings so if you can adjust yourself to that, ONLY THEN buy these.

Personally, if you have the cash, i'd advise you to go in a direction "which you can handle". Don't risk a heart attack should you lose another handset

Garbage? REALLY? Just because they are Cheap, or don't have a FRUIT logo on their backs, doesn't make them Garbage.

E970 isnt available for 19k

I bought a few for like 17k. Aap logo ko CHOONA lagaya jaa raha hay by selling these handsets at absurd prices. I have literally bought F160 for like 13k (ONLY phone) and a "LG Original" (imported - from Container Maal) for like Rs.250.

You have to be out of your mind to spend 19k on this crap when for around 22k you can get a brand new Moto G that does not come with a 3 year old version of Android.

Fair point. But there are some phones which out-do a MotoG by a fairly large margin.

I was able to get a VEGA 870 for roughy 25k, in a sublime condition (only handset). Or a LG F240 for a tad higher.

If its "brand new" the basis of your point, then yeah you are right on your grounds. But still, it doesn't make them garbage.

What if i tell you that a lot of people are buying them from market for like 16-17k and then selling online for 21-23k?

I am not at all trying to demolish anyone's business here, but spending more than a "reasonable" price for these handsets is ... well, its absurd.

Really a good clean 9.5 e970 for 17k ?? Kahan sent bhai .. The cheapest I found was 19k for a clean piece and 17k with some scratches here and there.

Also please can you tell me how to check the phones with non removable batteries for refurbished .. Like e970 ??

Which imo shouldnt have done anything but it fried its power IC or something now the damn thing wont charge the battery and even if it does, the area besides the camera heats up and I loose all battery power in about 2 hours max. Its been lying dead with me, I have all my contacts in it. Thinking about going back to my good old BB and get a nokia brick for road use...

Was with one of my friends yesterday whos got this LG set and I couldve sworn the LCD quality is going duller and duller. Grays are a lot more visible. One lesson Ive learned from this whole S2 debacle is NOT getting any used set from the market unless its from someone who's been using it infront of your eyes.

And not to ruin any moods, but Ive been spotting a lot of iphones in the market as well in 17-30k ranges. Equally crap as their Android brethren I'm sure.

^^ you must be srious about lg ips lcd ?? I have used amoleds for quite a time but I ve also used f240 and its fhd pannel is just gorgeous man pentile in amoleds are just not going anywhere.

i have used s4 and htc one earlier before getting hands on Optimus G Pro...

Htc one was brilliant device
and G pro is a real deal...amazing display and everything perfect...supreme stuff

Just looking forward for a G Pro 2 as an upgrade...or might be G3

Sorry to hear that. It couldn't have been that S2 was repaired/refurbished which is why this disaster happened. Consider it an unexpected loss and don't let it get to your hread

Which model? I am not sure if the model you saw was even Korean to begin with.

Oh i think i know what you mean by "quality". Chacha, you are coming from a SuperAMOLED display with Blacks so deep that you can't differentiate between the body and screen in a dark room ... so its totally expected to see it from you

Another example of "Once you go SuperAMOLED, there is no turning back" But seriously ... for the price point, even "I" (the SuperAMOLED lover) is ready to settle with those LCDs.

Exactly my point, some of the damn things look so new that you actually cant differentiate if its refurb or not. I have spoted a nexus 4 here is the pic if u can tell this be refurb units ??
