Hello! So I bought my pc 15 days ago (2nd hand), the problem is that when i touch the body of pc, it gives a little shock. Its not that strong as i can successfully remove my hand when i feel it. I want to know what's the cause of this?

I have tried various methods like attaching a wire to the back screw of pc and then connecting to wall for grounding effect, but still i cant touch the body. Called an electrician to see if there was anything wrong with the socked, he said its fine. P.S The earthing in our house is done ( i can see a long pole in the front of my house with a thick wire.. or maybe that's not the earthing im not sure?)

Also is this current harmful for mobo ram etc? My power supply is unfortunately not a good one (Power Man). But if its a problem with it i'll surely change it.

But i cant figure out what the real problem is? Help would be greatly appreciated guys!

if you touch your pc and touch the floor with bare feet, does the shock get stronger? If so, its an earthing problem.

Why its occurring could be many reasons, you might have a bare wire inside touching the case, or the some other component. Either way youll have to ground it properly.

Pls do check your psu power cable as well, if there a 2 pin plug on it then replace the cable with one which has a standard 3 pin plug with 1 pin reserved for grounding.

I haven't checked it like that, but if it was an earthing problem, why didn't it go away when i attached a wire from pc to the wall? Th wire was conducting current but pc still had it.

I brought a 3 pin power cable too, unfortunately it didn't work :/..

Check it like that then :)

Can be many reasons why the wire isnt working. Put one end of the bare wire on the floor and one end on the place where you get shhocck. see if you still get it.

Just take a piece of Carpet and Place it under your PC and feet. So whoever is using the PC, will not touch floor with bare feet. Or simple, use a rubber slippers. This is the easy solution

lol, earth shock isnt lethal. just put a toe if you want. It should tingle.
So
i tried it with bare feet, the thing is i can't hold onto it for 2 seconds. Its not that intense but the tingleing is strong. I could'nt feel any difference with bare feet and when i wore slippers.

I wear rubber slippers, and i still get that shock. And if its a power supply issue, it wont get solved like this..? I haven't figured out what the real problem is..

If you sit on a chair with a cushion, and lift your legs & feet up up so no part of you is touching the ground - and then touch the part, do you still get the shock?

Well figure it out in a minute. dw. What i am trying to figure out with this is if the potential difference is just against a ground or its an actual build up.

Yep, earth issue. Chillax. This is not a problem. Nearly every other house has it. To solve this you need to either properly ground your PC case or simply use a rug or something under your feet.

Check your motherboard.
If the screws are too tight the soldering at the back of the motherboard is touching the metal casing and leaking current.

ahh!! So this earth current is not harmful for my pc components?

it's just an earthing current due to poor grounding of my pc

You can do a few things to remove earth current from your casing:

Connect a wire on a metallic part of the casing, and put the other end of the wire inside the ground (you'll need to nail the ground and connect the wire to that nail). This should completely eliminate grounding. Simply connecting a wire to a wall or ground wouldn't be helpful since the connection is not solid in that case.

Reverse the socket that is attaching into the wall. If you are connecting a 2 pin plug into a 2 pin socket, reversing the plug and then inserting into the socket can solve the issue.

Put a carpet in front of your PC and when you need to tinker with the PC, step on the carpet and then tinker with it.

Use slippers.

Thank you for your tips! :) I'll try them for sure. I wanted to know this too if this earthing current is harmful for my components?

Probably not. But it's better to ground it for personal safety.

If for some reason the 220V wire shorts out and connects to any metallic part of the power supply's casing, then an ungrounded casing will injure/kill you when you reach for the power button to turn it on. A grounded casing on the other hand will cause a large amount of current to flow from the casing to the ground, tripping the house's circuit breaker or rupturing the power supply's fuse. This would indicate that there is something dangerously wrong inside your computer.

Okay, ill be on the safe side.

I tried connecting a wire from back screw of pc to the wall, what happens is when i touch the pc now, the intensity of that tingling sensation is low, but if i hold onto it for 2 seconds, its intensity becoms stronger.

I also reversed the socket as i use a 2 pin plug, but it wasn't of any help.
