[h=1]Blizzard’s giving Overwatch’s Symmetra a second ultimate ability (update)[/h]

[h=2]The support character getting an aggressive overhaul[/h]

In Overwatch, heroes typically only have a single ultimate ability. That’s no longer true of Symmetra, whose moveset Blizzard Entertainment is redesigning in a coming update.
Lead designer Jeff Kaplan detailed the various changes to the character in the latest Overwatch “Developer Update,” which you can watch above. Among these are tweaks to her turrets and weapon, as well as her ultimate abilities.
“Symmetra is going to be the first character in Overwatch to actually have a choice of ultimates,” Kaplan said. When her ultimate is charged, it will light up just as before. Instead of just offering players the chance to trigger her Teleporter move, however, there’s also a shield generator that can be placed to protect the entire team.
Symmetra is also getting an entirely new move: the Photon Barrier. Kaplan compared this to Reinhart and Winston’s projected shields, although Symmetra’s version is an elliptical projectile and moves along a trajectory. It can be used both offensively and defensively, according to Kaplan.

“It's really effective if you're hanging behind your time and they don't have somebody like a Reinhardt,” Kaplan said. “Maybe they have a Roadhog and Zarya as their tanks up front, you can send this projected barrier out in front of you and it sort of signals your whole team to ... follow with it.”
Blizzard is also extending the range of her primary weapon and letting Symmetra players stock up to six turrets at once, changes that will make the support character more aggressive.
“Maybe you didn’t play [Symmetra] before because she wasn’t fun or the skill set wasn’t where you wanted to be,” Kaplan said. If that’s the case, he hopes that players will try out her changes to see if she’s more effective as offense and on Control-style maps than before.

They’ll be available to Windows PC players on Overwatch’sPublic Test Realm sometime soon, as will other new features like Oasis, a new map first shown at BlizzCon 2016. The map is due out for everyone in early 2017.
Update: Symmetra’s redesign is now live on the Public Test Realm, as are a handful of other changes detailed in the patch notes. PC players can check her new ability out now.
We tested Symmetra’s new skills in a livestream earlier today. You can watch the archive below:

[h=1]Overwatch holiday event kicks off Dec. 13[/h]

[h=2]It’s the most wonderful time of the year[/h]

Start hoarding those credits, Overwatch players. Blizzard will apparently launch a wintry, holiday-themed event for the competitive hero shooter next week, based on a tweet from the official Overwatch Twitter account.
Admittedly, there’s not much to go on. Blizzard merely tweeted out a brief video of a holiday card today with an invitation to a snowy version of Overwatch’s King’s Row map. The card reads:
It's the most wonderful time of the year, and we hope you'll join us for some holiday cheer.
When: December 13, 2016
Where: Overwatch
RT to RSVP!
You're invited! pic.twitter.com/MQZPZOW4Y1
— Overwatch (@PlayOverwatch) December 6, 2016
The upcoming holiday promotion will be Overwatch’s third limited-time special event, after Blizzard’s Olympics-themed Summer Games and Halloween Terror events. Those two events featured a limited-time game mode in addition to a long list of new cosmetic items (costumes, emotes, sprays, voice lines and more).

Overwatch’s third competitive season kicked off earlier this month. Blizzard also plans to roll out a new map, Oasis, as well as major gameplay changes to support character Symmetra in an upcoming patch

[h=1]Blizzard helps Overwatch player who lost thousands of credits and special items[/h]

[h=2]Support has arrived![/h]

Overwatch player Kaleptik ran into a strange problem.
After downloading Overwatch’s Eichenwalde update, he found that his in-game currency dipped into negative figures. At its absolute worst, Kaleptik had a terrifying -42,535 credits.
That debt came as a tragic discovery after he managed to unlock every item during the Summer Games event, both by earning a ton of loot boxes and buying 300 of them. Not only did he find himself in debt hell, but a mysterious set of 100 loot boxes began to sporadically appear and disappear in his account.
“I found it a little strange because I didn't buy any more loot boxes but there were 100 loot boxes in my account,” Kaleptik said on Reddit. “Not only did I have 100 loot boxes magically appear, I had my first issue with negative currency.

“I didn't open the 100 loot boxes and didn't even play the game for a couple days due to the fact that the ~5k currency I had turned into -1,815 currency.”
As Kaleptik continued to play, loot boxes appeared and disappeared, and his credit deficit grew. On Sept. 13, he said, “shit went down.”
“This is the point where items that I had bought/earned re-locked,” he said. “Over half of the player icons from the event were locked and many skins and voice lines were locked.

“Not only that, but my In-Game currency had dipped to a whopping -42,535.”
He recounted this bizarre story in the Overwatch subreddit, where he also posted a chat log with someone from Blizzard’s support team.
Luckily, a Blizzard employee saw the post on Reddit and offered to personally look into the issue. In just over two weeks, he and a member of the Overwatch team found the root of the problem; it turns out that issues with PayPal and Microsoft servers were the real culprits. Kaleptik explains:
As it turns out, PayPal had silently issued a charge back, but then reversed the charge back immediately afterwards.
This was an issue on ALL the loot boxes I purchased throughout my time in Overwatch.
Microsoft servers detected a charge back, however, it did not detect the reversal. Microsoft CS couldn't see the charge backs because after the reversal, technically, there weren't any.
In the end, Kaleptik was credited 500 loot boxes (100 regular and 400 Summer Games), along with every single Summer Games item that he lost. Good on you, Blizzard!

[h=1]Overwatch’s new map, Oasis, available now[/h]

[h=2]Watch out for traffic![/h]

[NOW AVAILABLE] Oasis | New Map Preview | Overwatch - YouTube

A new map is now available for all Overwatch players. Oasis, which has been in Overwatch’s public test realm on Windows PC for more than a month, was officially released today on PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One as part of a game update.
Oasis is a Control map set in a city in the Arabian Desert. The map features three unique control points, Blizzard says, as well as jump pads and some very hazardous traffic. You can see a preview of Oasis in the video above.
Here’s Blizzard’s official description of Oasis:
Researchers and academics from around the region came together to found a city dedicated to scientific progress without restraints — a monument to human ingenuity and invention. The city and its inhabitants are governed by the Ministries, a collection of brilliant minds who possess many secrets that have attracted the interest of powerful organizations from around the world.
In addition to new maps, Blizzard says it’s also working on new heroes and new ways for players to find custom games in Overwatch.

[h=1]Terry Crews is asking Overwatch fans to get him in the game[/h]

[h=2]Is anyone else a better fit for Doomfist? Didn’t think so[/h]

Terry Crews and Overwatch players have one really big thing in common: They both want the wrestler-turned-actor to make a starring turn in Blizzard Entertainment’s popular multiplayer hero shooter. Months after fans first expressed interest in getting Crews to voice Doomfist, a character many fans hope to see become playable in-game, he’s now using social media to unofficially campaign for the role.
Crews posted a speculative article about his connection to Overwatch on his Facebook and Twitter accounts today. Attached to the link was a message: “Who wants to hear me do the voice of Doomfist for real??”
The answer is “almost everybody.” The posts have generated thousands of likes and positive replies. The top-voted string of Reddit comments about Crews’ plea looks like this:

Other comments of approval include “[Terry Crews] voicing Doomfist would be second only to Blizzard putting him in the game as himself.” The beloved actor is just as well-loved by comedy and action fans as Overwatch players, it turns out.

These Overwatch and Crews fans were the ones who first suggested that he would make a perfect fit for the generational hero, who’s been hinted at throughout Overwatch’s lore but has yet to physically appear in the game.
In November, Crews replied to a Reddit thread about the potential of him voicing Doomfist to say he’d “LOVE TO PLAY DOOMFIST.” His visit to the Blizzard Entertainment studios in December led fans to wonder if Crews actually would be playing an Overwatch character, and sooner than they may have thought.
While most would love to hear the actor in the game, others are wondering whether or not Crews is trying to falsely generate excitement for a character that Blizzard has never said will join the roster of playable heroes.

“I doubt he would ask this if he isn't already the voice actor,” said one Reddit user. “He's just doing it for hype probably.”
“What does this mean?” asked another. “Blizz hasn't accepted his offer, or he's just trying to generate hype?”

Others still are asking simply, “Who is Doomfist?” Perhaps unknown to those who aren’t versed in Overwatch history, Doomfist is a name passed between those who wield a mighty gauntlet. There have been three previous “Doomfist” heroes in the world of Overwatch, whom were defeated by playable heroes like Winston and Tracer. The Numbani map contains an exhibit about the hero and his weapon, while it’s said that there’s still someone bearing the Doomfist title out there, lying in wait.
We’ve seen some hints about Doomfist outside of the game, too. Most recently, fans noticed the gauntlet in Sombra’s reveal trailer. Coupled with comments from former Blizzard exec Chris Metzen, who told PC Gamer in 2015 that the heavily theorized character may one day become playable, many are convinced that Doomfist is coming to the game sometime in the future.
We know that there are playable characters in the early prototyping phase right now, although Blizzard said that it always has more content in the works than it knows what to do with. Players uninterested in speculation can turn their attention toward the new Oasis map in the meantime.

[h=1]Overwatch Chinese New Year event skins, details leak out early[/h]

[h=2]Happy Year of the Rooster, y’all[/h]

A trailer for Overwatch’s next seasonal event based on the upcoming Chinese New Year, has made its way online. A member of the Chinese social network Weibo uploaded a low-res version of a teaser for the Year of the Rooster promotion, which is set for Jan. 24.

The trailer, which is an advertisement for the Chinese market, is grainy, but it gives fans a quick look at costumes for a variety of heroes. Symmetra is decked out in a red-and-gold dress, appropriate for the holiday. Roadhog, Reinhardt, Winston and Zenyatta resemble characters from the classic Chinese story Journey to the West, which boasts a cast full of animals that are also featured in the Zodiac.
The quartet’s skins are seen more clearly in another ad that made it online ahead of the trailer. A poster showing the four in their Chinese New Year outfits and advertising an Overwatch-related promotion from Chinese ticketing service Gemara also appeared on forums late last week. The ad purportedly offers an Overwatch game from Jan. 24-31.
Journey to the West-inspired skins. Fans are also noticing from the trailer that it looks like a “Capture the Flag” mode could finally be coming to Overwatch with this season event. Tracer is seen guarding a flag toward the video’s end. This would mark that particular event’s first appearance in Overwatch, if that’s the case.
Strangely, the trailer suggests a start date of Jan. 31, although Chinese fans say that the ad is offering a discount on the game for local players from Jan. 31-Feb. 6. Chinese New Year begins Jan. 28, and Blizzard has previously announced a Jan. 24 kickoff, at least stateside. We’ve reached out to Blizzard about the video in the meantime and for clarification and will update accordingly.

[h=1]Overwatch now has 25 million players[/h]

[h=2]Heroes never die, especially when there’s this many of them[/h]

Overwatch now has more than 25 million players, Blizzard Entertainment announced on Twitter. That’s up five million from October, when the publisher celebrated the game having 20 million players.
In the time it took Overwatch to gain 25 million players, the game saw a deluge of updates, achievements and new content. Among the highlights from the last few months of Overwatch:

Overwatch also received numerous year-end accolades, including from Polygon. We named the game our third-favorite of 2016, writing, “It might seem intimidating at first because of its popularity and ever-growing pro community, but Overwatch is perhaps Blizzard’s most accessible online multiplayer game to date. There’s no level grinding, no upgrades for weapons, armor or even abilities. You only get one set of tools with each character — from there, it’s up to you how to master them.”
That’s what has kept the fanbase growing steadily over the last eight months or so. Overwatch launched back in May 2016, but it already feels like Blizzard Entertainment’s latest hit has been around for far, far longer.

[h=1]Blizzard bans thousands of Korean Overwatch hackers[/h]

[h=2]Taking a hard line on a huge, long-running problem[/h]

More than 20,000 Overwatch players have been banned in South Korea, a representative for Blizzard Entertainment announced on the game’s forum. The reason for the bans is “unauthorized use of third-party programs,” otherwise known as illegal hacks.
This has been an ongoing issue for Korean players, who have repeatedly reported cheaters in the past to no avail. In South Korea’s popular internet cafes, or “PC bangs,” it’s common for Overwatch players who just want a fair fight to find themselves on the other end of a DDoS attack, among other hacks used by competitors. Since the computers in these public locations completely refresh after a reboot, it’s easy for players to come in, install a hacking program and escape unscathed; they can then return the next day and repeat the process.
A recent report on Kotaku details the hacking epidemic, which has run rampant in South Korean PC bangs since the game’s launch. It’s become especially bad in recent months, however, as noted repeatedly on places like Reddit.
Blizzard’s South Korean outpost has been criticized for not taking enough action to curtail cheaters in the country. (We’ve also reached out to Blizzard for comment about the issue in the past and received none.) A translation of the Battle.net announcement of the bans indicates that the company is listening to feedback.

“Creating and delivering a pleasant game environment for the majority of good players is of paramount importance to us and we are committed to taking all the steps we can take to create, distribute and use our programs,” writes Harry, a member of the Korean Blizzard team. “We are also aware of the fact that our programs are circulated through various communities, and we will prepare countermeasures.
“We also listen carefully to specific opinions (account, IP, etc.) and feedback from diverse communities, and we are conducting research based on your feedback,” the post continues. “We are also discussing various ways with our head office to solve fundamental problems.”
How the company plans to do this remains unclear, considering the nature of playing Overwatch in PC bangs. Banning players by the thousands is a big start, however.

[h=1]Blizzard doesn’t want Overwatch console players using mouse-keyboard setups[/h]

[h=2]Keyboards for all, or keyboards for none[/h]

Director Jeff Kaplan has a message for Overwatchplayers on console who use a mouse and keyboard as their controller of choice: Don’t do it. In a post on the Battle.net forum, he spoke on behalf of Blizzard Entertainment to explain why the developer “objects” to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One owners going out of their to use mice and keyboards.
“The Overwatch team objects to the use of mouse and keyboard on console,” Kaplan wrote. “We have contacted both first-party console manufacturers and expressed our concern about the use of mouse and keyboard and input conversion devices.”
Neither the PS4 nor Xbox One natively support mouse-and-keyboard setups. That means people who want to use them go out of their way to buy convertors to hook them up to their consoles.
As Overwatch players on PC know, using a mouse allows for much more precise aiming than a control stick does. Since not everyone has access to a mouse on console because of the lack of native support, it creates an unfair advantage for those who cough up the bucks for a convertor.

The controller dichotomy on consoles has generated some controversy in the Overwatch community in the past. Last June, Blizzard released a patch to weaken Torbjorn, a character who gained particular popularity on console. The reason for this was that he was one of the few heroes who didn’t require good aim to deal massive damage; his turrets did all the work.
Nerfing Torbjorn was an important step toward keeping the console game balanced just as well as the PC version, but the larger issue remains gamepads’ more imprecise aiming.
“To make precise movements, you need to move your stick a ridiculously small amount,” a user explained in a popular Battle.net thread last September, calling out the development team for not addressing the aiming issue. “If you move it [20 percent], which is not much at all, you're already at half or more of your maximum sensitivity. This leaves you with an incredibly small range to make precise movements. This is the main reason that aiming on consoles feels clunky, odd, and imprecise.”

Aiming remains a sticking point for Overwatch fans who prefer consoles to PC. For their part, the folks at Blizzard said they’ll change their tune about keyboards if console makers ever introduce support for them out of the box.
“I encourage you to reach out to the hardware manufacturers and express your concerns (but please do so in a productive and respectful way),” Kaplan said.

Big changes for Overwatch’s Bastion are here

Boops now boopier, but dweets have been doo-dooted

A new update for Overwatch is now available in the game’s public test region on PC and with it comes promised buffs to one of the game’s most contentious heroes, Bastion. Those balance changes, which could evolve as Blizzard tests them in the PTR, are substantial.
“The goal of these changes is to move some of Bastion's power from Configuration: Sentry to Recon, while keeping its sentry mode a strong option, especially versus tanks and barriers,” Blizzard said in patch notes posted to the official Overwatch website. “Overall, Bastion should feel stronger and more flexible with these changes.”
Many of the changes affect Bastion’s turret-like Sentry configuration, which now grants him additional armor and requires less time to transform into. That’s balanced by a larger bullet spread and the removal of critical damage and headshot damage.
When walking around in his Recon configuration, Bastion will have a larger magazine and less bullet spread than he did before. Bastion’s self-repair skill now appears to be ... useful.

Here are the changes to Bastion in the PTR, which Blizzard hinted at last week:
Configuration: Sentry
Deploy time decreased from 1.5 seconds to 1.0 second
Bullet spread increased by 50 percent
Bullet spread is always at maximum (it no longer increases as the weapon is fired)
Magazine size increased from 200 to 300
Headshot damage multiplier has been removed
No longer deals critical damage
Configuration: Recon
Bullet spread decreased by 25 percent
Magazine size increased from 20 to 25
Configuration: Tank
No longer grants bonus armor
Self-Repair
Can now be used while moving
Now bound to secondary fire (formerly Ability 2)
No longer interrupted by taking damage
A new resource meter has been added that deplete while Self-Repair is active and recharges when not in use
New passive: Ironclad
Bastion takes 35% less damage while in Sentry or Tank configuration
The latest version of Overwatch on the PTR also has an important buff for Mercy:

While performing a resurrection, Mercy now becomes temporarily invulnerable along with the allies being revived
The patch also has some additional tweaks, including the option to adjust sensitivity for a number of heroes’ abilities. It also introduces the server browser and additions to Overwatch’s custom game types. Check out the full patch notes here.

[h=1]Overwatch’s newest hero, Orisa, is playable right now[/h]

[h=2]Get on the PTR![/h]

Blizzard Entertainment introduced the 24th hero for Overwatch today: Orisa, an omnic who is now playable on the public test realm.
Windows PC players can update the PTR right now to check out the character, who was teased by the developer just last week. Orisa is a “mechanical peacekeeper” from the land of Numbani, according to the game’s website.
Eleven-year-old prodigy Efi Oladele developed Orisa following the Omnic Crisis, an event that greatly shaped Overwatch’s lore. Fans correctly predicted that Efi, who was introduced into the canon earlier this month, would have a hand in crafting the robotic hero. Alongside her PTR debut, Blizzard Entertainment premiered an animated retelling of Orisa’s origin story, showing her strong connection to the young Efi.

When it comes to gameplay, Orisa is a tank whose primary ability is providing barriers to shield her side from opposing attacks. Her ultimate is the Supercharger, which buffs the damage her surrounding allies do; the majority of her moves are on the defensive side.

A developer update from director Jeff Kaplan, up top, goes into further detail about everything players need to know about Orisa, from her skill set to her backstory. Kaplan also detailed how other heroes will be adjusted to maintain the balance when going up against Orisa and other heavily defensive heroes.
Although Orisa isn’t yet available on the console version of the game, this makes a much quicker turnaround from reveal to in-game introduction than Overwatch’s 23rd hero. Sombra arrived in Overwatch in November, after months and months and more months of speculation.

[h=1]Overwatch’s new hero Orisa goes live on consoles and PC next week[/h]
[h=2]Take Overwatch’s new tank for a spin on March 21[/h]

Orisa, the new Overwatch hero that’s been in testing on Windows PC for the past two weeks, will be live and playable in all versions of the game starting on Tuesday, March 21, Blizzard Entertainment announced today.
Blizzard also released a new behind-the-scenes look at Overwatch’s 24th hero today, which you can watch in the video above. Blizzard dives into the origin and design philosophy of the character, and talks about her earliest iterations. Orisa is the third post-release character to join Overwatch after Ana and Sombra.
Orisa is the creation of an 11-year-old robotics engineering prodigy, Efi Oladele. Designed as a peacekeeping robot, Orisa is technically the game’s youngest hero. Blizzard describes her role as “the central anchor of her team” who can protect her teammates with a barrier, launch graviton charges to slow enemies and supercharge her allies to bolster their damage.
For a look at Orisa’s skins and other cosmetic unlocks,

Overwatch surpasses 30 million players

That’s a lot of play(er)s of the game

Overwatch’s base of registered players has swelled past the 30 million mark, developer Blizzard Entertainment announced today.

More than 30 million players have charged into Overwatch!

Thanks for grouping up with us, heroes. We couldn't ask for a better team.
10:00 PM - 28 Apr 2017

Blizzard launched Overwatch on PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One in late May, about 11 months ago. The game’s player base has been growing at a nearly linear rate since then, when
more than 7 million people played Overwatch during its first week of release.
In August, Blizzard reported
15 million players, and in October, less than five months after launch, the figure had reached 20 million. By late January, more than 25 million peoplehad tried Overwatch. On average, nearly 2.2 million players have been joining the ranks every month.
These figures refer to Overwatch’s overall player base, but there’s a chance the game has a particularly high number of active users right now — its latest seasonal event, Uprising,
went live earlier this month and is scheduled to end on May 2. The event is highlighted by a titular cooperative brawl mode that is new to Overwatch. Of course, there are also plenty of new skins, emotes, highlight intros, sprays and more.

[h=1]Overwatch is already a billion-dollar game[/h]

[h=2]Look out, world![/h]

verwatch, the multiplayer first-person shooter from Blizzard Entertainment, has now made more than $1 billion, parent company Activision Blizzard announced today.
The total represents revenue from sales of the game as well as microtransactions like loot boxes. Blizzard announced last week that Overwatch has more than 30 million registered players, and it “continues to be Blizzard’s fastest growing new franchise,” Activision Blizzard announced today in its earnings report for the first quarter of 2017.
Overwatch is the eighth billion-dollar title in Activision Blizzard’s portfolio, joining long-running franchises like Call of Duty, Guitar Hero and World of Warcraft. Blizzard’s shooter reached that milestone rather quickly, managing to do so less than a year after its debut in late May 2016. Overwatch’s popularity helped drive Blizzard to its best quarter ever with regard to online engagement, with 41 million monthly active users across all games — up 58 percent year-over-year.
As for the Overwatch League, Blizzard’s esports organization for the game, studio head Mike Morhaime said during a conference call today that the company is on track to kick off competition later this year.

Blizzard has the Midas touch. Since CoD4, this is the first time i have stuck around with a shooter for this long. Usually i just stop playing em after 100-120 hours cuz they get boring even with new content.
