does any one here read agatha christie?
Read two of her books from college library, can't remember their names though.
One was about a murder mystery on a train (a film was made about it in 70s) and the other was set in Middle East (a book in which everybody ends up marrying each other:lol:)

I think her books are lulz, if not annoying and overrated. Seems to have a high opinion of herself because she opines about other people's social values and cultures when it is apparent she doesn't know shit about them. Also, the mystery elements due to which she's famous aren't any better. I knew who the culprit was some 10 minutes before it was revealed in that middle east book:8. All of Sherlock Holmes stories I've read along with the third Harry Potter book (Prisoner of Azkaban, the best in that series) did a better job at a surprising and twist ending.

Overall, I think she's overrated.

The train book you're referring to is Murder on the Orient Express, the movie was made in 1974 directed by Sidney Lumet.

And I disagree with you- respectfully, ofcourse, Agatha Christie is a very good author. I have read 7 or 8 of her novels and have enjoyed every single one of them.

Also the bit about Harry Potter's Prisoner of Azkaban being best, I also differ-respectfully. I think the best in Harry Potter series is Deathly Hallows, then Goblet of Fire and then Prisoner of Azkaban.

But this is just....like....my opinion.

I agree on the annoying bit but the mystery overall is mind boggling, well most of the time.
I bet u didn`t know who the culprit was or
Spoiler: show
were
on the blue train did u? :D

And Holmes wasn`t successful always. Murders which were to be avoided used to occur while he was on the way . And sometimes the real culprit was never caught :p.
But i still love Holmes books. They`re really good but Poirot beats him most of the time :p

The Goblet Of Fire was EPIC. Easily her best book.(y)
Infact the HP books are my most favourite, but GoF onwards started to be a bit strange not that they were bad in any way. Maybe they were written in an altogether different style

The first one was the building block, true. It was good, also true. But later parts had matured writing style and more suspense elements.

The adult style.... that was:lol:.

The first Deathly Hallows I bought on 22.07.2007 was a fake as it later turned out.
The real Deathly Hallows (bought it earlier this year) was so bad, I was starting to think I'd bought another fake one.

For me, third's the best followed by the sixth followed by the fourth.
Fifth was the worst followed by second. 1st was OK.

Just read A Time to Kill by John Grisham. Very nice novel. Its a courtroom drama and I am an avid fan of courtroom dramas so I liked this novel very much.

Hey, anyone recommend me some good novels. I like to read Detective novels (Agatha Christie, I read) but I havent read Sherlock Holmes Novels. Should I read them? Any advice?

And I like legal fiction , like the ones John Grisham writes. I have read his The Firm, The Associate and A Time to Kill. Which others should I read? Recommend me some.

Thanks.

Yeah go ahead with the Holmes ones. But begin from the first one, u`ll get to know how it all starts for those two (Holmes and Watson). U won`t find much humour in those books unlike A. Christie`s but the books and short stories r great.
And do remember to read "The Hound of Baskervilles". It`s considered a Holmes classic

(a little late to the party but...)

Prisoner of Azkaban is easily the best Harry Potter book, followed by Chamber of Secrets and Goblet of Fire. After that the series became too contrived and inconsitent for me to work. There was just too much serious business...that I couldn't take seriously at all.

I've experienced another stroke of Halo-phobia and have therefore read the first four Halo books in a week. That's my first ebook experience as I couldn't find them in any bookshop here.

Halo Fall of Reach: (Eric Nylund) Good book, could've been better though. It seemed kinda rushed, the SPARTAN-II Project origin's story is fine. I've always been a fan of MC, Captain Keyes and Cortana and Dr. Halsey is a new addition to this list.

Halo The Flood: (William C. Dietz) I've mixed opinions about this, its essentially a retelling of first game with another substory. Because I know the first and second games upside down, there was no surprise in it for me. Dietz's writing style in totally inferior to Nylund's, its a wasted opportunity.

Halo The First Strike: (Eric Nylund) The best book, perhaps my favourite fiction book after HP3. The scale of the story and action scenes is huge. It also features what could probably be the biggest rescue mission ever in a fiction book, Contana, Dr. Halsey and Whitcomb are all brilliant characters. Must read, 9/10.

Halo Ghosts of Onyx: (Eric Nylund) Not as good as the third because there's no MC and Cortana (MC only cameos in the beginning) but still it comes close. The ending is somewhat ambiguous and therefore, disappointing but overall its another good chapter in Halo saga.

My eyes are hurting real bad.

Tom Clancy`s Bio-Strike: Book was pretty good against my expectations. This was my first Tom Clancy book and i`m mightily impressed by it. It had a nice balance of dialogue, action, conspiracy etc. Plot was decent and overall the story was very well written

Digital Fortress: I`m amazed.............at the stupidity of the americans. The world`s greatest minds couldn`t break a lol code? :p
Lying in bed at 5a.m i broke most of the codes in the book :8
Well anyway now back to the book. MOST of it was like every other Dan Brown book, a seesawing storyline. Well written and had its fair share of action. But unlike the others, this was way too much predictable.
Brown`s endings are usually a shock for the readers but this was on the cards. Nothing surprising really
